Download or read book Advances In Chinese Document And Text Processing written by Cheng-lin Liu and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2017-03-14 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is a collection of invited chapters by experts in Chinese document and text processing, and is part of a series on Language Processing, Pattern Recognition, and Intelligent Systems. The chapters introduce the latest advances and state-of-the-art methods for Chinese document image analysis and recognition, font design, text analysis and speaker recognition. Handwritten Chinese character recognition and text line recognition are at the core of document image analysis (DIA), and therefore, are addressed in four chapters for different scripts (online characters, offline characters, ancient characters, and text lines). Two chapters on character recognition pay much attention to deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs), which are widely used and performing superiorly in various pattern recognition problems. A chapter is contributed to describe a large handwriting database consisting both online and offline characters and text pages. Postal mail reading and writer identification, addressed in two chapters, are important applications of DIA. The collection can serve as reference for students and engineers in Chinese document and text processing and their applications.

Download or read book Invariants for Pattern Recognition and Classification written by Marcos A. Rodrigues and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was conceived from the realization that there was a need to update recent work on invariants in a single volume providing a useful set of references and pointers to related work. Since the publication in 1992 of J.L. Mundy and A. Zisserman's Geometric Invariance in Computer Vision, the subject has been evolving rapidly. New approaches to invariants have been proposed and novel ways of defining and applying invariants to practical problem solving are testimony to the fundamental importance of the study of invariants to machine vision. This book represents a snapshot of current research around the world. A version of this collection of papers has appeared in the International Journal of Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence (December 1999). The papers in this book are extended versions of the original material published in the journal. They are organized into two categories: foundations and applications. Foundation papers present new ways of defining or analyzing invariants, and application papers present novel ways in which known invariant theory is extended and effectively applied to real-world problems in interesting and difficult contexts. Each category contains roughly half of the papers, but there is considerable overlap. All papers carry an element of novelty and generalization that will be useful to theoreticians and practitioners alike. It is hoped that this volume will be not only useful but also inspirational to researchers in image processing, pattern recognition and computer vision at large.
Download or read book Texture Analysis In Machine Vision written by Matti K Pietikainen and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000-10-13 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Texture analysis is an important generic research area of machine vision. The potential areas of application include biomedical image analysis, industrial inspection, analysis of satellite or aerial imagery, content-based retrieval from image databases, document analysis, biometric person authentication, scene analysis for robot navigation, texture synthesis for computer graphics and animation, and image coding. Texture analysis has been a topic of intensive research for over three decades, but the progress has been very slow.A workshop on “Texture Analysis in Machine Vision” was held at the University of Oulu, Finland, in 1999, providing a forum for presenting recent research results and for discussing how to make progress in order to increase the usefulness of texture in practical applications. This book contains extended and revised versions of the papers presented at the workshop. The first part of the book deals with texture analysis methodology, while the second part covers various applications. The book gives a unique view of different approaches and applications of texture analysis. It should be of great interest both to researchers of machine vision and to practitioners in various application areas.

Download or read book New Approaches To Fuzzy Modeling And Control Design And Analysis written by Gideon Langholz and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000-07-04 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fuzzy logic has found applications in an incredibly wide range of areas in the relatively short time since its conception. It was invented by Lotfi Zadeh, a leading systems expert, so it is perhaps not surprising that system theory is one of the areas in which fuzzy logic has made a profound impact. Fuzzy logic combined with the paradigm of computing with words allows the use and manipulation of human knowledge and reasoning in the modeling and control of dynamical systems. This monograph presents new approaches to the construction of fuzzy models and to the design of fuzzy controllers. The emphasis is on developing methods that allow systematic design on the one hand and mathematical analysis of the resulting system on the other. In particular, the methods described allow rigorous analysis of the stability and robustness of the systems, which are crucial issues in control theory. The first theme of the book is a new approach to the systematic design and analysis of fuzzy controllers, given linguistic information concerning the plant and the control objective. The new approach, fuzzy Lyapunov synthesis, is a computing with words version of the well-known (classical) Lyapunov synthesis method. The second theme of the book is to show that fuzzy controllers are in fact solutions of a nonlinear optimal control problem. The authors formulate a novel nonlinear optimal control problem, consisting of a new state-space model — referred to as the hyperbolic state-space model — and a new cost functional, and show that its solution is a fuzzy controller. This leads to a new framework for fuzzy modeling and control that combines the advantages of the fuzzy world, such as linguistic interpretability, and of classical optimal control theory, such as guaranteed stability and robustness.
Download or read book Multimodal Interface for Human machine Communication written by P. C. Yuen and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2002 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the advance of speech, image and video technology, human-computer interaction (HCI) will reach a new phase. In recent years, HCI has been extended to human-machine communication (HMC) and the perceptual user interface (PUI). The final goal in HMC is that the communication between humans and machines is similar to human-to-human communication. Moreover, the machine can support human-to-human communication (e.g. an interface for the disabled). For this reason, various aspects of human communication are to be considered in HMC. The HMC interface, called a multimodal interface, includes different types of input methods, such as natural language, gestures, face and handwriting characters. The nine papers in this book have been selected from the 92 high-quality papers constituting the proceedings of the 2nd International Conference on Multimodal Interface (ICMI '99), which was held in Hong Kong in 1999. The papers cover a wide spectrum of the multimodal interface.
