Book Bioelectric and Biomagnetic Fields

Download or read book Bioelectric and Biomagnetic Fields written by Leonid I. Titomir and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1994-06-27 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bioelectric and Biomagnetic Fields: Theory and Applications in Electrocardiology begins with a general description of the development of extracellular bioelectric and biomagnetic fields and the methods used in their analysis and measurement. The most effective electrodynamic models and most modern approaches to topographical (synchronous multilead) measurements of the field are reviewed. The next section discusses the major approaches to analysis of the inverse problem with a detailed description of multipole technique applied to the bioelectric and biomagnetic fields measured on or near the body surface. Special emphasis is placed on the interrelationship between the electric and magnetic fields of the same bioelectric generator. The last section explains the new approaches to chronotopographical representation of the electrophysiological characteristics deduced from the parameters of the bioelectric generator. The text includes the most recent experimental protocols and results from studies in electro- and magnetocardiology and electro- and magnetoneurology.

Book Advances in Biomedical Measurement

Download or read book Advances in Biomedical Measurement written by E.R. Carson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current scientific and technical literature in the fields of medi cine and engineering, in addition to learned society journals, embraces textbooks, monographs and conference proceedings. The last of these cate gories is potentially of prime importance given the increasing pace at which knowledge is advancing. However, traditional conference proceedings often tend to be indigestable, both due to their excessive volume and to the un evenness of the ingredients. Here we have attempted to overcome these deficiencies by selecting a set of contributions which, in our opinion, in the best sense convey the flavour of the 4th IMEKO Conference on "Advances in Biomedical Measurement". This meeting, which took place in Bratislava in May, 1987, was held concurrently with the 1st Regional Conference of the Socialist European Countries on Biomedical Engineering and the 2nd Czecho slovak Conference on Biomedical Engineering. From more than 200 papers presented in 14 sessions, 56 contributions have been selected to represent four major areas within which advances in biomedical measurement are occurring. These are: measurement and instru mentation (including prosthetics); signal and image processing; modelling and simulation; and decision support. The process of deciding which authors should be invited to contribute to this volume was not always easy. What we have tried to do is to achieve a mix which provides an overview of the state of the art across this broad spectrum of endeavour.

Book Medical engineering in Japan

Download or read book Medical engineering in Japan written by K. Atsumi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The complete volume 12 of Medical Progress through Technology is devoted to the work of colleagues in Japan. Additionally, whole authority and responsibility both for the election of topics and for the reviewing procedure had been delegated to Guest Editors from Japan. What are the objectives of this special issue and why has Japan been elected to present itself in this way? International journals such as Medical Progress through Technology usually contain papers from authors all over the world. Such issues provide a rather comprehensive survey on different scientific projects but do not reflect the standard and extent of medical technology in a certain country. I think that issues like the present one give far better information on the actual state of research and development in a country than an irregular sequence of scientific reports. It is not intended that all future issues of Medical Progress through Technology will concern only national issues. The present issue is an exception. However, if the readers appreciate such an approach, then other national issues may be published. There are several reasons in favor of Japan preparing the first national issues. We all admire the history, tradition and culture of this country, but we are also impressed by the high standard of research, develop ment and technical realisation achieved in nearly all high technology fields. There is no doubt, that Japan is among the leading nations in the field of medical technology.

Book Advances in Processing and Pattern Analysis of Biological Signals

Download or read book Advances in Processing and Pattern Analysis of Biological Signals written by I. Gath and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years there has been rapid progress in the development of signal processing in general, and more specifically in the application of signal processing and pattern analysis to biological signals. Techniques, such as parametric and nonparametric spectral estimation, higher order spectral estimation, time-frequency methods, wavelet transform, and identifi cation of nonlinear systems using chaos theory, have been successfully used to elucidate basic mechanisms of physiological and mental processes. Similarly, biological signals recorded during daily medical practice for clinical diagnostic procedures, such as electroen cephalograms (EEG), evoked potentials (EP), electromyograms (EMG) and electrocardio grams (ECG), have greatly benefitted from advances in signal processing. In order to update researchers, graduate students, and clinicians, on the latest developments in the field, an International Symposium on Processing and Pattern Analysis of Biological Signals was held at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, during March 1995. This book contains 27 papers delivered during the symposium. The book follows the five sessions of the symposium. The first section, Processing and Pattern Analysis of Normal and Pathological EEG, accounts for some of the latest developments in the area of EEG processing, namely: time varying parametric modeling; non-linear dynamic modeling of the EEG using chaos theory; Markov analysis; delay estimation using adaptive least-squares filtering; and applications to the analysis of epileptic EEG, EEG recorded from psychiatric patients, and sleep EEG.
