Considerable chapters are devoted to the analysis and detection of various organic group compounds, including derivatives of acetals, acetates, acids, acid halides, ethers, amines, amino acids, anilides, barbiturates, benzamides, esters, and hydrocarbons. Other chapters cover other group compounds, such as derivatives of oxalates, oximes, peroxides, phenyl, semicarbazones, silicones, sulfur, toluidides, tri-halo acids, and alcohols. The closing chapters describe the identification techniques and instrumentation of pollutant detection. These chapters highlight the utilization of GC/LC data in physic-chemical measurements of various organic pollutants. This book will prove useful to analytical and organic chemists, environmental scientists, and researchers.

Book Modern Fluorescence Spectroscopy

Download or read book Modern Fluorescence Spectroscopy written by E. L. Wehry and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the appearance of the first two volumes of Modern Fluorescence Spectroscopy in 1976, important advances continue to be made in both the techniques and applications of molecular luminescence. In terms of "hardware," it is only recently that the application of laser excitation to molecular fluorometry has become feasible under conditions that are analy tically realistic. The improvements that can be effected in sensitivity, analy tical selectivity, and ability to handle "difficult" samples by laser fluorometry have only begun to be exploited. Likewise, time-resolved fluorometry has received widespread use in fundamental studies (a sizable number of which deal with biological systems), but has as of yet received relatively little analytical utilization. The use of electronic array detectors offers the promise of obtaining luminescence spectra more rapidly, and perhaps ultimately with greater sensitivity, than is possible by the use of scanning instruments equipped with conventional detectors. The increasing capabilities of microcomputers and the increasing sophistication of "smart" spectroscopic instrumentation signify that much more efficient acquisition and use can now be achieved of the information contained in the "excitation-emission matrix" inherent in the luminescence phenomenon.

Book Enzymatic Methods of Analysis

Download or read book Enzymatic Methods of Analysis written by George G. Guilbault and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enzymatic Methods of Analysis attempts to cover all the aspects of modern enzymatic analysis. Enzymes possess a great potential usefulness in analytical chemistry. The specificity of enzymes can solve the primary problem of most analytical chemists—the analysis of one substance in the presence of many similar compounds that interfere in the analysis. The book begins with two introductory chapters devoted to general considerations of enzymes as reagents and methods of analysis of enzymatic reactions. The next four chapters deal with methods for the assay of specific enzymes, and substrate, activator, and inhibitor analysis using enzymes. In the last two chapters the immobilization of enzymes and the automation of enzymatic reactions are discussed. In addition, a listing of all commercially available enzymes is given in an appendix. It is hoped that the information presented will prove interesting and stimulating to all individuals engaged in research and development.
