Book Advanced Signature Indexing for Multimedia and Web Applications

Download or read book Advanced Signature Indexing for Multimedia and Web Applications written by Yannis Manolopoulos and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-09-08 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced Signature Indexing for Multimedia and Web Applications presents the latest research developments in signature-based indexing and query processing, specifically in multimedia and Web domains. These domains now demand a different designation of hashing information in bit-strings (i.e., signatures), and new indexes and query processing methods. The book provides solutions to these issues and addresses the resulting requirements, which are not adequately handled by existing approaches. Examples of these applications include: searching for similar images, representing multi-theme layers in maps, recommending products to Web-clients, and indexing large Web-log files. Special emphasis is given to structure description, implementation techniques and clear evaluation of operations performed (from a performance perspective). Advanced Signature Indexing for Multimedia and Web Applications is an excellent reference for professionals involved in the development of applications in multimedia databases or the Web and may also serve as a textbook for advanced level courses in database and information retrieval systems.

  • Author : Nauman Chaudhry
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2005-04-14
  • ISBN : 9780387243931
  • Pages : 188 pages

Download or read book Stream Data Management written by Nauman Chaudhry and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-04-14 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Researchers in data management have recently recognized the importance of a new class of data-intensive applications that requires managing data streams, i.e., data composed of continuous, real-time sequence of items. Streaming applications pose new and interesting challenges for data management systems. Such application domains require queries to be evaluated continuously as opposed to the one time evaluation of a query for traditional applications. Streaming data sets grow continuously and queries must be evaluated on such unbounded data sets. These, as well as other challenges, require a major rethink of almost all aspects of traditional database management systems to support streaming applications. Stream Data Management comprises eight invited chapters by researchers active in stream data management. The collected chapters provide exposition of algorithms, languages, as well as systems proposed and implemented for managing streaming data. Stream Data Management is designed to appeal to researchers or practitioners already involved in stream data management, as well as to those starting out in this area. This book is also suitable for graduate students in computer science interested in learning about stream data management.

Book Fuzzy Database Modeling with XML

Download or read book Fuzzy Database Modeling with XML written by Zongmin Ma and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-06-15 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fuzzy Database Modeling with XML aims to provide a single record of current research and practical applications in the fuzzy databases. This volume is the outgrowth of research the author has conducted in recent years. Fuzzy Database Modeling with XML introduces state-of-the-art information to the database research, while at the same time serving the information technology professional faced with a non-traditional application that defeats conventional approaches. The research on fuzzy conceptual models and fuzzy object-oriented databases is receiving increasing attention, in addition to fuzzy relational database models. With rapid advances in network and internet techniques as well, the databases have been applied under the environment of distributed information systems. It is essential in this case to integrate multiple fuzzy database systems. Since databases are commonly employed to store and manipulate XML data, additional requirements are necessary to model fuzzy information with XML. Secondly, this book maps fuzzy XML model to the fuzzy databases. Very few efforts at investigating these issues have thus far occurred. Fuzzy Database Modeling with XML is designed for a professional audience of researchers and practitioners in industry. This book is also suitable for graduate-level students in computer science.

Book Mining Sequential Patterns from Large Data Sets

Download or read book Mining Sequential Patterns from Large Data Sets written by Wei Wang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-02-28 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In many applications, e.g., bioinformatics, web access traces, system u- lization logs, etc., the data is naturally in the form of sequences. It has been of great interests to analyze the sequential data to find their inherent char- teristics. The sequential pattern is one of the most widely studied models to capture such characteristics. Examples of sequential patterns include but are not limited to protein sequence motifs and web page navigation traces. In this book, we focus on sequential pattern mining. To meet different needs of various applications, several models of sequential patterns have been proposed. We do not only study the mathematical definitions and application domains of these models, but also the algorithms on how to effectively and efficiently find these patterns. The objective of this book is to provide computer scientists and domain - perts such as life scientists with a set of tools in analyzing and understanding the nature of various sequences by : (1) identifying the specific model(s) of - quential patterns that are most suitable, and (2) providing an efficient algorithm for mining these patterns. Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION Data Mining is the process of extracting implicit knowledge and discovery of interesting characteristics and patterns that are not explicitly represented in the databases. The techniques can play an important role in understanding data and in capturing intrinsic relationships among data instances. Data mining has been an active research area in the past decade and has been proved to be very useful.

Book Similarity Search

    Book Details:
  • Author : Pavel Zezula
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2006-06-07
  • ISBN : 0387291512
  • Pages : 227 pages

Download or read book Similarity Search written by Pavel Zezula and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-06-07 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The area of similarity searching is a very hot topic for both research and c- mercial applications. Current data processing applications use data with c- siderably less structure and much less precise queries than traditional database systems. Examples are multimedia data like images or videos that offer query by example search, product catalogs that provide users with preference based search, scientific data records from observations or experimental analyses such as biochemical and medical data, or XML documents that come from hetero- neous data sources on the Web or in intranets and thus does not exhibit a global schema. Such data can neither be ordered in a canonical manner nor meani- fully searched by precise database queries that would return exact matches. This novel situation is what has given rise to similarity searching, also - ferred to as content based or similarity retrieval. The most general approach to similarity search, still allowing construction of index structures, is modeled in metric space. In this book. Prof. Zezula and his co authors provide the first monograph on this topic, describing its theoretical background as well as the practical search tools of this innovative technology.

Tackling open issues in their deployment is gaining importance as lifelong learning becomes a necessity of the current knowledge-based society. Although Educational Recommender Systems (ERS) share the same key objectives as recommenders for e-commerce applications, there are some particularities that should be considered before directly applying existing solutions from those applications. Educational Recommender Systems and Technologies: Practices and Challenges aims to provide a comprehensive review of state-of-the-art practices for ERS, as well as the challenges to achieve their actual deployment. Discussing such topics as the state-of-the-art of ERS, methodologies to develop ERS, and architectures to support the recommendation process, this book covers researchers interested in recommendation strategies for educational scenarios and in evaluating the impact of recommendations in learning, as well as academics and practitioners in the area of technology enhanced learning.
