Book A User Acceptance of Web Personalization Systems

Download or read book A User Acceptance of Web Personalization Systems written by Dr. Fendi Ameen and published by Iris Publishing. This book was released on 2014-10-09 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on web personalization techniques for collecting and analysing web data in order to deliver personalized information to users is in an advanced state. Many metrics from the computational intelligence field have been developed to evaluate the algorithmic performance of Web Personalization Systems (WPSs). However, measuring the success of a WPS in terms of user acceptance is difficult until the WPS is deployed in practice. In summary, many techniques exist for delivering personalized information to a user, but a comprehensive measure of the success in WPSs in terms of human interaction and behaviour does not exist. This study aims to develop a framework for measuring user acceptance of WPSs from a user perspective. The proposed framework is based on the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT). The antecedents of user accep- tance are described by indicators based on four key constructs, i.e. performance expectancy (PE), effort expectancy (EE), social influence (SI), and facilitating conditions (FC). All these constructs are underpinned by Information Systems (IS) theories that determine the intention to use (BI) and the actual use (USE) of a technology. A user acceptance model was proposed and validated using structural equation modelling (SEM) via the partial least squares path modelling (PLS-PM). Four user characteristics (i.e. gender, age, skill and experience) have been chosen for testing the moderating effects of the four constructs. The relationship between the four constructs in regard to BI and USE has been validated through moderating effects, in order to present an overall view of the extent of user acceptance of a WPS. Results from response data analysis show that the acceptance of a WPS is deter- mined through PE, EE SI, and FC. The gender of a user was found to moderate the relationship between performance expectancy of a WPS and their behavioural intention in using a WPS. The effect of behavioural intention on the use of WPS is higher for a group of females than for males. Furthermore, the proposed model has been tested and validated for its explanation power of the model and effect size. The current study concluded that predictive relevance of intention to use a WPS is more effective than the actual WPS usage, which indicated that intention to use has more prediction power for describing a user acceptance of a WPS. The implications of these measures from the computational intelligent point of view are useful when a WPS is implemented. For example, the designer of a WPS should consider personalized design features that enable the delivery of relevant information, sharing to other users, and accessibility across many platforms, Such features create a better web experience and a complete security policy. These measures can be utilized to obtain a higher attention rate and continued use by a user; the features that define user acceptance of a WPS.

Book Robot Oriented Design

  • Author : Thomas Bock
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 2015-05-05
  • ISBN : 1107076382
  • Pages : 309 pages

Download or read book Robot Oriented Design written by Thomas Bock and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2015-05-05 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Cambridge Handbooks on Construction Robotics series focuses on the implementation of automation and robot technology to renew the construction industry and to arrest its declining productivity. The series is intended to give professionals, researchers, lecturers, and students basic conceptual and technical skills and implementation strategies to manage, research, or teach the implementation of advanced automation and robot-technology-based processes and technologies in construction. Currently, the implementation of modern developments in product structures (modularity and design for manufacturing), organizational strategies (just in time, just in sequence, and pulling production), and informational aspects (computer-aided design/manufacturing or computer-integrated manufacturing) are lagging because of the lack of modern integrated machine technology in construction. The Cambridge Handbooks on Construction Robotics books discuss progress in robot systems theory and demonstrate their integration using real systematic applications and projections for off-site as well as on-site building production. Robot-Oriented Design and Management introduces the design, innovation, and management methodologies that are key to the realization and implementation of the advanced concepts and technologies presented in the subsequent volumes. This book describes the efficient deployment of advanced construction and building technology. It is concerned with the coadaptation of construction products, processes, organization, and management, and with automated/robotic technology, so that the implementation of modern technology becomes easier and more efficient. It is also concerned with technology and innovation management methodologies and the generation of life cycle-oriented views related to the use of advanced technologies in construction.

Book The Sciences of the Artificial reissue of the third edition with a new introduction by John Laird

Download or read book The Sciences of the Artificial reissue of the third edition with a new introduction by John Laird written by Herbert A. Simon and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2019-08-13 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Herbert Simon's classic work on artificial intelligence in the expanded and updated third edition from 1996, with a new introduction by John E. Laird. Herbert Simon's classic and influential The Sciences of the Artificial declares definitively that there can be a science not only of natural phenomena but also of what is artificial. Exploring the commonalities of artificial systems, including economic systems, the business firm, artificial intelligence, complex engineering projects, and social plans, Simon argues that designed systems are a valid field of study, and he proposes a science of design. For this third edition, originally published in 1996, Simon added new material that takes into account advances in cognitive psychology and the science of design while confirming and extending the book's basic thesis: that a physical symbol system has the necessary and sufficient means for intelligent action. Simon won the Nobel Prize for Economics in 1978 for his research into the decision-making process within economic organizations and the Turing Award (considered by some the computer science equivalent to the Nobel) with Allen Newell in 1975 for contributions to artificial intelligence, the psychology of human cognition, and list processing. The Sciences of the Artificial distills the essence of Simon's thought accessibly and coherently. This reissue of the third edition makes a pioneering work available to a new audience.

Download or read book Radical Pedagogies written by Beatriz Colomina and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2022-05-31 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experiments in architectural education in the post–World War II era that challenged and transformed architectural discourse and practice. In the decades after World War II, new forms of learning transformed architectural education. These radical experiments sought to upend disciplinary foundations and conventional assumptions about the nature of architecture as much as they challenged modernist and colonial norms, decentered building, imagined new roles for the architect, and envisioned participatory forms of practice. Although many of the experimental programs were subsequently abandoned, terminated, or assimilated, they nevertheless helped shape and in some sense define architectural discourse and practice. This book explores and documents these radical pedagogies and efforts to defy architecture’s status quo. The experiments include the adaptation of Bauhaus pedagogy as a means of “unlearning” under the conditions of decolonization in Africa; a movement to design for “every body,” including the disabled, by architecture students and faculty at the University of California, Berkeley; the founding of a support network for women interested in the built environment, regardless of their academic backgrounds; and a design studio in the USSR that offered an alternative to the widespread functionalist approach in Soviet design. Viewed through their dissolution and afterlife as well as through their founding stories, these projects from the last century raise provocative questions about architecture’s role in the new century.

Book The Technological Society

Download or read book The Technological Society written by Jacques Ellul and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2021-07-27 with total page 531 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As insightful and wise today as it was when originally published in 1954, Jacques Ellul's The Technological Society has become a classic in its field, laying the groundwork for all other studies of technology and society that have followed. Ellul offers a penetrating analysis of our technological civilization, showing how technology—which began innocuously enough as a servant of humankind—threatens to overthrow humanity itself in its ongoing creation of an environment that meets its own ends. No conversation about the dangers of technology and its unavoidable effects on society can begin without a careful reading of this book. "A magnificent book . . . He goes through one human activity after another and shows how it has been technicized, rendered efficient, and diminished in the process.”—Harper's “One of the most important books of the second half of the twentieth-century. In it, Jacques Ellul convincingly demonstrates that technology, which we continue to conceptualize as the servant of man, will overthrow everything that prevents the internal logic of its development, including humanity itself—unless we take necessary steps to move human society out of the environment that 'technique' is creating to meet its own needs.”—The Nation “A description of the way in which technology has become completely autonomous and is in the process of taking over the traditional values of every society without exception, subverting and suppressing these values to produce at last a monolithic world culture in which all non-technological difference and variety are mere appearance.”—Los Angeles Free Press

  • Author : David Leatherbarrow
  • Publisher : University of Pennsylvania Press

Download or read book Topographical Stories written by David Leatherbarrow and published by University of Pennsylvania Press. This book was released on 2015-09-28 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Landscape architecture and architecture are two fields that exist in close proximity to one another. Some have argued that the two are, in fact, one field. Others maintain that the disciplines are distinct. These designations are a subject of continual debate by theorists and practitioners alike. Here, David Leatherbarrow offers an entirely new way of thinking of architecture and landscape architecture. Moving beyond partisan arguments, he shows how the two disciplines rely upon one another to form a single framework of cultural meaning. Leatherbarrow redefines landscape architecture and architecture as topographical arts, the shared task of which is to accommodate and express the patterns of our lives. Topography, in his view, incorporates terrain, built and unbuilt, but also traces of practical affairs, by means of which culture preserves and renews its typical situations and institutions. This rigorous argument is supported by nearly 100 illustrations, as well as examples of topography from the sixteenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries, through the heroic period of early modernism, to more recent offerings. A number of these studies revise existing accounts of decisive moments in the history of these disciplines, particularly the birth of the informal garden, the emergence of continuous space in the landscapes and architecture of the modern period, and the new significance of landform or earthwork in contemporary architecture. For readers not directly involved with either of these professions, this book shows how over the centuries our lives have been shaped and enriched by landscape and architecture. Topographical Stories provides a new paradigm for theorizing and practicing landscape and architecture.
