Book Nondestructive Testing Methods and New Applications

Download or read book Nondestructive Testing Methods and New Applications written by Mohammad Omar and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012-03-02 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nondestructive testing enables scientists and engineers to evaluate the integrity of their structures and the properties of their materials or components non-intrusively, and in some instances in real-time fashion. Applying the Nondestructive techniques and modalities offers valuable savings and guarantees the quality of engineered systems and products. This technology can be employed through different modalities that include contact methods such as ultrasonic, eddy current, magnetic particles, and liquid penetrant, in addition to contact-less methods such as in thermography, radiography, and shearography. This book seeks to introduce some of the Nondestructive testing methods from its theoretical fundamentals to its specific applications. Additionally, the text contains several novel implementations of such techniques in different fields, including the assessment of civil structures (concrete) to its application in medicine.

Book Materials Characterization Using Nondestructive Evaluation NDE Methods

Download or read book Materials Characterization Using Nondestructive Evaluation NDE Methods written by Gerhard Huebschen and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2016-03-23 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Materials Characterization Using Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Methods discusses NDT methods and how they are highly desirable for both long-term monitoring and short-term assessment of materials, providing crucial early warning that the fatigue life of a material has elapsed, thus helping to prevent service failures. Materials Characterization Using Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Methods gives an overview of established and new NDT techniques for the characterization of materials, with a focus on materials used in the automotive, aerospace, power plants, and infrastructure construction industries. Each chapter focuses on a different NDT technique and indicates the potential of the method by selected examples of applications. Methods covered include scanning and transmission electron microscopy, X-ray microtomography and diffraction, ultrasonic, electromagnetic, microwave, and hybrid techniques. The authors review both the determination of microstructure properties, including phase content and grain size, and the determination of mechanical properties, such as hardness, toughness, yield strength, texture, and residual stress. Gives an overview of established and new NDT techniques, including scanning and transmission electron microscopy, X-ray microtomography and diffraction, ultrasonic, electromagnetic, microwave, and hybrid techniques Reviews the determination of microstructural and mechanical properties Focuses on materials used in the automotive, aerospace, power plants, and infrastructure construction industries Serves as a highly desirable resource for both long-term monitoring and short-term assessment of materials

Book Review of Progress in Quantitative Nondestructive Evaluation

Download or read book Review of Progress in Quantitative Nondestructive Evaluation written by Donald O. Thompson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1818 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume (parts 1 and 2) are contained the edited papers presented at the annual Review of Progress in Quantitative NDE held at the University of California, San Diego, August 1-6, 1982. This Review, possibly the most comprehensive annual symposium emphasizing both ongoing research and applications in quantitative NDE, was sponsored by the Center for Advanced NDE at the Ames Laboratory of the U. S. Department of Energy in cooperation with the Materials Laboratory of the Air Force Wright Aeronautical Laboratories and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. Over 300 attendees representing various government agencies and the industrial and university communities participated in the technical presentations, poster sessions, and discussions. The symposium benefited from the insight of two keynote speak ers, Dr. Harris Burte of the Materials Laboratory, AFWAL, and Mr. Ward Rummel of the Martin Marietta Corporation, who presented complementary messages. Dr. Burte pointed out the need to identify "windows" to serve as guides for focusing NDE research. The "window" concept may be thought of as an opportunity for the application of NDE technology to an important problem and, through this application, to identify knowledge gaps which must be filled by generic research. This concept simultaneously provides a mechanism for the solution of a direct ap plication problem and a set of strong guidelines for generic research directions. Mr. Rummel called attention to the value of "lessons learned" from var.
