Book Advanced Computational Methods and Experiments in Heat Transfer XII

Download or read book Advanced Computational Methods and Experiments in Heat Transfer XII written by B. Sundén and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2012-06-27 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Containing papers presented at the twelfth in a series of successful international conferences on Advanced Computational Methods and Experiments in Heat Transfer, this book covers the latest developments in this important field. Heat Transfer plays a major role in emerging application fields such as sustainable development and the reduction of greenhouse gases, as well as micro- and nano-scale structures and bio-engineering. Typical applications include heat exchangers, gas turbine cooling, turbulent combustion and fires, electronics cooling, melting and solidification. The nature of heat transfer problems is complex, involving many different simultaneously occurring mechanisms (e.g., heat conduction, convection, turbulence, thermal radiation. phase change). Their complexity makes it imperative that we develop reliable and accurate computational methods to replace or complement expensive and time-consuming experimental trial and error work. Tremendous advances have been achieved during recent years due to improved numerical solutions of non-linear partial differential equations and more powerful computers capable of performing efficient and rapid calculations. Nevertheless, to further progress, it will also be necessary to develop theoretical and predictive computational procedures--both basic and innovative--and in applied research. Accurate experimental investigations are needed to validate the numerical calculations. The book includes such topics as: Heat Transfer in Energy Producing Devices; Heat Transfer Enhancement; Heat Transfer Problems; Natural and Forced Convection and Radiation; Multiphase Flow Heat Transfer; Modelling and Experiments.

Book Hybrid Adhesive Joints

Download or read book Hybrid Adhesive Joints written by Lucas F. M. da Silva and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-06-27 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents treat the material science and mechanical issues of hybrid adhesive bonds which are a combination of adhesive bonding rather than mechanical fasteners. The idea of hybrid joints is to gather the advantages of the different techniques leaving out their problems. Some of the advantages of these joints are a higher static and fatigue strength and a higher stiffness with respect to simple joints, a two-stage cracking process before the final failure and improved durability. The book treats all important kinds of joints which are in use today: weld – adhesive, rivet – adhesive, clinch – adhesive, bolt – adhesive, and adhesive – adhesive. A section dedicated to threadlocking and interference-fit adhesive joints is also included. All sections are treated from a scientific point of view with modeling issues supported by simple coupons testing and a technological point of view where the idea is to present more applied results with practical cases.

Book Fiber Reinforced Nanocomposites Fundamentals and Applications

Download or read book Fiber Reinforced Nanocomposites Fundamentals and Applications written by Baoguo Han and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2020-03-13 with total page 605 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fiber-reinforced Nanocomposites: Fundamentals and Applications explores the fundamental concepts and emerging applications of fiber-reinforced nanocomposites in the automobile, aerospace, transportation, construction, sporting goods, optics, electronics, acoustics and environmental sector. In addition, the book provides a detailed overview of the properties of fiber-reinforced nanocomposites, including discussion on embedding these high-strength fibers in matrices. Due to the mismatch in structure, density, strain and thermal expansion coefficients between matrix and fibers, their thermo-mechanical properties strongly depend not only on the preparative methods, but also on the interaction between reinforcing phase and matrix phase. This book offers a concise overview of these advances and how they are leading to the creation of stronger, more durable classes of nanocomposite materials. - Explores the interaction between fiber, nanoreinforcers and matrices at the nanoscale - Shows how the properties of fiber-enforced nanocomposites are ideal for use for a variety of consumer products - Outlines the major challenges to creating fiber-reinforced nanocomposites effectively
