Book Block Copolymers

Download or read book Block Copolymers written by Nikos Hadjichristidis and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2003-04-28 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polymers may be classified as either homopolymers, consisting of one single repeating unit, or copolymers, consisting of two or more distinct repeating units. Block copolymers contain long contiguous blocks of two or more repeating units in the same polymer chain. Covering one of the hottest topics in polymer chemistry, Block Copolymers provides a coherent overview of the synthetic routes, physical properties, and applications of block copolymers. This pioneering text provides not only a guideline for developing synthetic strategies for creating block copolymers with defined characteristics, but also a key to the relationship between the physical properties of block copolymers and the structure and dynamics of materials. Covering features of the chemistry and physics of block copolymers that are not found in comparable texts, Block Copolymers illustrates the structure-activity relationship of block copolymers and offers suggestions for the design of specific applications. Divided into five sections-Block Copolymers includes chapters on: * Block Copolymers by Chemical Modification of Precursor Polymers * Nonlinear Block Copolymers * Adsorption of Block Copolymers at Solid-Liquid Interfaces * Theory of Block Copolymer Segregation * Phase Transformation Kinetics * Block Copolymer Morphology * Block Copolymer Dynamics Polymer chemists, physicists, chemical engineers, and materials scientists, as well as graduate students in polymer science, will find Block Copolymers to be an invaluable text.

Book Surface Properties of Some Diblock Copolymers Adsorbed Onto Solid Substrates

Download or read book Surface Properties of Some Diblock Copolymers Adsorbed Onto Solid Substrates written by Francis Bossé and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Composites based on PS and polychloroethylene were analyzed by dynamic mechanical thermal analysis and differential scanning calorimetry methods. The composites were formulated with four loading levels (2, 5, 20 and 35 wt %) of uncoated and coated (S-4VP modified) particulates. A chain overlap region at the boundary of the particulate was determined. The extent of this region was found to increase in parallel with the PS diblock segments, and with favorable acid/base interactions between the composite constituents." --

Book Colloidal and Morphological Behavior of Block and Graft Copolymers

Download or read book Colloidal and Morphological Behavior of Block and Graft Copolymers written by Gunther Molau and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The molecules of block and graft copolymers are molecules of a higher order; they consist of homopolymer subchains which are interconnected by chemical valence bonds. This structural com plexity is manifested in the unusual behavior of block and graft copolymers both in solution and in bulk. Many types of interac tions are possible in block and graft copolymers in the solid state. Polymer subchains of one molecule can interact with other polymer subchains which may belong to the same molecule or to different molecules. Since polymer chains of chemically different composition are usually incompatible, thermodynamically unfavorable as well as thermodynamically favorable interactions exist in the solid state. In solutions of block and graft copolymers, the sit uation becomes even more complex, because interactions between the solvent molecules and the various subchains of the copolymer mole cules occur in addition to the interactions between the polymer chains. This multitude of interactions gives rise to a wide spec trum of colloidal and morphological properties which have no paral lel in less complex polymer systems such as homopolymers or random copolymers. Research on the colloidal and morphological behavior of block and graft copolymers is a relatively new field of endeavor. It started in 1954, when F. M. Merrett fractionated mixtures of grafted na tural rubber with the corresponding homopolymers and observed that colloidal sols were formed at certain points during his fractional precipitations.

Book Block Copolymers in Solution

Download or read book Block Copolymers in Solution written by Ian W. Hamley and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2005-12-13 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique text discusses the solution self-assembly of block copolymers and covers all aspects from basic physical chemistry to applications in soft nanotechnology. Recent advances have enabled the preparation of new materials with novel self-assembling structures, functionality and responsiveness and there have also been concomitant advances in theory and modelling. The present text covers the principles of self-assembly in both dilute and concentrated solution, for example micellization and mesophase formation, etc., in chapters 2 and 3 respectively. Chapter 4 covers polyelectrolyte block copolymers - these materials are attracting significant attention from researchers and a solid basis for understanding their physical chemistry is emerging, and this is discussed. The next chapter discusses adsorption of block copolymers from solution at liquid and solid interfaces. The concluding chapter presents a discussion of selected applications, focussing on several important new concepts. The book is aimed at researchers in polymer science as well as industrial scientists involved in the polymer and coatings industries. It will also be of interest to scientists working in soft matter self-assembly and self-organizing polymers.

Book Adhesion and Adsorption of Polymers

Download or read book Adhesion and Adsorption of Polymers written by Lieng-Huang Lee and published by Springer. This book was released on 1980-03 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Honolulu is a most beautiful place, suitable for all occa sions. Its choice as the meeting site for the first Joint Chemical Congress between the American Chemical SOCiety and the Chemical Society of Japan was praised by scientists from both sides. During this Congress, the International Conference on Adhesion and Adsorption of Polymers was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel between April 2 and 5, 1979. We had speakers from ten nations presenting over forty papers related to the subject matter. It was a memorable event. Unlike our two previous adhesion symposia held in 1971 and 1975, this was the first time in the same conference that we discussed both adhesion and adsorption of polymers simultaneously. These two important phenomena are not only inter-related, but also equally important in adhesive technology as well as biochemical processes. The papers presented to this Conference deal with these two phenomena from both fundamental and practical viewpoints. Furthermore, with the advance of new surface analytical techniques, the actual, microscopic happenings at the interfaces can be pin pointed. Thus, characterization of interface became one of the major focuses of this Conference. As a result, a broad coverage of the subject matter includes statistical thermodynamics, surface physics, surface analysis, fracture mechaniCS, viscoelasticity, failure analysis, surface modification, adsorption kinetics, bio polymer adsorption, etc. Thanks to the diligence of our contri butors, we are now able to publish the final papers in these two volumes.

Book Cyclic Polymers

Download or read book Cyclic Polymers written by E.R. Semlyen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-05-08 with total page 804 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cyclic Polymers (Second Edition) reviews the many recent advances in this rapidly expanding subject since the publication of the first edition in 1986. The preparation, characterisation, properties and applications of a wide range of organic and inorganic cyclic oligomers and polymers are described in detail, together with many examples of catenanes and rotaxanes. The importance of large cyclics in biological chemistry and molecular biology is emphasised by a wide coverage of circular DNA, cyclic peptides and cyclic oligosaccharides and polysaccharides. Experimental techniques and theoretical aspects of cyclic polymers are included, as well as examples of their uses such as ring opening polymerisation reactions to give commercially important materials. This book covers a wide range of topics which should be of interest to many scientific research workers (for example, in polymer science, chemistry and molecular biology), as well as providing a reference text for undergraduate and graduate students.
