With its touching message of love and reassurance, and whimsical illustrations,Welcome Home, Forever Child is sure to be cherished by children and parents alike. While best suited to children ages two to eight, this gem will undoubtedly be enjoyed by older children as well. Most childrens adoption books reflect infant adoptions, and may not be appropriate for the older child who spent their early years in foster care or an orphanage. Welcome Home, Forever Child is a much needed book that social workers and therapists will want to recommend to families who adopted their child past the age of two. The book helps parents reassure children of their permanent place in the new family, and of how much they are wanted and loved. It will also make a very special and meaningful keepsake gift for a child upon joining his or her new family, upon finalizing the adoption, or upon the anniversary of either event.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adopting a child is a magical thing! My parents always made me feel special to be adopted. This story describes a couple's yearning for a child and then their excitement when they learn that there is a special baby just for them! It is told in the same way that my parents shared my adoption story with me every night. Simple. Honest. Special. Loved. Adoption doesn't make you weird; it makes you wonderful. Waiting for something you want is very hard to do, especially when the thing you desire most is a child. Sometimes God answers prayers with a "Not yet." This doesn't always mean no . The couple in this book prayed, waited, and then prayed some more! When it was the right time, God said yes. I hope this little story can help explain the beauty of adoption to children. I hope adoptive parents can identify with the couple in this book and that it might inspire their own special story for their family. I especially hope that when adoptive children hear this story, they will feel that they were the one thing that was missing in their parents' lives.

Book excerpt: Adoption & me is a beautifully illustrated bedtime storybook that sensitively explains the concept of adoption to really young children. The book provides a good starting point to help children understand their adoption journey so that they can comprehend and answer the question "Are You, My Real Mummy & Daddy?". I created the book from my own experience of trying to understand why my mother and father looked so different from me. Parents face difficulties with discussing this exact topic with their adopted child, and this book is perhaps a way to help them explain this very question when the child is still young. All proceeds of this book will go towards paying for my organization www.adoptionandme.org which lends free & impartial support and advice to adoptive parents and the adopted children.

Download or read book My Adoption Story written by Jana Henderson and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-07-04 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most intimidating parts of being adoptive parents is finding the best way to tell a child he or she is adopted. Parents worry that their child will interpret that truth to mean they aren't as wanted or loved, since the birth mother might to appear to have just "given them away." Jana Henderson was faced with this dilemma as her son, Matthew, turned five and was old enough to be told the truth. Overwhelmed at the prospect, Jana thought it would be easiest if she could just read Matthew a story which explains adoption in a light that shows just how much an adoptive child is loved and wanted. She wanted to find a story that demonstrates how much the parents searched and waited for their child to come into their lives. Jana hunted through book stores and the internet for a suitable story but couldn't find anything close to what she needed; so, she decided to write the story herself. Jana says, "I wanted it to be a fun story, but also very factual." The story she wrote is of a young boy named Avery who has an owl-friend that flies to his window each night and tells him a bedtime story. One night, Henry the Hoot Owl let Avery know that the story he had for him that evening was an important story, "one that is wonderful and true." Through the storytelling of the Owl to Avery, Jana was able to show how a little boy was greatly loved by his birth-mother, so much so that she wanted him to have the perfect parents. It also shows the adoptive parents waiting, praying, and hoping for their little boy. The story demonstrates the great joy everyone felt when the boy was adopted by his new parents, and all the ways they became a loving family. At the end of the story, Henry the Hoot Owl reveals that Avery is the little boy in the story. Jana used this heart-felt story that she had written to explain to Matthew that he is Avery in the story. She reports that the story was a huge success. Reading it to Matthew didn't leave him wondering or having any questions about his adoption. Jana explains, "To our amazement, he was perfectly OK with this knowledge. Our son understood and our fears were erased." A year later, without any further mention of his adoption, Matthew made a small comment to his mom, letting her know that he remembered being adopted. Jana was shocked and asked him if he recalled their talk and the story she had read to him. Matthew said, "Yes, I remember the story. I held it in my heart." Jana had to leave the room quickly so he wouldn't see her burst into tears. Matthew is seventeen today, and a senior in high school. Jana has thought for many years about sharing the story she wrote as a book, so that it might assist other adoptive parents to have a positive way to tell their children how they came to be a family. My Adoption Story as Told by Henry the Hoot Owl was released in the summer of 2017 by Triumph Press and is a colorful illustrated children's book that Jana Henderson hopes will be that missing resource to help other adoptive parents during the wonderful and overwhelming time in their lives when they tell their adoptive child how much they are loved.

Book What Is Your Story

Download or read book What Is Your Story written by Lynn Deiulis and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2021-10-21 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is Your Story? is an engaging, colourful book that gives children permission to discover their unique journey of adoption or kinship. The book’s goal is to normalize the questions children have, while at the same time normalizing the need to ask them. Divided by activity pages, each chapter can be read independently, and even out of order, in an effort to focus on each child’s specific story. This book can help: -Parents, caregivers, and other adults involved in the adoption or kinship process to have open, honest discussions with children about their unique stories. -Birth parents who want to talk about adoption and kinship with birth children they are not living with. It can help children understand their unique story of why they are not living together with their birth parent(s) and who their birth family is. -Professionals who are preparing children for adoption or kinship placements, as well as therapists working with children who are living through adoption or kinship processes. Special note to parents/caregivers Designed as a fun way to reinforce the content that you have just read together, the activity pages between the chapters are also a natural way to stop reading if you or the child are feeling overwhelmed. This book is more of a journey than a story and sometimes you or your child may need to stay on a chapter until it is comfortable to continue, until all the feelings are felt, or until all the questions are asked. Just like other journeys, detours and construction delays are normal and even expected. Some families might need to reach out to community resources to help manage their feelings and that is encouraged. There are as many ways to read this book, as there are butterflies!
