Book Age Adjustment Factors for Milk and Fat Production of Red and White Holstein Cows in Brazil

Download or read book Age Adjustment Factors for Milk and Fat Production of Red and White Holstein Cows in Brazil written by B. do E.S. de CAMPOS and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A total of 3.619 lactation records of red and white holstein friesian cows in Brazil from 1953 to 1979 were utilized to estimate the age of cow adjustment factors for milk and fat production by gross comparison (GC), paired comparison (PC) and maximum likelihood (MLE) methods. Repeatability estimates were obtained by intra-class correlation for all traits with3.011 lactation records adjusted to mature equivalent by the MLE method, using two methods; (10 variance components for cows were estimated by adjusting by least squares for the main effects of heards and years of calving and (2) the variance components for cows were adjusted for the herd x year of calving interaction also. The repeatability estimates were .44 and .46 for milk .36 and .42 for fat and . and 40 and 49 for fat percent for method I e II respectively.

Book Usda Dhia Factors for Standardizing 305 Day Lactation Records for Age and Month of Calving Classic Reprint

Download or read book Usda Dhia Factors for Standardizing 305 Day Lactation Records for Age and Month of Calving Classic Reprint written by Howard Duane Norman and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-10-03 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Usda-Dhia Factors for Standardizing 305-Day Lactation Records for Age and Month of Calving The accepted standard length of the lactation record is 305 days. When a cow is milked longer than 305 days, her yield for the first 305 days is used as the lactation yield. Partial lactations (those terminated in less than 305 days because of environmental influences having no relation to the cow's genetic ability to complete normal length lactations) are considered legitimate measures of the cow's performance up to the time they were terminated and are projected to 305 days. Book Persistency of Lactation in Dairy Cows

Download or read book Persistency of Lactation in Dairy Cows written by W. L. Gaines and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-23 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Persistency of Lactation in Dairy Cows: A Preliminary Study of Certain Guernsey and Holstein Records The term persistency of lactation is used to refer to the degree with which the rate of milk secretion is maintained as lactation advances. Cows ordinarily reach their highest rate of milk secretion in any one lactation period, shortly after calving. Following the flush of lactation, the rate of milk secretion declines more or less rapidly until the cow goes dry naturally or is dried up artificially by discontinuing milking. Book Rate of Milk Secretion As Affected by Advance in Lactation and Gestation

Download or read book Rate of Milk Secretion As Affected by Advance in Lactation and Gestation written by Walter Lee Gaines and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-30 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Rate of Milk Secretion as Affected by Advance in Lactation and Gestation: Correction of Yield, Within a Lactation Period, for Length of Record and for Pregnancy The relation between the 7-day and 365-day records of the Holstein breed has been studied by Yapp3 and by Gowen and Gowen.4 Yapp considered all ages together and found the correlation between the milk records for the two periods within the same lactation to be r 702 d: 01. Gowen and Gowen find this coefficient reduced to about 6 when confined to narrow age limits. The latter authors have derived a complete series of prediction equations or correction formulae to express, for various ages, the quantitative relations between the two records. These formulae are based on a linear equation, y a bx, where y is the yield to be expected from the record, as, which is known. We are concerned in this study more particularly with records of varying length in the same lactation, say from 200 to 365 days, during which the calf is carried varying lengths of time. Of particular interest is the relation between the 305-day and 365-day records, since these periods constitute a common basis of distinction in the official testing of several of our dairy breeds.
