Book Digital Speech Transmission

Download or read book Digital Speech Transmission written by Peter Vary and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-08-04 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The enormous advances in digital signal processing (DSP) technology have contributed to the wide dissemination and success of speech communication devices – be it GSM and UMTS mobile telephones, digital hearing aids, or human-machine interfaces. Digital speech transmission techniques play an important role in these applications, all the more because high quality speech transmission remains essential in all current and next generation communication networks. Enhancement, coding and error concealment techniques improve the transmitted speech signal at all stages of the transmission chain, from the acoustic front-end to the sound reproduction at the receiver. Advanced speech processing algorithms help to mitigate a number of physical and technological limitations such as background noise, bandwidth restrictions, shortage of radio frequencies, and transmission errors. Digital Speech Transmission provides a single-source, comprehensive guide to the fundamental issues, algorithms, standards, and trends in speech signal processing and speech communication technology. The authors give a solid, accessible overview of fundamentals of speech signal processing speech coding, including new speech coders for GSM and UMTS error concealment by soft decoding artificial bandwidth extension of speech signals single and multi-channel noise reduction acoustic echo cancellation This text is an invaluable resource for engineers, researchers, academics, and graduate students in the areas of communications, electrical engineering, and information technology.

Book Adaptive Block Transform Coding of Speech Based on LPC Vector Quantization

Download or read book Adaptive Block Transform Coding of Speech Based on LPC Vector Quantization written by Yunus Hussain and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "In this paper we describe an adaptive block transform speech coding system based on vector quantization of LPC parameters. In order to account for the power fluctuations, the speech signal is normalized to have a unit-energy prediction residual. The temporal variations in the short-term spectrum, on the other hand, are taken into account by vector quantizing the LPC parameters associated with the vector of speech samples and transmitting the codeword index. For each block, based on the codevector associated with the input vector, an optimum bit assignment map is used to quantize the transform coefficients.

Download or read book A Practical Handbook of Speech Coders written by Randy Goldberg and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-08-21 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Practical Handbook of Speech Coders offers in-depth treatment of the basics of speech coding plus the innovations to the basic methods that make the coders useful and efficient. It describes the fundamentals of auditory information processing and how they relate to speech coding, and shows readers how to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of all publicly available codes and choose the right one. It explains how to measure the quality of speech coders with objective, subjective, and perceptual measures. The book also shows engineers how to tailor existing speech coders and provides the building blocks to create new coders.

Book Speech Coding and Synthesis

Download or read book Speech Coding and Synthesis written by W. Bastiaan Kleijn and published by Elsevier Science & Technology. This book was released on 1995 with total page 784 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hardbound. The fields of speech coding and synthesis have developed rapidly over the last decade. Text-to-text speech systems now produce reasonable quality speech, and currently available speech coders can transmit good quality speech at below 10kb/s. This, in combination with the ever-increasing speed of microprocessors and signal processing hardware, has resulted in a large number of practical applications. These applications in turn have stimulated research, and the number of papers published on speech coding and synthesis have proliferated rapidly. Reflecting periodically on such developments have inspired the publication of this book. Topics such as the effect of cross channel errors on coded speech and the determination of a proper pitch contour for synthesized speech are included. Both readers unfamiliar with the fields of speech coding and speech synthesis as well as those already working within the areas, will find the book of interest.
