Book Development of a Nonlinear Adaptive Control Scheme for Hydraulic Actuators

Download or read book Development of a Nonlinear Adaptive Control Scheme for Hydraulic Actuators written by and published by . This book was released on 1906 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydraulic servovalve controlled systems contain many time-varying dynamic characteristics that are difficult to model. Controllers for such systems must either adapt to these changing parameters or be robust enough to handle the parameter variations. In this Thesis the application of an indirect model reference adaptive control (MRAC) scheme to a hydraulic actuator is investigated. A discrete-time plant model is suggested which has dead time and no zeros, eliminating the possibility of unstable pole-zero cancellation. Using this model, a linear indirect adaptive controller is developed and tested first on a simulation model of a hydraulic positioning system The robustness of the parameter adaptation is achieved by using recursive least-squares algorithm in combination with a dead zone in the adaptive law. While the controller shows good performance for a valve with linear flow characteristics, it shows low performance in the presence of flow deadbeat and nonlinear orifice opening. To deal with these two nonconformities, the linear plant model is augmented by adding a static nonagenarian. The resulting nonlinear MRAC shows improved performance as compared to its linear counterpart. Experiments on an existing hydraulic test station confirms the effectiveness and performance improvement of the proposed method.

Book Advances on Testing and Experimentation in Civil Engineering

Download or read book Advances on Testing and Experimentation in Civil Engineering written by Carlos Chastre and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-28 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the most recent advances on testing and experimentation in civil engineering, especially in the branches of materials, structures, and buildings, complementing the authors’ publication Advances on Testing and Experimentation in Civil Engineering - Geotechnics, Transportation, Hydraulics and Natural Resources. It includes advances in physical modelling, monitoring techniques, data acquisition and analysis, and provides an invaluable contribution to the installation of new civil engineering experimental facilities. The first part of the book covers the latest advances in the testing and experimentation of key domains of materials, such as bio-cementation and self-healing, durability, and recycled materials, as well as the new environmental requirements related to the presence of hazardous substances in construction materials. Furthermore, laboratory and in situ tests, together with equipment needed to estimate the behaviour and durability of construction materials are presented, updating the most important technological advances. The second part of the book highlights the relevance of testing and monitoring in structures, including in situ tests related to static load tests, dynamic tests, and long-term monitoring strategies, as well as laboratory tests of adhesive joints. Experimental tests on shake tables and blast-resistant structures are also described. Recent applications of drone technologies for the inspection and monitoring of civil structures are another important theme developed. Finally, in its third part, the book presents new developments in the characterisation of building testing, with the support of modelling, to assess building pathology and new requirements, acoustic comfort, fire safety, visual comfort, and energy consumption.

Book Adaptive Control System Volume 1 Equipment and Testing

Download or read book Adaptive Control System Volume 1 Equipment and Testing written by and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This final report describes a two year effort to enhance the dynamic response of the load electro-hydraulic control systems used in fatigue testing by a combination of adding control functions of resonance compensation, integral control, and feedforward to the electronic controller; making frequency response measurements of the open-loop control system as a basis for closed loop adjustment; and using a small computer to assist in the optimum adjustment of the control equipments. Hardware was developed and produced for three systems including computer controlled frequency response analyzer, and manual or computer setup controller, resonance compensation and manual integral control and feedforward networks. Software was developed to make the frequency response measurements, to optimize system adjustments, to set the control hardware, and to make on-line digital data taking and data reduction possible. The individual components and the overall system was demonstrated and upgraded by application to real test setups in the Structures Test Laboratory. Significant improvements in dynamic performance and run time were achieved. Adaptive setup and on-line adjustment are now possible.

Book Statistical Methods for QTL Mapping

Download or read book Statistical Methods for QTL Mapping written by Zehua Chen and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-11-01 with total page 944 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While numerous advanced statistical approaches have recently been developed for quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping, the methods are scattered throughout the literature. Statistical Methods for QTL Mapping brings together many recent statistical techniques that address the data complexity of QTL mapping. After introducing basic genetics topics and statistical principles, the author discusses the principles of quantitative genetics, general statistical issues of QTL mapping, commonly used one-dimensional QTL mapping approaches, and multiple interval mapping methods. He then explains how to use a feature selection approach to tackle a QTL mapping problem with dense markers. The book also provides comprehensive coverage of Bayesian models and MCMC algorithms and describes methods for multi-trait QTL mapping and eQTL mapping, including meta-trait methods and multivariate sequential procedures. This book emphasizes the modern statistical methodology for QTL mapping as well as the statistical issues that arise during this process. It gives the necessary biological background for statisticians without training in genetics and, likewise, covers statistical thinking and principles for geneticists. Written primarily for geneticists and statisticians specializing in QTL mapping, the book can also be used as a supplement in graduate courses or for self-study by PhD students working on QTL mapping projects.
