Book Adaptive Control Techniques for Large Space Structures

Download or read book Adaptive Control Techniques for Large Space Structures written by robert L. Kosut and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report summarizes the research performed on adaptive control techniques for Large Space Structures (LSS). The research effort concentrated on two areas: (1) on-line robust design from identified models - what is referred to here as adaptive calibration; and (2) an analysis of slow-adaptation for adaptive control of LSS. The report summarizes the results obtained in theses areas and also includes Appendices which contain technical articles: (1) Adaptive Control of Large Space Structures; (2) Adaptive Control Via Finite Modeling and Robust Control; (3) On the use of the Method of Averaging for the Stability analysis of Adaptive Linear Control Systems; and (4) Conditions for the Convergence and Divergence of Parameter Adaptive Linear Systems. (JHD).

Book Adaptive Techniques for Control of Large Space Structures

Download or read book Adaptive Techniques for Control of Large Space Structures written by R. L. Kosut and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is a collection of published papers reporting on research supported by AFOSR. These papers deal primarily with theoretical aspects of adaptive control of systems which cannot be precisely modeled, e.g., unmodeled dynamics and disturbances. These latter characteristics are fundamental issues in adaptive (and nonadaptive) control design for large space structures (LSS). Some of the general topics covered include: LSS modeling and model error, decentralized control, robust adaptive control, global stability, local stability, and persistent excitation. Keywords include: Large space structures; adaptive control; robust control; equations.

Book Adaptive Control of Large Space Structures

Download or read book Adaptive Control of Large Space Structures written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Preliminary results are presented for set estimation of uncertain nonlinear systems. Set estimation is a process in an adaptive robust control system which produces a set of models from the measured data. The set is then used in an on-line robust control design to implement a controller which is guaranteed to achieve performance goals for all members on the set. The scheme works whenever the actual system which produced the data is a member of the estimated set. The results of this report extend some previous work in linear set estimation to nonlinear systems. This report also summarizes an analysis of an adaptive nonlinear system using the method of averaging. The aim of adaptive control is to implement in real-time and on-line as many as possible of the design functions now performed off-line by the control engineer. Although it is easy to configure an adaptive system by connecting an estimator and control design rule, research is essential to identify the performance limitations of adaptive strategies for LSS control. The long range goal of this research program is to establish guidelines for selecting the appropriate strategy, to evaluate performance improvements over fixed-gain mechanizations, and to examine the architecture necessary to produce a practical hardware realization. The initial and continuing thrust, however, is to build a strong theoretical foundation without losing sight of the practical implementation issues.

Book Adaptive and Learning Systems

Download or read book Adaptive and Learning Systems written by Kumpati S. Narendra and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-22 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume offers a glimpse of the status of research in adaptive and learning systems in 1985. In recent years these areas have spawned a multiplicity of ideas so rapidly that the average research worker or practicing engineer is overwhelmed by the flood of information. The Yale Workshop on Applications of Adaptive Systems Theory was organized in 1979 to provide a brief respite from this deluge, wherein critical issues may be examined in a calm and collegial environment. The fourth of the series having been held in May 1985, it has now become well established as a biennial forum for the lively exchange of ideas in the ever changing domain of adaptive systems. The scope of this book is broad and ranges from theoretical investigations to practical applications. It includes twenty eight papers by leaders in the field, selected from the Pro ceedings of the Fourth Yale Workshop and divided into five sections. I have provided a brief introduction to each section so that it can be read as a self-contained unit. The first section, devoted to adaptive control theory, suggests the intensity of activity in the field and reveals signs of convergence towards some common themes by workers with rather different moti vation. Preliminary results concerning the reduced order model problem are dramatically changing the way we view the field and bringing it closer to other areas such as robust linear control where major advances have been recently reported.

Book Applications of Adaptive Control

Download or read book Applications of Adaptive Control written by Kumpati S. Narendra and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 569 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Control Applications of Adaptive covers the proceedings of the 197 Workshop on Applications of Adaptive Control, held in Yale University. This book is organized into five parts encompassing 18 chapters that summarize the potential application of adaptive control to many practical problems. Part I contains tutorials that bring together important result s in two of the most studied approaches to adaptive control, namely, self-tuning regulators and model reference adaptive control (MRAC), with a particular emphasis on the importance of error models in the stability analysis of MRAC. Part II examines the algorithms used for adaptive signal processing, while Part III describes the types of power systems problems that could benefit from application of adaptive control and how to apply adaptive control algorithms for controlling large electric generators. Part IV highlights adaptive control in aircraft systems. This part also considers how adaptive control fell into disfavor in the flight control community, illustrating the existence of residual negative bias. The desirability of cost elimination of air data sensors in less-sophisticated flight control systems is also discussed. Part V addresses the application of process control to chemical processes and to electromechanical systems. This part also shows the robustness and superior tracking and regulation properties of model reference adaptive control applied to liquid level control. Discussion on various classes of model reference adaptive controllers in a common framework from the viewpoint of microcomputer implementation is also included. This book will be of value to control system theorists and practitioners.
