When Adam is in the Garden of Eden, eager to learn the skills he sees the animals have, he has Fish and Dog teach him how to swim. Monkey teaches him how to use the vines to swing from tree to tree, and the birds teach Adam how to whistle. Adam’s philosophy is “What is impossible today is possible tomorrow.” Watching the birds fly high into the sky, Adam wants to learn to fly. Find out what Adam learns about flying. The story “Brutus and Patches” is about a Saint Bernard dog, Brutus, who has the run of the house by his owners, Thelma and Bill. When Thelma is given a kitten she names Patches, she becomes angry with Brutus because of his aggressive behavior with Patches. Brutus often loses his house privileges and is upset because Patches scratches his tender nose. Will Brutus and Patches ever learn to get along with each other? “Elvira and the Choir” is a story of fifty-six-year-old Elvira who has suffered a stroke. Because the stroke has left her with childlike behavior, her husband divorces her. She moves to another community where being lonely, she attends church. When she tells the minister she loved hearing the choir sing, the minister invites her to join the choir. George, the leader of the choir, once he hears her loud, raspy voice, doesn’t want Elvira to sing in his choir. How does Elvira win everyone’s hearts, including George’s and the choir members? The story “Debbie’s Angel” is about a young girl who has been an orphan most of her life. Sad because the following day, the much-disliked Mrs. Beamer is going to cut the girls’ hair, Debbie looks out of her window late at night. From the starry heavens, an angel descends. The angel teaches Debbie that true beauty is gained by being kind to others. Can Debbie teach the girls to like Mrs. Beamer? These and the other short stories in the collection are both entertaining and inspiring.

Book God s Good Morning

Download or read book God s Good Morning written by Betty Raymond Gubler and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-05-03 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The manuscript of God's "Good Morning" is just what the subtitle claims. It is a retelling of my spiritual journey raising an autistic son who is now fifty-four years old. Our son lives at home with his parents and will do so until my husband Greg and I become incapable of parenting him due to old age or our passing at which time, our son will live with his sister. Thus, this relationship is a lifelong commitment. This manuscript is a story of the growth of faith, hope, and love. My intention of writing such a manuscript is that of my desire to share with other parents of a special needs child my experiences dealing with this daunting challenge. This is not a clinical manuscript, but rather a manuscript of personal growth from shock, despair, and discouragement to acceptance, peace, and joy and reveals the miraculous healing of my broken spirit. Although this manuscript is written for parents of special needs children, it would also be found inspiring by a general audience of readers.

Book excerpt: I shall tell you a story—it is the tale of a journey. Gather round, young and old, for the moving and amusing tale of Adam, a most curious and unique little whistle-pig. Adam is different from the rest of his group from birth. Those in the Whistle-pig Clan do not think deep thoughts. They do not laugh. They cannot even smile! But Adam does these things. Adam plays when the others do not. He explores where the others do not. He protects when others will not. And for all his differences, he is shunned from the group and finds a home, alone, a short distance away from where he grew up. Adam is mostly pleased with his solitary life, but he can't help longing for someone to share his thoughts with. A prisoner in his own mind, he sometimes finds it easy to make a bad choice. But, as he is different than any other whistle-pig, he begins to feel emotions that whistle-pigs and others in the animal kingdom do not feel. These emotions leave him conflicted, until the arrival of Agnus, a strangely kind two leg. A story of redemption and hope, The Awakening of Adam is an allegorical treasure that will inspire your heart and touch your spirit.

Book The World Without

Download or read book The World Without written by Glenn Ric and published by GRS Communications. This book was released on 2015-05-31 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Last Days of the Koonung is a rip roaring, fast paced adventure characterized by evocative imagery, positive values and original themes. Appealing to the imagination of readers aged 8 to 12, the story is set on Melbourne’s urban fringe where nature and city collide. It is here that Adam and Tom are persuaded by Adam’s older brother to climb the gigantic tree that grows in Edgars Valley. Unknowingly they cross the Gateway into the fourth dimension, ‘The World Without’, a beautiful land where the power of life is richer and greater than anything that exists in our world. However, a decade’s long conflict rages between the long-suffering Marou and tormented Fras who were recreated as lesser beings during the Diminishing; a catastrophic event brought on by Adam’s father when he was a boy. The Diminishing has left the Fras deformed and the Marou lessened in power and stature. The boys soon learn that the Fras have found one of the lost Life Elements which imbue extraordinary powers upon the holder. While the Marou seek the Elements in the hope of being restored, the Fras are filled with hate, intent on regaining the Elements and taking their revenge on the boy’s father, his family and the Marou. ‘For young reader, this rapidly evolving story, energetic writing and original themes sustain the narrative, for daring beginning to climactic end.’ ‘The book embodies the adventurous spirit of pre-adolescence when reality and fantasy overlap, as make-believe games, exploring and climbing trees become extraordinary.’

Book The Boys and Their Baby

Download or read book The Boys and Their Baby written by Larry Wolff and published by Knopf. This book was released on 2012-11-14 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “The boys” are Adam and Huck, former college roommates. A decade out of college and just as long out of touch with each other, they are reunited when Adam arrives to share Huck’s apartment on Russian Hill in San Francisco. “Their baby” is Christopher, Huck’s entrancing almost-one-year-old son, whose mother is nowhere in evidence and, at first, much to Adam’s befuddlement, mysteriously unmentioned. The story centers on Adam as he sets out to construct a life for himself in the unfamiliar city. He assumes his new job as an English teacher at a fancy private school, where one of his students develops an obsessive (and disturbing) interest in him. Adam coasts into simultaneous affairs with two women: one of them a striking, locally celebrated chanteuse, and the other a physics teacher with a distinctive footwear fetish. As the city and its denizens—women and men, gay and straight, young and old—make Adam welcome in various and telling ways…as he approaches a certain peace with his past (through letters to and from his riotously enraged ex-girlfriend and his hugely intimidating mother)…as living with the baby and the baby’s father exerts a profound influence on Adam…as the story of the baby’s missing mother dramatically unfolds…we watch Adam come to surprising terms with his life and himself. The Boys and Their Baby is a wonderfully entertaining novel of domestic and sexual manners, 1980s San Francisco-style, marking the debut of splendidly gifted novelist Larry Wolff.

Book excerpt: This is my world, I am the king, I make the rules and everyone else can go to hell. This is off-shore. Oxfam estimate that there is $18.5 trillion siphoned out of the world economy into tax havens by wealthy individuals alone. Christian Aid has calculated that 1,000 children die every day as a result of tax evasion. This is not just a political or social challenge: this is a matter of human rights. Islands is an illuminating, absurd and powerful new show about tax havens, little empires, enormous greed, and the few who have it all. Hilarious and unnerving, this ink-black comedy with music plunges you into a monstrous, secretive world where it really seems that no-one has to pay.... for anything. Head off-shore and frolic with those who have it all worked out as they feed their addiction to wealth, power and material stuff. The play received its world premiere at the Bush Theatre, London, on 15 January 2015.
