This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended as a text for a course in programming languages. The pre requisites for such a course are insight in structured programming and knowledge as well as practical experience of at least one (e.g., Pascal) of the programming languages treated in the book. The emphasis is on language concepts rather than on syntactic details. The book covers a number of important language concepts that are related to data struc tures. The comparison of the programming languages Pascal, Algol 68, PL/1 and Ada consists in investigating how these concepts are supported by each of these languages. Interesting evaluation criteria are generality, simplicity, safety, readability and portability. The study of programming languages is based on a simple model called SMALL. This model serves as a didactic vehicle for describing, comparing and evaluating data structures in various programming languages. Each chapter centers around a specific language concept. It consists of a general discussion followed by a number of language sections, one for each of the languages Pascal, Algol 68, PL/1 and Ada. Each of these sections contains a number of illustrating program fragments written in the programming language concerned. For each program fragment in one language, there is an analogous fragment in the others. The book can be read "vertically" so that the programming languages Pascal, Algol 68, PL/1 and Ada are encountered in that order several times. A "horizontal" reading of the book would consist in selecting only those sections which only concern one language.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the Second Symposium on Empirical Foundations of Informa tion and Software Science (EFISS) was, in essence, the same as that of the First Symposium in this series, i. e. to explore subjects and methods of sci entific inquiry which are of fundamental and common interest to information and software sciences, and to map directions of research that will benefit from the mutual interaction of these two fields. In fact, one of the most important results of the First EFISS Symposium was the conclusion that the commonality of these two sciences is much more than just the commonality of their objects of study, namely, the study of informative and prescriptive properties of texts in all kinds of sign sys tems (such as natural or artificial languages). Rather, the most challeng ing problems appear to be in the areas in which both these sciences overlap, such as, for instance, the problem of trade-offs between informative and prescriptive uses of texts. This problem can be formulated in generic terms as follows: given a certain kind of action or activity which has been pre scribed to some agent, i. e. which is required to be implemented or carried out, what kind of information should be provided to the agent, in what form, and how should it be distributed over the contextual structure of the pre scriptive text to enable the agent to carry out the action or activity most effectively and efficiently.

Download or read book System Software And Software Systems Execution Support Environment written by Daniela L Rus and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-11-26 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SYSTEM SOFTWARE AND SOFTWARE SYSTEMS: Concepts and Methodology is intended to offer a systematic treatment of the theory and practice of designing and implementing system software. The two volumes systematically develop and apply the systems methodology for software development. For that the concept of a system is analysed and various types of systems used in computer science are systematized into a concept of an ad hoc system that is suitable as a mechanism for software development. The kernel of this methodology consists of a systematic approach for ad hoc systems development (specification, implementation, validation). The hardware and the software of a computer system are specified as ad hoc systems. Examples from various architectures, languages, and operating systems are provided as illustrations. Problems and their suggested solutions are provided at the end of each chapter. Further readings and a list of references conclude each chapter. These volumes are self-contained and may be used as textbooks for an introductory course on system software and for a course on operating system. However, a broad spectrum of professionals in computer science will benefit from it.
Download or read book Control and Dynamic Systems V46 Manufacturing and Automation Systems Techniques and Technologies written by C.T. Leonides and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Control and Dynamic Systems: Advances in Theory and Applications, Volume 46: Manufacturing and Automation Systems: Techniques and Technologies, Part 2 of 5 covers the significant advances and issues on the utilization of techniques and technologies in the manufacturing industries. This volume is divided into nine chapters and starts with the essential issue of software in manufacturing systems, particularly the aspects of the control software that are active in the time-critical or real time portions of the machine's operation. The succeeding chapters deal with the interactions between material-handling systems and other components of manufacturing systems; the principles of flexible manufacturing systems; the various views on the contributions of mechatronics; and the techniques for machine layout optimization in manufacturing and automation systems. These topics are followed by discussions of the application of a real-time control system to address issues of safety, productivity advances, and production cost reductions. Other chapters consider the influence of human supervisory control of predominantly automated manufacturing processes and the techniques for the manufacturing systems integration. The final chapter examines the major importance of the assembly line balancing to manufacturing systems. This book is of great value to process and mechanical engineers, as well as process control workers and researchers.
