Elastic resistance training has been shown to increase the force, velocity, and power compared to traditional free weight movements. The purpose of this study was to determine if a specific loading condition could increase both kinetic and kinematic variables within a bench press. To test this, two loading conditions (15% and 25% of 1RM) were used and each resistance load was added to a base of 60% of 1RM free weights. Twelve recreationally trained male athletes participated. They were familiarized with the elastic resistance bands before measurements were taken. Each participant performed one set (three repetitions) at each specific intensity level. A GymAware analyzer measured the variables of force, velocity, and power during each full lift. Peak vertical ground reaction force (VGRF), average bar velocity, and peak rate of force development (RFD) were analyzed during four different conditions of various proportions of chains and constant resistance at 60% of each participants’ 1-repetition maximum (1RM) matched at the top of the lift. The four conditions included 60% of 1RM with no chains (NC), 60% of 1RM with chains accounting for 15% of total load (C15), 60% of 1RM with chains accounting for 30% of total load (C30), and 60% of 1RM with chains accounting for 45% of total load (C45). Ten resistance trained athletes, six males (21.2 ± 2.3 y, 175.5±7.1 cm, 80.8 ± 11.8 kg) and four females (20.3 ± 0.5 y, 163.8 ± 7.6 cm, 75.4 ± 15.6 kg), volunteered for the study. Book excerpt: Enhancement of specific muscular performance characteristics may be achieved through the application of resistance training-based exercises. The objective of this study was to examine the acute effects of maximal isometric contractions during different deadlift positions on subsequent maximal concentric jump in recreationally trained subjects. Utilizing a randomized counterbalanced approach; 15 healthy recreationally-trained male subjects (24.7 ± 3.5 years) performed maximal isometric contractions held in two different deadlift positions with respect to their lower limb height. A brief rest period then followed prior to performing a trial of MCJs to assess concentric jump height performance. Results showed increases in peak power and impulse following the maximal isometric contractions when the deadlift position was held at 75% of the subject's lower limb height. These findings suggests that the effects of the maximal isometric contractions performed in this deadlift position enhanced subsequent concentric jump performance.
