Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Active Footsteps This book is biographical: is written to portray the career of the author. The style preferred is of the third person, that, as much as possible, the ego might be hidden. The statements are facts, as they have occurred in most original methods of conducting business. NO method of doing busi ness by man would be considered original; as he is in possession of all the avenues of influence, he can exploit land and sea, and practice most doubtful methods of procuring a livelihood, with out question so far as a matter of taste is 'con cerned, and all too frequently without regard to principle. The brainiest woman living is sup posed to do nothing only what she is expected to do, as her training has been in the interests of a dominant class. For the flattering of man's vanities it is reiterated, time without end, that any woman who will conduct herself properly can travel anywhere in the United States of America without molestation. As the poor darkey said to the judge, The facts in this case are not true. Women need to give this subject attention in theto be constantly coached in the interests of a dominant class. Women of sense will not become the tools of the vicious, but a fool can be coached without knowing the object of the schemer. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite its fascinating cast of characters, host of combats large and small, and its impact on the course of the Civil War, surprisingly little ink has been spilled on the conflictÕs final months in the Carolinas. Resisting Sherman: A Confederate SurgeonÕs Journal and the Civil War in the Carolinas, 1865, by Francis Marion Robertson (edited by Thomas H. Robertson, Jr.) fills in many of the gaps and adds tremendously to our knowledge of this region and those troubled final days of the Confederacy. Surgeon Francis Robertson fled Charleston with the Confederate garrison in 1865 in an effort to stay ahead of General ShermanÕs Federal army as it marched north from Savannah. The Southern high command was attempting to reinforce General Joseph E. JohnstonÕs force in North Carolina for a last-ditch effort to defeat Sherman and perhaps join with General Lee in Virginia, or at least gain better terms for surrender. Dr. Robertson, a West Pointer, physician, professor, politician, patrician, and Presbyterian with five sons in the Confederate army, kept a daily journal for the final three months of the Civil War while traveling more than 900 miles through four states. His account looks critically at the decisions of generals from a middle ranking officerÕs viewpoint, describes army movements from a ground level perspective, and places the military campaign within the everyday events of average citizens suffering under the boot of war. Editor and descendant Thomas Robertson followed in his ancestorÕs footsteps, conducting exhaustive research to identify the people, route, and places mentioned in the journal. Sidebars on a wide variety of related issues include coverage of politics and the Battle of Averasboro, where one of the surgeonÕs sons was shot. An extensive introduction covers the military situation in and around Charleston that led to the evacuation described so vividly by Surgeon Robertson, and an epilogue summarizes what happened to the diary characters after the war.

Book Growth Hacking a How to Guide on Becoming a Growth Hacker

Download or read book Growth Hacking a How to Guide on Becoming a Growth Hacker written by Joe Casanova and published by Csnv Books. This book was released on 2013-08-14 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: So, you're interested in growth hacking. Maybe you know a little about it, maybe you've never heard about it, maybe you're the inventor of the term and you're scoping out the competition (hi, Sean!) No matter who you are, you're not looking to make a business grow - it's your looking to make a business erupt like Vesuvius. You're looking to spread like blue jeans and the Beatles - to become an uninterrupted facet of modern life, like automobiles, cable television and Facebook. In the digital age, there is such a proliferation of choice and competition that it is no longer enough for a business to "get people in the door." A consumer can easily try a product, make a snap decision on its relative value, and leave with no more effort than clicking "unsubscribe" to the first auto-drip e-mail that arrives in their inbox. Recent societal and technological developments have introduced an urgent need for online businesses to focus on retention and engagement. The more engaged users are, the more likely they are to refer friends, family, professional contacts and like minded people to their particular community, which in itself organically drives acquisition. This results in a larger user base, which increases engagement and thus retention and referral. This is a concept known as virality, which is the evolution of the concept of "word-of-mouth marketing." Virality is the way that you accomplish that benevolent positive feedback loop. As a growth hacker, virality is what you are about, because you are responsible for driving explosive, exponential growth for a company, a la Twitter, YouTube and Pinterest. Your job is to do the years of work that make something an "overnight success." After the roar of the crowd has subsided and their fickle attention spans start to scan the horizon for the next big thing, it's your job to shake it all up, re-engage them and turn your huge growth gains into a long-term, sustainable user base. This is not marketing. This is not product development. This is not entrepreneurship. This is growth hacking.
