Book Active Contours for Multispectral Images With Non Homogeneous Sub Regions

Download or read book Active Contours for Multispectral Images With Non Homogeneous Sub Regions written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this work, we develop a framework for image segmentation which partitions an image based on the statistics of image intensity where the statistical information is represented as a mixture of probability density functions defined in a multi-dimensional image intensity space. Depending on the method to estimate the mixture density functions, three active contour models are proposed: unsupervised multi-dimensional histogram method, half-supervised multivariate Gaussian mixture density method, and supervised multivariate Gaussian mixture density method. The implementation of active contours is done using level sets. The proposed active contour models show robust segmentation capabilities on images where traditional segmentation methods show poor performance. Also, the proposed methods provide a means of autonomous pattern classification by integrating image segmentation and statistical pattern classification.

Book Robust Image Segmentation using Active Contours Level Set Approaches

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Image segmentation is a fundamental task in image analysis responsible for partitioning an image into multiple sub-regions based on a desired feature. Active contours have been widely used as attractive image segmentation methods because they always produce sub-regions with continuous boundaries, while the kernel-based edge detection methods, e.g. Sobel edge detectors, often produce discontinuous boundaries. The use of level set theory has provided more flexibility and convenience in the implementation of active contours. However, traditional edge-based active contour models have been applicable to only relatively simple images whose sub-regions are uniform without internal edges. A partial solution to the problem of internal edges is to partition an image based on the statistical information of image intensity measured within sub-regions instead of looking for edges. Although representing an image as a piecewise-constant or unimodal probability density functions produces better results than traditional edge-based methods, the performances of such methods is still poor on images with sub-regions consisting of multiple components, e.g. a zebra on the field. The segmentation of this kind of multispectral images is even a more difficult problem. The object of this work is to develop advanced segmentation methods which provide robust performance on the images with non-uniform sub-regions. In this work, we propose a framework for image segmentation which partitions an image based on the statistics of image intensity where the statistical information is represented as a mixture of probability density functions defined in a multi-dimensional image intensity space. Depending on the method to estimate the mixture density functions, three active contour models are proposed: unsupervised multi-dimensional histogram method, half-supervised multivariate Gaussian mixture density method, and supervised multivariate Gaussian mixture density method. Book Non local Active Contours

Download or read book Non local Active Contours written by Vikram VijayanBabu Appia and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis deals with image segmentation problems that arise in various computer vision related fields such as medical imaging, satellite imaging, video surveillance, recognition and robotic vision. More specifically, this thesis deals with a special class of image segmentation technique called Snakes or Active Contour Models. In active contour models, image segmentation is posed as an energy minimization problem, where an objective energy function (based on certain image related features) is defined on the segmenting curve (contour). Typically, a gradient descent energy minimization approach is used to drive the initial contour towards a minimum for the defined energy. The drawback associated with this approach is that the contour has a tendency to get stuck at undesired local minima caused by subtle and undesired image features/edges. Thus, active contour based curve evolution approaches are very sensitive to initialization and noise. The central theme of this thesis is to develop techniques that can make active contour models robust against certain classes of local minima by incorporating global information in energy minimization. These techniques lead to energy minimization with global considerations; we call these models -- 'Non-local active contours'. In this thesis, we consider three widely used active contour models: 1) Edge- and region-based segmentation model, 2) Prior shape knowledge based segmentation model, and 3) Motion segmentation model. We analyze the traditional techniques used for these models and establish the need for robust models that avoid local minima. We address the local minima problem for each model by adding global image considerations.

Book Computer Vision ECCV 2002

Download or read book Computer Vision ECCV 2002 written by Anders Heyden and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-08-02 with total page 935 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Premiering in 1990 in Antibes, France, the European Conference on Computer Vision, ECCV, has been held biennially at venues all around Europe. These conferences have been very successful, making ECCV a major event to the computer vision community. ECCV 2002 was the seventh in the series. The privilege of organizing it was shared by three universities: The IT University of Copenhagen, the University of Copenhagen, and Lund University, with the conference venue in Copenhagen. These universities lie ̈ geographically close in the vivid Oresund region, which lies partly in Denmark and partly in Sweden, with the newly built bridge (opened summer 2000) crossing the sound that formerly divided the countries. We are very happy to report that this year’s conference attracted more papers than ever before, with around 600 submissions. Still, together with the conference board, we decided to keep the tradition of holding ECCV as a single track conference. Each paper was anonymously refereed by three different reviewers. For the nal selection, for the rst time for ECCV, a system with area chairs was used. These met with the program chairsinLundfortwodaysinFebruary2002toselectwhatbecame45oralpresentations and 181 posters. Also at this meeting the selection was made without knowledge of the authors’identity.

Book excerpt: This book presents most recent research studies on mapping and spatial analysis of socio-economic and environmental indicators used by various national and international contributors to regional development projects. It gathers the best contributions to the 1st International Conference on Mapping and Spatial Analysis of Socio-Economic and Environmental Indicators for the Local and Regional Sustainable Development. The conference was held in southern Tunisia, Tataouine in March 2015.The research studies focused on generating and analyzing indicators in various domains of Agriculture, Energy, Industry, Tourism, Transport, Urban Planning, Exploitation of Natural Resources, Infrastructure, Health, Environment, Education, Information and Communication Technologies, Social Affairs and Employability, and Culture and Sport. Socio-economic and environmental indicators are important in regional development plans and strategies as they allow to observe and analyze changes in the economic growth and to measure their impact on the environment and on social networks/daily life of citizens. On the basis of well-defined geomatic approaches, and particularly, through sophisticated digital mapping and spatio-temporal analyses, authors focused on retrieving indicators to evaluate the exploitation rate of natural resources, intensity of the energy consumption in various economic sector, net migratory flows, quality checking of the air in urban areas, adaptation to climate change, and vulnerability of the coastal domain and risk of marine submersion due to sea-level rise. The book is of interest not only to investors and contributors to regional development projects, but also to all relevant policy makers.

Book Advanced Microsystems for Automotive Applications 2008

Download or read book Advanced Microsystems for Automotive Applications 2008 written by Jürgen Valldorf and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-04-16 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the total number of vehicles steadily increasing and soon approaching one billion, the world is facing serious challenges in terms of both safety of road transport and sustainability. Consequently the two major persistent issues for the automotive industry are improved safety and reduced emissions. The estimated number of road fatalities is about one million per year. Fast growth of mobility in the developing world and an accelerated urbanisation pose high demands to the automotive industry. Thanks to smart systems anticipating dangerous traffic situations road fatalities will have dropped by more than 30% from 2001 to 2010. Beyond intensive stock-rearing – with 30% the major contributor to climate change – road traffic is one of the main sectors contributing to climate change: exhaust gases from vehicle engines account for about 20% of the greenhouse gas emissions. Car industry is bearing this challenge and enormous progress has been achieved particularly during the last decade.
