Book Acres of Diamonds with a Biography of the Author by Robert Shackleton

Download or read book Acres of Diamonds with a Biography of the Author by Robert Shackleton written by Russell Conwell and published by Digireads.com. This book was released on 2017-12-16 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: American Baptist minister and lawyer, Russell Conwell was the founder and first President of Temple University who is probably best remembered for his inspirational speech "Acres of Diamonds," in which he puts forth the idea that one need not look elsewhere for opportunity, but rather all the resources for achieving success exist in one's own backyard. This idea is exemplified in the parable of a man who sells his farm and abandons his family in search of diamonds. His journey takes him far and wide but without success and ultimately defeated by his failure flings himself into the ocean. Later it is discovered that the farm he has sold has a wealth of diamonds below its soil. Additionally in this lecture Conwell asserts his belief that it is not impious to be wealthy for it is not money which is the root of all evil but the love of money above all else. Contained in this little volume is that inspirational speech, "Acres of Diamonds," along with a short biography of Conwell by Robert Shackleton, and an autobiographical essay on his life as an orator by Conwell himself. This edition is printed on premium acid-free paper.

He is best remembered as the founder and first president of Temple University in Philadelphia, as the Pastor of The Baptist Temple, and for his inspirational lecture, "Acres of Diamonds". The original inspiration for "Acres of Diamonds", his most famous essay, occurred in 1869 when Conwell was traveling in the Middle East. The work began as a speech, "at first given," wrote Conwell in 1913, "before a reunion of my old comrades of the Forty-sixth Massachusetts Regiment, which served in the Civil War and in which I was captain." It was first published in book form in 1890 by the John Y. Huber Company of Philadelphia.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Acres of Diamonds - Complete New Edition. 'An amazing and powerful book' 'Life, success, money' By Russell H. Conwell. Founder Of Temple University Philadelphia. His Life And Achievement By Robert Shackleton. With an Autobiographical Note. THOUGH Russell H. Conwell's Acres of Diamonds have been spread all over the United States, time and care have made them more valuable, and now that they have been reset in black and white by their discoverer, they are to be laid in the hands of a multitude for their enrichment. In the same case with these gems there is a fascinating story of the Master Jeweler's life-work which splendidly illustrates the ultimate unit of power by showing what one man can do in one day and what one life is worth to the world. As his neighbor and intimate friend in Philadelphia for thirty years, I am free to say that Russell H. Conwell's tall, manly figure stands out in the state of Pennsylvania as its first citizen and "The Big Brother" of its seven millions of people. From the beginning of his career he has been a credible witness in the Court of Public Works to the truth of the strong language of the New Testament Parable where it says, "If ye have faith as a grain of mustard-seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, 'Remove hence to yonder place, ' AND IT SHALL REMOVE AND NOTHING SHALL BE IMPOSSIBLE UNTO YOU." As a student, schoolmaster, lawyer, preacher, organizer, thinker and writer, lecturer, educator, diplomat, and leader of men, he has made his mark on his city and state and the times in which he has lived. A man dies, but his good work lives. His ideas, ideals, and enthusiasms have inspired tens of thousands of lives. A book full of the energetics of a master workman is just what every young man cares for. 1915. {signature}

Download or read book Acres of Diamonds by Russell H Conwell written by Russell H. Conwell and published by . This book was released on 2014-09-21 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Includes Conwell's 'Acres of Diamonds' and Robert Shackleton's 'His Life and Achievements'. 'Acres of Diamonds' is a lecture that Russell Conwell, founder of Temple University, delivered more than 6,000 times across the country. Through this lecture, Conwell debunks the idea that it is noble to be poor, an idea that far too many Christians share. He illustrates that it is our duty as Christians to use our gifts to honestly earn riches, because you can do more good with riches than without. Conwell successfully illustrates the difference between the popular expression 'money is the root of all evil' and the complete Biblical passage which states 'the love of money is the root of all evil'. The love of money is idolatry, but money itself is neither good nor evil. It is simply a tool which may be used for either good or evil. In these pages we learn the virtues of earning money through honest, hard work. We learn to look for opportunities to serve others in our own back yard by simply finding a need and filling it. If you wish to be great, begin with who you are right now, where you are right now. Follow these principles, and you will uncover your own acres of diamonds. Larry Hehn, Author of 'Get the Prize: Nine Keys for a Life of Victory'.
