Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learn the right questions to ask when considering the creation, maintenance, and policy needs of the A.V. collection! A.V. in Public and School Libraries guides librarians through the development of an A.V. policy by addressing special aspects of A.V. in the 90s such as censorship, cataloging, costs, and acquisition policy dilemmas. Audio-visual material use is soaring in the public and school library environment, yet some video collections are being developed haphazardly as libraries select new materials based on policy statements written for print materials. The staff of any library that is starting or adding to an A.V. collection will benefit from this insightful overview of the video collection that addresses future trends, patron use patterns, collection development tools, and development of written policies. Some of the special issues concerning the A.V. collection addressed in this book include: charging fees for borrowing videos censorship issues--should children have access to R and NC--17 rated videos? video collections in a small public library collections of audio books teaching youth how to judge A.V. information critically recommended videos for establishing a children's video collection how secondary school students can benefit from A.V. instructional media Video acquisitions librarians, A.V. librarians, and librarians in small- and medium-sized libraries who are responsible for policymaking regarding the video collection will benefit from this practical advice on developing basic collections, creating collection tools, copyright issues, and decisions based on quality versus popularity of materials. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While complementing other volumes in the BTL series in its exploration of the state of the art of translator training, this collection of essays is solely focused on audiovisual translation, one of the most complex and dynamic areas of the translation discipline. The book offers an easily accessible yet comprehensive introduction to the fascinating subject of translating films, video games and other audiovisual material. Offering a balance between theory and practice, the main aim of this volume is to provide a wealth of teaching and learning ideas in areas such as subtitling, dubbing, and voice-over without forgetting the newer fields of subtitling for the deaf and audio description for the blind. The Didactics of Audiovisual Translation comes with an accompanying CD-Rom, highlighting its fundamentally interactive approach, and the activities proposed can be adapted to different learning environments and used with different language combinations.

Book Audiovisual Translation in Applied Linguistics

Download or read book Audiovisual Translation in Applied Linguistics written by Laura Incalcaterra McLoughlin and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2020-11-15 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, interest in the application of audiovisual translation (AVT) techniques in language teaching has grown beyond unconnected case studies to create a lively network of methodological intertextuality, cross-references, reviews and continuation of previous trials, ultimately defining a recognisable and scalable trend. Whilst the use of AVT as a support in language teaching is not new, this volume looks at a different application of AVT, with learners involved in the audiovisual translation process itself, performing tasks such as subtitling, dubbing, or audio describing. It therefore presents a sample of the current research in this field, with particular reference to case studies that either have a large-scale or international dimension, or can be scaled and replicated in various contexts. It is our hope that these contributions will arouse the interest of publishers of language learning material and other stakeholders and ultimately lead to the mainstreaming of AVT in language education.
