Book New Insights on Acne Rosacea and Hidradenitis Suppurativa

Download or read book New Insights on Acne Rosacea and Hidradenitis Suppurativa written by Hei Sung Kim and published by . This book was released on 2024-03-06 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Special Issue focuses on the coping strategies of patients with hidradenitis suppurativa, which is of paramount importance but at the same time often overlooked. Biologics have been introduced for the disease and may be a viable option in those with severe hidradenitis suppurativa. Skin care is extremely important in managing patients with acne and rosacea who often have sensitive skin due to skin inflammation and vigorous treatment. Optimal cosmetic products for acne and rosacea and novel treatment options such as oxybrasion and cryotherapy in managing acne are presented. Truncal acne is common, but less interest has been taken in this subtype as it is not openly seen. Unlike facial acne, truncal acne can develop into hypertrophic scars and needs early intervention. In addition to C. acnes, fungi such as Malassezia are thought to be involved in the pathogenesis of truncal acne. An overview of truncal acne and new methods of improvement for acne scars are also discussed in this reprint. Last but not least, the immunologic background in acne pathogenesis is reviewed which will help readers better understand the complex mechanism of acne development.

Download or read book Hidradenitis Suppurativa written by Jace Cooper and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2024-01-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Acne Inversa, or hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), is a persistent skin ailment characterized by the development of painful, inflamed lumps or abscesses in places of the body where skin rubs together, such as the armpits, groin, buttocks, and beneath the breasts. Tunnels or tracts under the skin may form if these bumps burst and drain pus. A person's quality of life can be drastically reduced by the suffering caused by HS. - Inflammation of the hair follicles and sweat glands is thought to be at the root of hidradenitis suppurativa, although the condition's exact etiology remains unknown. Several variables, including genetics, hormones, and lifestyle, may contribute to its development. Because HS is a long-term illness, symptoms may come and go at different times. Hidradenitis suppurativa typically presents with the following symptoms: 1. Bumpy, tender, red, and puffy skin conditions. 2. The creation of abscesses that can rupture and outflow pus. 3. The formation of subcutaneous passages or tunnels. 4. The affected areas include thicker skin and scarring. 5. The occurrence of frequent attacks. The pain and suffering of hidradenitis suppurativa, together with the risk of recurring infections and scarring, can have a major influence on a person's quality of life. Modifications to one's way of life, antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, and, in extreme situations, surgical removal of afflicted tissue may all be used to treat HS. A dermatologist or other qualified medical practitioner should be consulted for advice on management and therapy, since they may tailor their care to the severity of the problem and the specific requirements of each patient.
