Book Database and Expert Systems Applications

Download or read book Database and Expert Systems Applications written by Abdelkader Hameurlain and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-08-02 with total page 970 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: th 2002 DEXA, the 13 International Conference on Database and Expert Systems Applications was held on September 2–6, 2002, at the Université Aix–Marseille II, France. The quickly growing field of information systems required the establishment of more specialized discussion platforms (the DaWaK conference, EC-Web conference, eGOV conference and DEXA workshops), and there were held in parallel with DEXA, also in Aix-en-Provence. The resulting book was prepared with great effort. Starting with the preparation of submitted papers, the papers went through the reviewing process. The accepted papers were revised to final versions by their authors and arranged to the conference program. This year 241 papers were submitted and our thanks go to all who have contributed. The program committee and the supporting reviewers produced altogether about 730 referee reports, on average three reports per paper, and selected 89 papers for presentation. The papers presented here encompass the extensive domain of databases; together with the other conferences and workshops of the DEXA event cluster a vast part of applied computer science was covered. In this way DEXA has blazed the trail. At this point we would like to acknowledge to all institutions which actively supported this conference and made it possible. These are: • IUT (Université Aix – Marseille II), • FAW, • DEXA Association, • the Austrian Computer Society, • and Microsoft Research

Book Reactive Data Structures for Geographic Information Systems

Download or read book Reactive Data Structures for Geographic Information Systems written by Peter van Oosterom and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is the first to describe techniques for the storage and manipulation of geographic data at multiple scales and in an integrated manner, thus avoiding the redundancies of other techniques. The book opens with a general introduction to Geographic Information Systems. It then goes on to give an overview of the known spatial access methods and presents several new structures: multi-object BSP-tree, KD2B-tree, sphere-tree, BLG-tree, reactive BSP-tree, and reactive-tree. The reactive BSP-tree and reactive-tree are geometric structures which take multiple levels of detail into account. They are reactive data structures which form the basis of a seamless, scaleless, geographic database. The work goes on to describe two advanced GIS architecture types: the geographic relational extension and the object-oriented (OO) approach. Actual implementations are presented as well as theoretical discussion of the systems. GEO++ is based on the open research DBMS Postgres and realizes the geographic relational extension. In the OO programming language, Procol, persistent objects are introduced in order to combine the powerful OO modelling with the database functionality required for GISs. An up-to-date reference for a rapidly developing field, the book will benefit all researchers and practitioners using or developing geographic information systems.

Book Geographic Information Science

Download or read book Geographic Information Science written by Thomas J. Cova and published by Springer. This book was released on 2008-09-22 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The GIScience conference series was founded in 2000 with the goal of providing a forum for researchers interested in advancing the fundamental aspects of the prod- tion, dissemination, and use of geographic information. The conference is held bi- nually and attracts people from academia, industry, and government across a host of disciplines including cognitive science, computer science, engineering, geography, information science, mathematics, philosophy, psychology, social science, and stat- tics. Following a very successful conference in Münster, Germany in 2006, this year’s conference was held in Park City, Utah, USA, the prior site of the 2002 Winter Ol- pics and home to the annual Sundance Film Festival. There are two forms of submission to the conference: full papers of 6000 words or less and extended abstracts of 500-1000 words for either a presentation or poster. This format was originally designed to capture the cultural difference between researchers who prefer to publish a peer-reviewed conference paper and those who would rather submit an abstract covering work in progress. This year 77 full papers were submitted and reviewed by 3 Program Committee members, of which 24 were selected for pr- entation and inclusion in this volume. Of the 115 extended abstracts that were subm- ted and reviewed by 2 Program Committee members, 47 were accepted for an oral presentation and 25 were accepted for presentation as a poster. The abstracts were published in a second booklet and are available on the GIScience website (http://www. giscience. org).
