This book was released on 2018-03-26 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from History of the Class of 1912, Yale College, Vol. 1 The Class of 1912 has completed its preparatory life - the first stage in every man's career. Thus far we have traveled about the same path as that taken by all the sons of Yale preceding us. We have been about as green as previous Freshmen and attained the dignity and honor of previous Seniors. Our future life has been fortified by failures, experienced and powerfully strengthened by ties of friendship which time can never rend asunder. F rom this moment our paths separate as each man strives to. Gain the goal of his ambi tion. What success we of 1912 are to attain as individuals and what permanent imprint we are to leave upon the world to distinguish us from other classes, the next forty years will determine. As time progresses may each one of us warm both hands before the fire of life, and further, may it be said of us as Lincoln wished it might be said of him, that he plucked a weed and planted a flower, where he thought a flower would grow. This book was released on 2016-09-14 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Quarter-Century Record of the Class of Eighteen-Eighty-Seven, Yale College: 1887 1912 The unwritten law requires that somewhere between the covers of an '87 Class report there shall be found a bird's-eye View of the Class as a whole, showing its collective progress, its place in the greater army of Yale men, suggesting who wear the uniforms of commissioned and non - commissioned officers and how those men who march in the ranks meet the brunt of battle and the fatigue of the hike. The ranks of our division of the Yale army are not as full as they were in 1887, for there have fallen by the way nineteen and three-tenths per cent of all those who started-together from Center Church in June of that year. In other words, of the one hundred and fifty graduates, twenty-nine are known to have died, and one hundred and twenty-one are enrolled as living members. This book was released on 2018-02-21 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Sexennial Record of the Class of 1904, Yale College It is With no little hesitation that I attempt to write What has here been called a preface, because an introduction seems to me somewhat out of place in a book, the purpose and character of Which are already known to all of you and the contents of Which are substantially your work - my duty having been but to record and arrange such data as you have sent to me. I Will, however, appreciate your attention to a few general words about the work of the Class Secretary before you pass on to a record of achievements by members of our Class, Which I sincerely trust will prove as interesting and inspiring to you as they have to me. You Will remember that I was elected to the office of Class Secretary nearly three years ago, and I must confess that at that time I accepted the position With considerable feeling of doubt as to the pleasantness of the duties Which it demanded, and I remained in that state of mind until many letters of encouragement and support received in reply to my first appeal for infor mation removed any such feeling on my part and have more than repaid me in many ways for any time and thought that I have given in preparing this Record. It is true that a few men have never responded to any letters sent to them. Several others of the Class delayed their replies until they had been appealed to three and four times. If I have any criticisms to make it is of those men on Whose account the work has at times dragged and been made somewhat dis couraging. Of course, it is but thoughtlessness, but I Will feel that I have done much if those Who have been delinquent in the past Will from now on realize that the work of the Secretary is not one of short hours; that his success, Whoever he may be, is measured by the completeness of his Records. Download or read book Vicennial Record of the Class of 1887 written by George E. Hill and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Vicennial Record of the Class of 1887: In Yale College To the Class: Thanks to those who have aided in the preparation of this book, and regret that its appearance has been so long delayed, are the two thoughts which demand expression in this, the last word for the Vicennial Report. The delay, I take wholly upon my own shoulders, extenuating my fault only by reference to a large number of calls upon my time and other personal reasons connected with my business. The forbearance of the Class I have always relied upon and have never been disappointed. Even now, its pages would not have been ready for your perusal had it not been for the devoted labors of William Savage Burns, who, with diligence, skill, and cheerful sacrifice of time has done a very large part of the work of preparation of the biographies. The Bibliography is entirely his work and represents much labor in the best libraries within reach. To him I extend the most hearty thanks of the Class and myself. Without enumerating them, I also wish to thank others of the Class, who, by written and spoken suggestion, and by supplying the photographs from which many of the illustrations are reproduced, have contributed much to make the book what it is. Who some of them are, will be apparent from a perusal of the pages which follow. It will be noticed that the biographical sketches have been made more complete than in former reports, by the addition of information concerning parentage, preparation for college, relationship and other facts dating back of entrance to college. While these items may not add very largely to the present interest of the Report, it is hoped that they will add to its value as a permanent record. Download or read book History of the Class of 1910 Vol 1 written by Yale University Class and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-07 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from History of the Class of 1910, Vol. 1: Yale College It is not unusual for a class history to be a mere eulogy of its members. It will be prefaced perhaps by laudatory remarks hailing the new class, even in its earliest appearance as Freshmen, as the greatest that has ever come to Yale. To greet 1910 in a similar way, however, would be not only conventional but also bromidic. Too many have already sung its praises to add unneces sary comment. Let its records as narrated in these pages stand for themselves. Such modesty is but a shield to cover our own personal opinions, to which we all assuredly have a right, and first among our retrospective thoughts is that September 26, 1906, will always stand out conspicuously in the annals of Yale; for it was on that day the Class of 1910 made its advent to New Haven. This book was released on 2018-05-02 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from History of the Class of 1911, Yale College, Vol. 1 These Titanic struggles, which took place in a ring encircled by row upon row of excited, derisive, and sympathetic classmates and upper classmen, called forth the ablest gladiatorial talent from both our ranks and those of the Sophomores\ The college walls even now faintly re-echo the wild paeans of conquest with which our triumphant class rent the startled, tobacco-ridden air, when victory folded her airy pinions and alighted on our standards. Bartlett won over Sweeney; and although Livingston lost to Bradley, the mettle of 1911 when first tried was not found wanting, when Bill Prime overthrew Roberts in the final bout. In this victory the class of 1911 had taken the first step in its triumphant march toward the exalted position it later occupied in the college world. This book was released on 2016-12-22 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from History of the Class of 1906, Yale College, Vol. 2 I heard it said that far away from here, on the wrong side of the deserts of Cathay and in a country dedicate to winter, are all the years that are dead. And there a certain valley shuts them in and hides them, as rumor has it, from the world, but not from the sight of the moon nor from those that dream in his rays. And I said: I will go from here by ways of dream, and I will come to that valley and enter in and mourn there for the good years that are dead. And I said: I will take a wreath, a wreath of mourning, and lay it at their feet in token of my sorrow for their dooms. And when I sought about among the owers, among the owers for my wreath of mourning, the lily looked too large and the laurel looked too solemn, and I found nothing frail enough nor slender to serve as an offering to the years that were dead. And at last I made a slender wreath of daisies in the manner that I had seen them made in one of the years that is dead. This, said I, is scarce less fragile or less frail than one of those deli cate, forgotten years. Then I took my wreath in my hand and went from here. And when I had come by paths of mystery to that romantic land where the valley that rumor told of lies close to the mountainous moon, I searched among the grass for those poor slight years for whom I brought my sorrow and my wreath. And when I found there nothing in the grass, I said: Time has shattered them and swept them away and left not even any faint remains. Download or read book History of the Class of 1903 written by Ziegler Sargent and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-16 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from History of the Class of 1903: Yale College The material for the following pages has been gathered in leisure moments during the past three years, most of it since November 1905, when the Class was formally notified of what was required. The response to the editor's calls has been gener ous and prompt, and the letters, too numerous for individual acknowledgment, expressing appreciation of the work in hand have lightened a burden that might easily have become irksome. Where possible a man's own account of his doings since under graduate days has been quoted from his class letter. The editor has tried to exercise care in these citations and asks you to be charitable about errors of judgment. Thanks are here extended to the authors of the contributed articles and obituary sketches. Outside of the Class, much assistance has been rendered by Mr. Clarence S. Day, Ir., Secretary of the Class of '96, and by Mr. Everard J. Thompson, of the Y ale Alumni Weekly, who besides other courtesies loaned the cut of Connecticut Hall. In the selection of illustrations the endeavor has been made to recall a few familiar scenes and to indicate some of Yale's outward changes since the graduation of 1903. The double page Trien nial pictures were made by Mr. Robert Keep Clark. An asterisk before a name denotes decease.
