En 1941, el mismo Instituto reanuda sus actividades y comprende la importancia de seguir transmitiendo los conocimientos e innovaciones resultantes de sus actuaciones mediante una publicación técnica específica de la construcción. Aparecen entonces los Anales del Instituto Técnico de la Construcción y Edificación , que se publican cada año hasta 1946, en que dicho Instituto se adhiere al Patronato Juan de la Cierva del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), pasando a ser un centro público de investigación en construcción, que se mantiene hasta nuestros días. No obstante, dos años después, hace ahora 60, se reanuda la actividad difusora del Instituto con una nueva publicación periódica, la revista Informes de la construcción , que se puede entender como la continuación de Hormigón y Acero y los Anales , y que se ha mantenido sin interrupción estos 12 lustros.

Book excerpt: En este capítulo se exponen los conceptos de capa pasiva y sus propiedades en la protección frente a la corrosión. De forma paralela, se evalúa el papel de los elementos aleantes en la microestructura de los aceros inoxidables, correlacionando este hecho con la resistencia frente a la corrosión y, por tanto, la durabilidad de las estructuras de hormigón armado con refuerzos corrugados de acero inoxidable. Se hace referencia, por otro lado, a la influencia de la temperatura en el límite crítico admisible de cloruros. Finalmente, se expone el buen comportamiento del acero inoxidable en casos en los cuales puedan originarse pares galvánicos, siendo una particularidad la limitada actividad catódica de los aceros inoxidables, la cual los hace materiales de refuerzo especialmente útiles para su aplicación en proyectos de reparación y para un uso "inteligente" en estructuras nuevas mixtas, donde el inoxidable se utilizaría sólo en las áreas potencialmente más sensibles. Cuando una parte del refuerzo corroído, por ejemplo, cerca de la superficie de hormigón, se va a reemplazar, podría ser ventajoso utilizar acero inoxidable en lugar de acero al carbono. Al ser un pobre cátodo, el acero inoxidable minimizaría los posibles problemas que pueden ocurrir en el refuerzo de acero al carbono colindante, en estado pasivo después de la reparación.
