Download or read book Nuclear Materials for Fission Reactors written by H. Matzke and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume brings together 47 papers from scientists involved in the fabrication of new nuclear fuels, in basic research of nuclear materials, their application and technology as well as in computer codes and modelling of fuel behaviour. The main emphasis is on progress in the development of non-oxide fuels besides reporting advances in the more conventional oxide fuels. The two currently performed large reactor safety programmes CORA and PHEBUS-FP are described in invited lectures. The contributions review basic property measurements, as well as the present state of fuel performance modelling. The performance of today's nuclear fuel, hence UO2, at high burnup is also reviewed with particular emphasis on the recently observed phenomenon of grain subdivision in the cold part of the oxide fuel at high burnup, the so-called "rim" effect. Similar phenomena can be simulated by ion implantation in order to better elucidate the underlying mechanism and reviews on high resolution electron microscopy provide further information. The papers will provide a useful treatise of views, ideas and new results for all those scientists and engineers involved in the specific questions of current nuclear waste management.

Download or read book Pressurized Water Reactors written by Yurugi Kanzaki and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2024-07-08 with total page 507 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pressurized Water Reactors, Volume Three in the JSME Series on Thermal and Nuclear Power Generation, compiles the latest research on Pressurized Water Reactors (PWRs) into a very comprehensive reference, beginning with its history. The reader is then guided through optimum design processes for PWRs, considering safety throughout. The authors then discuss thermal-hydraulic aspects within the PWR system and inside the reactor core, making this a valuable resource for nuclear and thermal engineers and researchers. Combining their wealth of experience, the book presents in-depth knowledge on the advancement and improvement of fuel rods that is gleaned from decades of experience and lessons learned. The inclusion of analysis codes for the design and safety elements ensure makes this a unique reference which will provide the reader with a solid understanding which they can transfer to their own professional and research settings. Future prospects for next generation PWR and Small Modular Reactors are also discussed, giving the reader a basis for further research of their own. - Contains contributions from the leaders and pioneers in nuclear research at the Japanese Society of Mechanical Engineers and draws upon their combined wealth of knowledge and experience - Includes analysis codes, such as RELAP5, for the design and safety improvement of pressurized water reactors (PWRs) - Presents history, examples, and case studies from Japan and other key regions, such as the United States and Europe

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A long established reference book: radical revision for the fifteenth edition includes complete rearrangement to take in chapters on new topics and regroup the subjects covered for easy access to information. The Electrical Engineer's Reference Book, first published in 1945, maintains its original aims: to reflect the state of the art in electrical science and technology and cater for the needs of practising engineers. Most chapters have been revised and many augmented so as to deal properly with both fundamental developments and new technology and applications that have come to the fore since the fourteenth edition was published (1985). Topics covered by new chapters or radically updated sections include: * digital and programmable electronic systems * reliability analysis * EMC * power electronics * fundamental properties of materials * optical fibres * maintenance in power systems * electroheat and welding * agriculture and horticulture * aeronautic transportation * health and safety * procurement and purchasing * engineering economics

Download or read book Advances in Nuclear Science and Technology written by Jeffery Lewins and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-04-18 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some countries have moved beyond the design and operation of nuclear electricity generating systems to confronting the issue of nuclear waste disposal, whole others are still committed to further nuclear facility construction. Volume 24 chronicles these key developments and examines nuclear reactor accidents at Chernobyl, Bhopal, and TMI. The text also analyzes current international knowledge of neutron interactions; deterministic methods based on mean values for assessing radiation distributions; practical applications of the TIBERE models to explicit computation of leakage terms in realistic reactor geometry; and a technique to deal with the issues of finance, risk assessment, and public perception.

Download or read book Comprehensive Nuclear Materials written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2020-07-22 with total page 4871 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Materials in a nuclear environment are exposed to extreme conditions of radiation, temperature and/or corrosion, and in many cases the combination of these makes the material behavior very different from conventional materials. This is evident for the four major technological challenges the nuclear technology domain is facing currently: (i) long-term operation of existing Generation II nuclear power plants, (ii) the design of the next generation reactors (Generation IV), (iii) the construction of the ITER fusion reactor in Cadarache (France), (iv) and the intermediate and final disposal of nuclear waste. In order to address these challenges, engineers and designers need to know the properties of a wide variety of materials under these conditions and to understand the underlying processes affecting changes in their behavior, in order to assess their performance and to determine the limits of operation. Comprehensive Nuclear Materials, Second Edition, Seven Volume Set provides broad ranging, validated summaries of all the major topics in the field of nuclear material research for fission as well as fusion reactor systems. Attention is given to the fundamental scientific aspects of nuclear materials: fuel and structural materials for fission reactors, waste materials, and materials for fusion reactors. The articles are written at a level that allows undergraduate students to understand the material, while providing active researchers with a ready reference resource of information. Most of the chapters from the first Edition have been revised and updated and a significant number of new topics are covered in completely new material. During the ten years between the two editions, the challenge for applications of nuclear materials has been significantly impacted by world events, public awareness, and technological innovation. Materials play a key role as enablers of new technologies, and we trust that this new edition of Comprehensive Nuclear Materials has captured the key recent developments. Critically reviews the major classes and functions of materials, supporting the selection, assessment, validation and engineering of materials in extreme nuclear environments Comprehensive resource for up-to-date and authoritative information which is not always available elsewhere, even in journals Provides an in-depth treatment of materials modeling and simulation, with a specific focus on nuclear issues Serves as an excellent entry point for students and researchers new to the field
