Book Proceedings of the Sixth Meeting of the Task Force on Shielding Aspects of Accelerators Targets and Irradiation Facilities

Download or read book Proceedings of the Sixth Meeting of the Task Force on Shielding Aspects of Accelerators Targets and Irradiation Facilities written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Particle accelerators are used today for an increasing range of scientific and technological applications. They are very powerful tools for investigating the origin and structure of matter, and for improving understanding of the interaction of radiation with materials, including the transmutation of nuclides and the beneficial or harmful effects of radiation. Particle accelerators are used to identify properties of molecules that can be used in pharmacy, for medical diagnosis and therapy, and for biophysics studies. Particle accelerators must be operated in safe ways that protect the operators, the population and the environment. New technological and research applications give rise to new issues in radiation shielding. These workshop proceedings review the state of the art in radiation shielding of accelerator facilities and irradiated targets. They also evaluate advancements and discuss the additional developments required to meet radiation protection needs."--OECD

Book Shielding Aspects of Accelerators Targets and Irradiation Facilities SATIF 6

Download or read book Shielding Aspects of Accelerators Targets and Irradiation Facilities SATIF 6 written by NEA Staff and published by OECD Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Particle accelerators are having an increasingly important impact on research, technology and lifestyle. Today they cover a wide range of applications including material science and medical applications. In recent years, requirements from new technological and research applications have emerged and the number of accelerator facilities has significantly increased. Their parameters (such as the beam energy, beam currents and intensities, targets composition, etc.) vary widely giving rise to new radiation shielding aspects and problems. The main objectives of the SATIF Meetings are to: promote the exchange of information among experts in the field of accelerator shielding and related topics; identify areas where international co-operation can be fruitful; and carry on a program of work in order to achieve progress in specific priority areas.

Book Accelerator and Radiation Physics

Download or read book Accelerator and Radiation Physics written by P.K Sarkar and published by ALPHA SCIENCE INTERNATIONAL LIMITED. This book was released on 2012-07-20 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ACCELERATOR AND RADIATION PHYSICS encompasses radiation shielding design and strategies for hadron therapy accelerators, neutron facilities and laser based accelerators. A fascinating article describes detailed transport theory and its application to radiation transport. Detailed information on planning and design of a very high energy proton accelerator can be obtained from the article on radiological safety of J-PARC. Besides safety for proton accelerators, the book provides information on radiological safety issues for electron synchrotron and prevention and preparedness for radiological emergencies. Different methods for neutron dosimetry including LET based monitoring, time of flight spectrometry, track detectors are documented alongwith newly measured experimental data on radiation interaction with dyes, polymers, bones and other materials. Design of deuteron accelerator, shielding in beam line hutches in synchrotron and 14 MeV neutron generator, various radiation detection methods, their characterization, dose mapping procedures and simulation of radiation environment are also discussed.

Book Overview of CSEWG Shielding Benchmark Problems

Download or read book Overview of CSEWG Shielding Benchmark Problems written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fundamental philosophy behind the choosing of CSEWG shielding benchmarks is that the accuracy of a certain range of cross section data be adequately tested. The benchmarks, therefore, consist of measurements and calculations of these measurements. Calculations for which there are no measurements provide little information on the adequacy of the data, although they can perhaps indicate the sensitivity of results to variations in data.
