Book Parallel Computing Accelerating Computational Science and Engineering CSE

Download or read book Parallel Computing Accelerating Computational Science and Engineering CSE written by M. Bader and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2014-03-31 with total page 868 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parallel computing has been the enabling technology of high-end machines for many years. Now, it has finally become the ubiquitous key to the efficient use of any kind of multi-processor computer architecture, from smart phones, tablets, embedded systems and cloud computing up to exascale computers. _x000D_ This book presents the proceedings of ParCo2013 – the latest edition of the biennial International Conference on Parallel Computing – held from 10 to 13 September 2013, in Garching, Germany. The conference focused on several key parallel computing areas. Themes included parallel programming models for multi- and manycore CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs and heterogeneous platforms, the performance engineering processes that must be adapted to efficiently use these new and innovative platforms, novel numerical algorithms and approaches to large-scale simulations of problems in science and engineering._x000D_ The conference programme also included twelve mini-symposia (including an industry session and a special PhD Symposium), which comprehensively represented and intensified the discussion of current hot topics in high performance and parallel computing. These special sessions covered large-scale supercomputing, novel challenges arising from parallel architectures (multi-/manycore, heterogeneous platforms, FPGAs), multi-level algorithms as well as multi-scale, multi-physics and multi-dimensional problems._x000D_ It is clear that parallel computing – including the processing of large data sets (“Big Data”) – will remain a persistent driver of research in all fields of innovative computing, which makes this book relevant to all those with an interest in this field.

Book The Power of Design Build

Download or read book The Power of Design Build written by Sherif Hashem and published by Business Expert Press. This book was released on 2014-09-05 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design-build is a powerful project delivery approach. But how to actuate such power and deliver the design-build promise? This is what this book is all about. It provides the reader with cutting-edge knowledge, know-how, techniques, trade secrets, and best practices to deliver design-build projects in a safe and controlled manner. It covers the entire design-build process— from building the design-build team and winning the designbuild tender competition, to project management, selecting the best design-build solution, and the sound planning of designbuild activities. To this end, the book introduces a totally new and innovative design-build planning methodology, namely, the SAFEDB-methodology. The SAFEDB-methodology consists of three key components: develop design-build solutions, fast-tack design-build activities, and control design-build work progress. The first component is concerned with evaluating candidate design-build options and selecting the most effective design-build solution. The second component looks deep into overlapping design and construction activities and introduces an effective overlapping strategy enabling maximum safe schedule compression. The last methodology component focuses on enhancing the design-build schedule reliability by taking into account potential schedule branching and rework loops in a structured and proactive manner. A range of real-world practical examples of the methodology application are provided for clarity and immediate use by the readers. The book is meant for the design-build contractors, designers, and owners; for the professionals and the academics, those new to the design-build arena or the seasoned design-builders.

Book Optimal Resource Constraint Project Scheduling with Overlapping Modes

Download or read book Optimal Resource Constraint Project Scheduling with Overlapping Modes written by François Berthaut and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Overlapping activities is widely used to accelerate project execution. Overlapping consist in executing in parallel two sequential activities by allowing a downstream activity to start before the end of an upstream activity based on preliminary information. In companies, overlapping is examined in resource constraints scheduling without considering interaction between activities and rework caused by alteration of information exchanged until finalized information is available at the completion of the upstream activity. By contrast, the literature deals with overlapping of couple of activities without considering a whole project with resource constraints. We here investigate the resource-constrained project scheduling problem with different feasible modes of overlapping including associated rework. We formulate the optimization problem as an integer linear programming problem. An example of a 30 activity project is provided to illustrate the utility and efficiency of this model. An optimal solution is reached within reasonable computation time. Our results also highlight the closed interaction between resource constraints and overlapping modes and confirms the relevance of jointly consider them.--Résumé de l'éditeur.

Book Time cost Trade offs in Resource constraint Project Scheduling Problems with Overlapping Modes

Download or read book Time cost Trade offs in Resource constraint Project Scheduling Problems with Overlapping Modes written by François Berthaut and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In companies, overlapping is commonly regarded as a promising strategy to accelerate project execution. Overlapping consists in executing in parallel two sequential activities by allowing a downstream activity to start before the end of an upstream activity based on preliminary information. However, overlapping entails rework in downstream activity caused by alteration of information exchanged until finalized information is available and additional coordination and communication. Rework and coordination/communication require additional resources and costs. We investigate the time-cost tradeoffs in resource-constrained project scheduling problem with different feasible modes of overlapping including rework and coordination/communication. The problem is formulated as a linear integer program. An example of a 30 activity project is provided to illustrate the utility and efficiency of the model. Our results highlight the closed interaction between resource constraints and overlapping modes and confirm the relevance of jointly consider them.--Résumé de l'éditeur.

Book FPGA based Prototyping Methodology Manual

Download or read book FPGA based Prototyping Methodology Manual written by Doug Amos and published by Happy About. This book was released on 2011 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book collects the best practices FPGA-based Prototyping of SoC and ASIC devices into one place for the first time, drawing upon not only the authors' own knowledge but also from leading practitioners worldwide in order to present a snapshot of best practices today and possibilities for the future. The book is organized into chapters which appear in the same order as the tasks and decisions which are performed during an FPGA-based prototyping project. We start by analyzing the challenges and benefits of FPGA-based Prototyping and how they compare to other prototyping methods. We present the current state of the available FPGA technology and tools and how to get started on a project. The FPMM also compares between home-made and outsourced FPGA platforms and how to analyze which will best meet the needs of a given project. The central chapters deal with implementing an SoC design in FPGA technology including clocking, conversion of memory, partitioning, multiplexing and handling IP amongst many other subjects. The important subject of bringing up the design on the FPGA boards is covered next, including the introduction of the real design into the board, running embedded software upon it in and debugging and iterating in a lab environment. Finally we explore how the FPGA-based Prototype can be linked into other verification methodologies, including RTL simulation and virtual models in SystemC. Along the way, the reader will discover that an adoption of FPGA-based Prototyping from the beginning of a project, and an approach we call Design-for-Prototyping, will greatly increase the success of the prototype and the whole SoC project, especially the embedded software portion. Design-for-Prototyping is introduced and explained and promoted as a manifesto for better SoC design. Readers can approach the subjects from a number of directions. Some will be experienced with many of the tasks involved in FPGA-based Prototyping but are looking for new insights and ideas; others will be relatively new to the subject but experienced in other verification methodologies; still others may be project leaders who need to understand if and how the benefits of FPGA-based prototyping apply to their next SoC project. We have tried to make each subject chapter relatively standalone, or where necessary, make numerous forward and backward references between subjects, and provide recaps of certain key subjects. We hope you like the book and we look forward to seeing you on the FPMM on-line community soon (go to www.synopsys.com/fpmm).
