Download or read book International Health Worker Migration and Recruitment written by Nicola Yeates and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-05-13 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first comprehensive study of international health worker-migration and -recruitment from the perspective of global governance, policy and politics. Covering 70 years of history of the development of this global policy field, this book presents new and previously unpublished data, based on primary research, to reveal for the first time that international health worker-migration-and -recruitment have been major concerns of global policy-making going back to the foundations of post-war international cooperation. The authors analyse the policies and programmes of a wide range of international organisations, from WHO, ILO and UNESCO to the IOM, World Bank and OECD, and feature extended analysis of bilateral agreements to manage health worker migration and recruitment, critiquing the claim that they work in the interests of all countries. Yeates’ and Pillinger’s ground-breaking analysis of global governance presents an assiduously researched study showing how the interplay and intersections of several global institutional regimes – spanning labour, migration, health, social protection, trade and business, equality and human rights – shape global policy responses to this major health care issue that affects all countries worldwide. It discusses the growing challenges to public health as a result of the globalisation of health labour markets, and highlights how global and national policy can realise the health and health-related Sustainable Development Goals for all by 2030. This research monograph will be of key interest to students and scholars of Global Governance, Global Public Policy, Global Health, Global Politics, Migration Studies, Health and Social Care, Social Policy and Development Studies. Policy makers and campaign activists, nationally and globally, will appreciate the practical relevance and applications of the research findings.

Download or read book The Global and Social Consequences of the COVID 19 Pandemic written by Gottfried Schweiger and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-30 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book directly addresses the social and economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. It does so by focusing on both the immediate effects during the pandemic and the lockdowns, as well as the issues related to the long-term social consequences that are likely to result from the economic crisis in the coming years. To date, most philosophical essays and books have focused on the health aspects of the pandemic, and in particular on the fields of medical ethics and public health ethics. Containing a truly international and interdisciplinary group of scholars, a unique and global perspective is offered on the rarely discussed social and economic consequences of the pandemic. This book is of great interest to academic philosophers, but also to researchers from the social sciences.

This book was released on 2024-06-03 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Expert Advisory Group on the Relevance and Effectiveness of the WHO Global Code of Practice on the International Recruitment of Health Personnel (the “Code”) was re-convened in 2022 to inform decisions on the update of the Health Workforce Support and Safeguards List (the “list”) published in 2020. The Expert Advisory Group recognized the additional vulnerabilities in health workforce availability and health service coverage in response to the need to maintain essential health services during the COVID-19 pandemic, while also exploring possible additional criteria to identify countries requiring further support and safeguards. The Expert Advisory Group took note of the limitations in availability of health workforce data for 2021 and 2022 and the lack of correlation between additional parameters and health workforce and service coverage vulnerability; therefore, its members recommended retaining the density of health workers and the universal health coverage service coverage index as the two criteria for the WHO Health Workforce Support and Safeguards List (consistent with the version published in 2020), with the possibility of revising the thresholds.

Book excerpt: The Global strategic directions for nursing and midwifery (SDNM) 2021-2025 presents evidence-based practices and an interrelated set of policy priorities that can help countries to ensure that midwives and nurses optimally contribute to achieving universal health coverage (UHC) and other population health goals. Download or read book Bilateral agreements on health worker migration and mobility maximizing health system benefits and safeguarding health workforce rights and welfare through fair and ethical international recruitment written by World Health Organization and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2024-03-14 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International migration and mobility of health workers is increasing in volume and complexity. If not adequately managed, migration of health workers from low and middle-income countries can exacerbate shortages and can weaken health systems in these countries and widen inequities. Among various pathways for movement of health workers, government-to-government agreements hold important potential to ensure that health workers and the health systems of participating countries benefit from health worker migration and mobility. This guidance is a tool for improving the capacity of state actors involved in the development, negotiation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of agreements related to international health worker migration and mobility, keeping health system priorities at the fore, in alignment with the provisions of the WHO Global Code of Practice on the International Recruitment of Health Personnel.

This book was released on 2024-02-12 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Working for Health five-year action plan for health employment and inclusive economic growth (2017–2021) draws on the recommendations of the report of the United Nations High-level Commission on Health Employment and Economic Growth. It is delivered principally through the joint intersectoral W4H programme and its Multi-Partner Trust Fund (MPTF) in partnership with WHO, ILO and OECD. A major part of its objectives is to stimulate workforce actions in alignment with national, regional and global strategies and plans. These actions are delivered at country and regional level through multisectoral Member State-led collaboration and catalytic technical and financial support. Other joint W4H work includes developing and adapting key global public goods, including an international platform for health worker mobility, an interagency data exchange platform, an ILO and OECD approach to anticipating the skills needs of health workers, and a methodology for measuring employment impact. This document presents the findings of an independent end-of-project review of the Working for Health five-year action plan for health employment and inclusive economic growth (2017–2021) Working for Health Multi Partner Trust Fund over the first action plan period. This included direct support to 13 countries, two economic regions and three global projects. The review is based on the evaluation criteria of relevance, efficiency, effectiveness, impact and sustainability. The review also looks to the future of sustaining investment and support for implementation of subsequent projects under the new Working for Health 2022–2030 Action Plan and its MPTF, which was extended by Member States at the Seventy-fifth World Health Assembly in May 2022.
Download or read book WHO guideline on health workforce development attraction recruitment and retention in rural and remote areas written by World Health Organization and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2021-05-06 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With nearly half of the world's population living in a rural or remote area, meeting the health needs of rural populations, where over 80% of the world's extremely poor live, is imperative in achieving universal health coverage. Leaving no one behind means ensuring that health workers are available in rural and remote areas. Health, social and economic inequities remain cross-cutting challenges for rural populations. Rural populations tend to be poorer, have worse health outcomes, and experience higher rates of unemployment, underemployment and informal employment. It is estimated that about 51-67% of rural populations are without adequate access to essential health services , translating to about 2 billion people being left behind. In some countries, rural populations have access to numbers of health workers that are 10 times less than the numbers available to urban populations. The deficiency in numbers and mix of trained motivated health workers to provide the needed health services is a critical health system issue. This inequitable access to health workers and health services impacts health outcomes and increases socioeconomic disadvantages. Higher under-5, maternal and preventable mortality rates, increased morbidity, decreased life expectancy, and more costs to access distant care are seen across rural areas.
