Book Handbook on Restructuring and Substantial School Improvement

Download or read book Handbook on Restructuring and Substantial School Improvement written by Herbert J. Walberg and published by IAP. This book was released on 2007-08-01 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: (Published in cooperation with The Center on Innovation & Improvement) As suggested by the title, the purpose of this Handbook on Restructuring and Substantial School Improvement is to provide principles for restructuring and substantially improving schools. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, the Center on Innovation & Improvement (CII) engaged leading experts on restructuring and school improvement to prepare modules for this handbook to assist states, districts, and schools in establishing policies, procedures, and support to successfully restructure schools. The Handbook is organized into three sections. The topic of the Handbook’s modules – restructuring with a focus on the district as the impetus for dramatic improvement – is relatively new in the nation’s education history. For this reason, the module authors were selected because they are highly experienced experts in their fields and can be counted on to judiciously weigh the less than definitive evidence and to state useful guiding principles.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Academic Planning examines the importance of building a college or university academic plan alongside the institution's strategic plan. While the strategic plan outlines the various strategies the campus has chosen to make itself more financially stable and compatible with crucial external controls, the most significant offerings of a campus are its academic products-- research, teaching, service, and intellectual products. It seems apparent that both plans should be developed alongside each other, but evidence suggests that in many cases, they are developed independently. In this book the authors contend that this is a fundamental mistake.

Book excerpt: Higher education is becoming destabilized in the face of extraordinarily rapid change. The composition of the academy's most valuable asset—the faculty—and the essential nature of faculty work are being transformed. Jack H. Schuster and Martin J. Finkelstein describe the transformation of the American faculty in the most extensive and ambitious analysis of the American academic profession undertaken in a generation. A century ago the American research university emerged as a new organizational form animated by the professionalized, discipline-based scholar. The research university model persisted through two world wars and greatly varying economic conditions. In recent years, however, a new order has surfaced, organized around a globalized, knowledge-based economy, powerful privatization and market forces, and stunning new information technologies. These developments have transformed the higher education enterprise in ways barely imaginable in generations past. At the heart of that transformation, but largely invisible, has been a restructuring of academic appointments, academic work, and academic careers—a reconfiguring widely decried but heretofore inadequately described. This volume depicts the scope and depth of the transformation, combing empirical data drawn from three decades of national higher education surveys. The authors' portrait, at once startling and disturbing, provides the context for interpreting these developments as part of a larger structural evolution of the national higher education system. They outline the stakes for the nation and the challenging work to be done.

Book Restructuring Plans Creditor Schemes and Other Restructuring Tools Book and Digital Pack

Download or read book Restructuring Plans Creditor Schemes and Other Restructuring Tools Book and Digital Pack written by Geoff O'Dea and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2022-03-22 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This timely new work provides the most comprehensive coverage of debt restructuring tools available in the UK including analysis of the new restructuring plan under Part 26A of the Companies Act 2006 and emerging themes from related precedent case law. The book is the first of its kind to provide a comprehensive analysis of the new restructuring plan. Part A explains the law and practical application of the main types of creditor schemes of arrangement and restructuring plans in the UK. It analyses the tools available to market participants and other key stakeholders by reference to the capital structures most commonly seen in middle market and top tier European financings. Part B provides a comparative analysis between company voluntary arrangements (including recent case law) and schemes and restructuring plans to enhance the reader's understanding of the implications of the various tools available. Part C covers administration and receivership sales and appropriations under the Financial Collateral Arrangements Regulations for private and public companies, written from the perspective of a practitioner with practical issues in mind. The primary subject matters of the book are complemented by chapters analysing the distressed disposals regime in the Loan Market Association form of Intercreditor Agreement, liability management transactions under high yields nots/bonds, and scheme/restructuring plan-related pensions issues. This work is essential reading for all insolvency and debt finance lawyers advising on financial restructurings in the UK and Ireland. It provides practitioners involved in new money lending with a greater understanding of the consequences that transaction structuring and commonly negotiated features (e.g, debt incurrence regimes and other covenants, controls and carve-outs) may have in a workout scenario. This product includes a copy of the hardback and a digital version available on PC, Mac, Android devices, iPad, or iPhone for quick and easy access wherever you are.

Book Restructuring Universities

Download or read book Restructuring Universities written by Geoffrey Walford and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-11 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1987 Restructuring Universities uses Aston University as a case study of the internal restructuring taking place in universities. Aston lost one third of its funding in 1981 and was told to reduce its student numbers by one fifth within three years. The university has a balanced financial budget, well oversubscribed courses, and the average A level scores of entrants are over the national average in all subjects taught. The books looks at the ways in which the university dealt with rapid change, looking particularly at the decision making processes within the university and the ways in which internal power and politics influenced decisions made. Previous models of decision making are discussed and a new political model outlined. The book provides a useful and informed analysis of the context, politics and management of change in the university system.
