It is thought provoking and inspires the reader through the reflections of the author, Julius Smith. It is a must read for those who value a healthy attitude towards life. As a consequence of his understanding of life issues Abundance Creed connects past history with the present-day struggle of African-Americans. Smith has the exceptional gift of crafting divinely inspired, creative poetry that is both sagacious, perceptive and readable. Julius Smith's sensitivity to the critical, fundamental, timeless issues of the human experience, his depth of insight and analysis is not only remarkable, but it is phenomenal. His reflections are inspirational and useful for those seeking to delve into the subjects of abundance, the current God ordained role of the family, and the painful history (past and current effect) of slavery in America. Smith is a perceptive and serious interpreter of life, as a result Abundance Creed breathes a sense of true compassion, discernment and spirituality which are the inner qualities of Smith himself." Reverend Dr. Almetha Thomas, ordained minister, Licensed Clinical Therapist by the American Association of Pastoral Counselors (retired) "As we walk through life we are gifted with an Abundance of memories. The good ones are like a path of light, the bad ones are shaded by the Reflection of darkness. The images we see in the mirror are Family who develop our wings and allow us to fly. Time represents the pace of our journey, to allow one to experience the quintessential steps of life. The Abundance Creed is well worth the read, and holding on to as a life reference." Quincy Smith, Hollywood Actor "In the Abundance Creed Reverend Smith's in-depth knowledge of the human spirit, his grasp of compassion, justice, and freedom surfaces throughout his poetry. His focus on the American experience points to democracy. I am amazed at his ability to capture feelings, fears, hopes and dreams by connecting words, phrases and sentences. He is innovative, has an extroverted style and quite frankly, the material is inspirational and a joy to read. Right on Brother!" Reverend Richard D. Winn, Sr., Superintendent, The Griffin District, North Georgia Conference of The United Methodist Church

Book Critical Reflections on China s Belt Road Initiative

Download or read book Critical Reflections on China s Belt Road Initiative written by Alan Chong and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-01-24 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides insights into China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) from Asia Pacific and the Middle East. It offers critical perspectives from various directions, not excluding historical investigations, human geography approaches and neo-Marxist inclinations. China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) represents one of the biggest geopolitical visions since the Cold War and offers the possibilities of an intercontinental vision of Aid politics, along with prospects for pan-Asianism. By and large, any geopolitical vision that purports to foster inter-regional dialogue and materialist development of peoples and economies is bound to have its flaws. The Belt and Road Initiative bears hallmarks of the socio-political tradition of Chinese authoritarian infrastructure politics while also offering a possible alternative to the so-called ‘Washington Consensus’ of free markets, deregulation and a shift towards liberal democracy. Additionally, the Belt and Road Initiative opens up wide open intellectual spaces for dialogues between Asians, Arabs and Westerners on the meaning of inclusive inter-continental relationships in philosophy, geography and economics. The significance of this is often underplayed in Chinese official statements whereas this book introduces these possibilities within its assorted sections. “The book is about much more than the material aspects of China’s Belt and Road Initiative. In fact, various chapter authors use the Belt and Road to look at perhaps the most fundamental issue of our times: how does one build a global world order and societies that are inclusive, cohesive and capable of managing interests of all stakeholders as well as political, cultural, ethnic and religious differences in ways that all are recognized without prejudice and/or discrimination?” —Prof. James Dorsey, S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

Book The Science of Sacrifice

Download or read book The Science of Sacrifice written by Susan L. Mizruchi and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 1998-05-04 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From ritual killings to subtle acts of self-denial, the practice and rhetoric of sacrifice has a special centrality in modern American literature. In a compelling interdisciplinary investigation, Susan Mizruchi portrays an episode in American cultural history when the literary movement of realism and the fledgling field of sociology both converged in the belief that sacrifice is basic to sociality. This is a book about the fascination that sacrifice held for writers--principally Herman Melville, Henry James, and W.E.B. Du Bois--and also for those who articulated the main tenets of modern social theory, an inquiry that eventually spans historical events such as public lynchings and the political scapegoating of immigrants a century ago. The execution in Billy Budd Sailor, the death of Du Bois's first-born son in The Souls of Black Folk, Henry James's preoccupation with renunciation and scapegoating, and the self-denying working classes of Norris and Stein all illustrate repeated stagings of sacrificial rituals from a Biblical past. For Mizruchi, the peculiar persistence of this aesthetic construct becomes a guide to a rich theological and social-scientific tradition distinctive to the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and including such influential works as Smith's Lectures on the Religion of the Semites, Frazer's Golden Bough, and Ross's Sin and Society. The major features of sacrifice--its original association with spiritual doubt, its function as a form of spiritual economics that sustained divisions between the fortunate and the bereft, and its role in fixing boundaries between aliens and kin--held strong symbolic value for writers struggling to reconcile faith with rationalism, and communal coherence with capitalist expansion. Mizruchi eloquently demonstrates how the conceptual power of sacrifice made it a key mediator of cultural change, from the decline of sympathy and the significance of "race" in an emerging multicultural society to the revival of maternal self-sacrifice.
