Book Real and Abstract Analysis

Download or read book Real and Abstract Analysis written by E. Hewitt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is first of all designed as a text for the course usually called "theory of functions of a real variable". This course is at present cus tomarily offered as a first or second year graduate course in United States universities, although there are signs that this sort of analysis will soon penetrate upper division undergraduate curricula. We have included every topic that we think essential for the training of analysts, and we have also gone down a number of interesting bypaths. We hope too that the book will be useful as a reference for mature mathematicians and other scientific workers. Hence we have presented very general and complete versions of a number of important theorems and constructions. Since these sophisticated versions may be difficult for the beginner, we have given elementary avatars of all important theorems, with appro priate suggestions for skipping. We have given complete definitions, ex planations, and proofs throughout, so that the book should be usable for individual study as well as for a course text. Prerequisites for reading the book are the following. The reader is assumed to know elementary analysis as the subject is set forth, for example, in TOM M. ApOSTOL'S Mathematical Analysis [Addison-Wesley Publ. Co., Reading, Mass., 1957], or WALTER RUDIN'S Principles of M athe nd matical Analysis [2 Ed., McGraw-Hill Book Co., New York, 1964].

Book Basic Real and Abstract Analysis

Download or read book Basic Real and Abstract Analysis written by John F. Randolph and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Basic Real and Abstract Analysis focuses on the processes, methodologies, and approaches involved in the process of abstraction of mathematical problems. The book first offers information on orientation and sets and spaces, including equivalent and infinite sets, metric spaces, cardinals, distance and relative properties, real numbers, and absolute value and inequalities. The text then takes a look at sequences and series and measure and integration. Topics include rings and additivity, Lebesgue integration, outer measures and measurability, extended real number system, sequences in metric spaces, and series of real numbers. The publication ponders on measure theory, continuity, derivatives, and Stieltjes integrals. Discussions focus on integrators of bounded variation, Lebesgue integral relations, exponents and logarithms, bounded variation, mean values, trigonometry, and Fourier series. The manuscript is a valuable reference for mathematicians and researchers interested in the process of abstraction of mathematical equations.

Book Foundations of Real and Abstract Analysis

Download or read book Foundations of Real and Abstract Analysis written by Douglas S. Bridges and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-04-06 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A complete course on metric, normed, and Hilbert spaces, including many results and exercises seldom found in texts on analysis at this level. The author covers an unusually wide range of material in a clear and concise format, including elementary real analysis, Lebesgue integration on R, and an introduction to functional analysis. The book begins with a fast-paced course on real analysis, followed by an introduction to the Lebesgue integral. This provides a reference for later chapters as well as a preparation for students with only the typical sequence of undergraduate calculus courses as prerequisites. Other features include a chapter introducing functional analysis, the Hahn-Banach theorem and duality, separation theorems, the Baire Category Theorem, the Open Mapping Theorem and their consequences, and unusual applications. Of special interest are the 750 exercises, many with guidelines for their solutions, applications and extensions of the main propositions and theorems, pointers to new branches of the subject, and difficult challenges for the very best students.

Book Spaces of Orderings and Abstract Real Spectra

Download or read book Spaces of Orderings and Abstract Real Spectra written by Murray A. Marshall and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-17 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is of interest to students as well as experts in the area of real algebraic geometry, quadratic forms, orderings, valuations, lattice ordered groups and rings, and in model theory. The original motivation comes from orderings on fields and commutative rings. This is explained as is the important application to minimal generation of semi-algebraic sets. Many results in the new theory of abstract real spectra (also called spaces of signs) appear here for the first time. The reader needs elementary knowledge of commutative rings, ordered fields and real closed fields and valuations.

Book Abstract State Machines 2004 Advances in Theory and Practice

Download or read book Abstract State Machines 2004 Advances in Theory and Practice written by Wolf Zimmermann and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-04-27 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 11th International Workshop on Abstract State Machines, ASM 2004, held in Lutherstadt Wittenberg, Germany, in May 2004. The 12 revised full research papers presented together with 4 invited papers were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in the book. The papers reflect state-of-the-art research and development of the abstract state machine method for the design and analysis of complex software and hardware systems. Besides theoretical results and methodological progress, applications in various fields are studied as well.
