Book excerpt: Providing a practical, current, evidence-based approach to all aspects of perioperative care for the patient with vascular disease, Vascular Anaesthesia is an essential read for all vascular anaesthetists, anaesthetic nurses and anyone else involved in the care of vascular patients throughout the world. Vascular Anaesthesia summarizes current knowledge, particularly on interventional procedures (radiological, diagnostic, and surgical). This book also equips the trainee anaesthetist with the scientific and clinical knowledge to pass the Final FRCA examination. It enables doctors to approach vascular surgical patients with a firm understanding of a particular procedure, particularly its risks and options for perioperative management based on current best practice. The management of the patient with vascular disease is evolving rapidly: this indispensible poket reference is of sufficient detail to update the regular and occasional vascular anaesthetist with current best practice for particular, common clinical scenarios. The book also equips the non-anaesthetic medical, nursing, and theatre staff with knowledge and understanding of all other aspects of perioperative care.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Genetics more than any other biological approach can explain why some people experience more pain than others and receive less benefit from existing analgesics. Sixteen scholarly articles from international contributors describe the application of genetic techniques to the problem of pain and consider the knowledge that has so far resulted. Three themed sections review the techniques that are allowing the study of pain mechanisms at the genetic level; describe the progress being made in lab animals and humans in identifying the genes responsible for individual differences; and explore the practical and ethical issues that face pain researchers. Book Vessel Health and Preservation The Right Approach for Vascular Access

Download or read book Vessel Health and Preservation The Right Approach for Vascular Access written by Nancy L. Moureau and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-06-10 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Open access book offers updated and revised information on vessel health and preservation (VHP), a model concept first published in poster form in 2008 and in JVA in 2012, which has received a great deal of attention, especially in the US, UK and Australia. The book presents a model and a new way of thinking applied to vascular access and administration of intravenous treatment, and shows how establishing and maintaining a route of access to the bloodstream is essential for patients in acute care today. Until now, little thought has been given to an intentional process to guide selection, insertion and management of vascular access devices (VADs) and by default actions are based on crisis management when a quickly selected VAD fails. The book details how VHP establishes a framework or pathway model for each step of the patient experience, intentionally guiding, improving and eliminating risk when possible. The evidence points to the fact that reducing fragmentation, establishing a pathway, and teaching the process to all stakeholders reduces complications with intravenous therapy, improves efficiency and diminishes cost. As such this book appeals to bedside nurses, physicians and other health professionals.

Book The GAVeCeLT manual of Picc and Midline

Download or read book The GAVeCeLT manual of Picc and Midline written by Mauro Pittiruti and published by Edra. This book was released on 2017-05-30T00:00:00+02:00 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Venous access devices are necessary for any patient requiring repeated blood sampling, parenteral nutrition, chemotherapy, antibiotic therapy or other IV treatments to be delivered in the hospital setting or at home. In the last decade, ultrasound-guided PICCs and Midline catheters – inserted by adequately trained physicians or nurses - have suddenly and widely spread in the field of venous access devices all over the world. The introduction and diffusion of PICCs in Italy has been historically linked to the GAVeCeLT association (the Italian Group of Long Term Venous Access Devices) and particularly to the authors’ scientific and didactic activity. This volume examines the clinical indications for these devices and illustrates the details of their insertion and management in several clinical settings. Furthermore, all the specifications regarding the materials to use and all the aspects related to device removal and replacement, as well as the different strategies for complications prevention, are thoroughly discussed.

Book WHO Guidelines on Hand Hygiene in Health Care

Download or read book WHO Guidelines on Hand Hygiene in Health Care written by World Health Organization and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The WHO Guidelines on Hand Hygiene in Health Care provide health-care workers (HCWs), hospital administrators and health authorities with a thorough review of evidence on hand hygiene in health care and specific recommendations to improve practices and reduce transmission of pathogenic microorganisms to patients and HCWs. The present Guidelines are intended to be implemented in any situation in which health care is delivered either to a patient or to a specific group in a population. Therefore, this concept applies to all settings where health care is permanently or occasionally performed, such as home care by birth attendants. Definitions of health-care settings are proposed in Appendix 1. These Guidelines and the associated WHO Multimodal Hand Hygiene Improvement Strategy and an Implementation Toolkit (http://www.who.int/gpsc/en/) are designed to offer health-care facilities in Member States a conceptual framework and practical tools for the application of recommendations in practice at the bedside. While ensuring consistency with the Guidelines recommendations, individual adaptation according to local regulations, settings, needs, and resources is desirable. This extensive review includes in one document sufficient technical information to support training materials and help plan implementation strategies. The document comprises six parts.

Book excerpt: This new open access edition supported by the Fragility Fracture Network aims at giving the widest possible dissemination on fragility fracture (especially hip fracture) management and notably in countries where this expertise is sorely needed. It has been extensively revised and updated by the experts of this network to provide a unique and reliable content in one single volume. Throughout the book, attention is given to the difficult question of how to provide best practice in countries where the discipline of geriatric medicine is not well established and resources for secondary prevention are scarce. The revised and updated chapters on the epidemiology of hip fractures, osteoporosis, sarcopenia, surgery, anaesthesia, medical management of frailty, peri-operative complications, rehabilitation and nursing are supplemented by six new chapters. These include an overview of the multidisciplinary approach to fragility fractures and new contributions on pre-hospital care, treatment in the emergency room, falls prevention, nutrition and systems for audit. The reader will have an exhaustive overview and will gain essential, practical knowledge on how best to manage fractures in elderly patients and how to develop clinical systems that do so reliably.
