Download or read book Techniques and Concepts of High Energy Physics VIII written by Thomas Ferbel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the eighth Advanced Study Institute (ASI) on Techniques and Concepts of High-Energy Physics we returned once again to the Hotel on the Cay on that speck of land in the harbor of Christiansted, St. Croix, U. S. Virgin Islands. This time, the ASI brought together a total of 73 participants, from 21 countries. The primary support for the meeting was provided, as usual, by the Scientific Affairs Division of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The ASI was cosponsored by the U. S. Department of Energy, by the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab), by the U. S. National Science Foundation, and by the University of Rochester. A special contribution from the Oliver S. and Jennie R. Donaldson Charitable Trust provided an important degree of flexibility, as well as support for worthy students from developing countries. In addition, the International Science Foundation contributed very generously to the support of a participant from Russia. As in the case of the previous ASls, the scientific program was designed for advanced graduate students and recent PhD recipients in experimental particle physics. The present volume of lectures, although, unfortunately, short of three contributions, should complement the material published in the first seven ASIs, and prove to be of value to a wider audience of physicists. It is a pleasure to acknowledge the encouragement and support that I have continued to receive from colleagues and friends in organizing this meeting.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sixth Advanced Study Institute (ASI) on Techniques and Concepts of High Energy Physics was held at the Club St. Croix, in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. The ASI brought together a total of 70 participants, from 21 different countries. Despite logistical problems caused by hurricane Hugo, it was a very successful meeting. Hugo's destruction did little to dampen the dedication of the inspiring lecturers and the exceptional enthusiasm of the student body; nevertheless, the immense damage caused to the beautiful island was very saddening indeed. The primary support for the meeting was again provided by the Scientific Affairs Division of NATO. The ASI was cosponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, by Fermilab, by the National Science Foundation, and by the University of Rochester. A special contribution from the Oliver S. and Jennie R. Donaldson Charitable Trust provided an important degree of flexibility, as well as support for worthy students from developing countries. As in the case of the previous ASls, the scientific program was designed for advanced graduate students and recent PhD recipients in experimental particle physics. The present volume of lectures should complement the material published in the first five ASls, and prove to be of value to a wider audience of physicists.

Download or read book In Conclusion A Collection Of Summary Talks In High Energy Physics written by James D Bjorken and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2003-10-21 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This invaluable volume is a collection of conference talks by James D Bjorken, who has made a huge impact on particle physics and the development of the Standard Model. The earliest of these talks was given in 1965, and the latest in 1990. The book provides, from a personal perspective, a glimpse of the complex evolution of the field over those highly productive decades. In Conclusion: A Collection of Summary Talks in High Energy Physics is aimed at a broad spectrum of particle physicists and students, both experimental and theoretical.

Download or read book Proceedings of the XXVII INT Conference on High Energy Physics 21 27 July 1994 Glasgow Scotland UK 2 Volume Set written by P. J. Bussey and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1995-01-01 with total page 1528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This two-volume set contains the invited and contributed papers from the 1994 'Rochester' Conference on High Energy Physics, held 20-27 July 1994 in Glasgow, Scotland. This most prestigious of the international conferences on elementary particle physics brought together over 1000 researchers in the field from leading universities and research centres in 47 countries throughout the world. The volumes contain over 250 contributed papers from the parallel sessions of the conference giving details of latest research results in all areas of the subject. These and other recent results were collected and reviewed by the speakers in the 24 plenary sessions, whose talks were subsequently written up in a definitive way and assembled here. These reviews give a comprehensive and state-of-the-art coverage of the entire field in 1994. Important topics include the latest experimental results from electron-proton collisions at HERA and electron-positron collisions at CERN. Of special interest is the first concrete experimental evidence for the 'top' quark, found in proton-proton collisions at Fermilab. This quark completes the set of six that are predicted by the Standard Model, and its confirmation will mark a decisive moment in the history of physics. This book is an essential reference for libraries and researchers in high energy physics, nuclear physics, astrophysics and mathematical physics.
