Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many common people, the American Revolution offered an opportunity to radically reimagine the wealth and power structures in the nascent United States. Yet in the eyes of working-class activists, the U.S. Constitution favored the interests of a corrupt elite and betrayed the lofty principles of the Declaration of Independence. The discontent of these ordinary revolutionaries sparked a series of protest movements throughout the country during the 1780s and 1790s. Redemption from Tyranny explores the life of a leader among these revolutionaries. A farmer, evangelical, and political activist, Herman Husband (1724-1795) played a crucial role in some of the most important anti-establishment movements in eighteenth-century America--the Great Awakening, the North Carolina Regulation, the American Revolution, and the Whiskey Rebellion. Husband became a famous radical, advocating for the reduction of economic inequality among white men. Drawing on a wealth of newly unearthed resources, Stewart uses the life of Husband to explore the varied reasons behind the rise of economic populism and its impact on society during the long American Revolution. Husband offers a valuable lens through which we can view how "labouring, industrious people" shaped--and were shaped by--the American Revolution.

Book Abstracts of the Debt Books of the Provincial Land Office of Maryland Volume I St Mary s County Liber 39

Download or read book Abstracts of the Debt Books of the Provincial Land Office of Maryland Volume I St Mary s County Liber 39 written by Jr. Skinner and published by Genealogical Publishing Company. This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The great value of the Provincial Land Office Debt Books is that they enable the genealogist to track land ownership over various years in cases of intestate estates, land inherited by women, and land that is not specified in a will. They are now the basis of a series of record abstracts from Vernon L. Skinner, compiler of the 42-volume series covering the Testamentary Proceedings of the Prerogative Court of Maryland. This volume is the first of three covering St. Mary's County, an original county formed in 1637. Since St. Mary's is also a "burned county" (i.e., the courthouse burned and no probate or land records exist prior to 1777), its Debt Books take on added importance. The information in this series is presented in a tabular form as follows: liber and folio citation, with any pertinent date; name of the person paying the taxes; name of the tract of land and amount of acreage. Each volume in the series is indexed by the name of the land owner and his/her track, and, on average, each volume identifies about 9,000 parcels of land.

Download or read book Abstracts from the Land Records of Dorchester County Maryland Volume K written by James McAllister and published by . This book was released on 2021-01-29 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Abstracts from the Land Records of Dorchester County, Maryland series often reveals names of wives, sons, daughters, and other relationships. Included with the deeds are abstracts of land commissions that re-established the boundaries of land tracts at the request of a new owner. These hearings consisted of depositions of persons knowledgeable of the original markers. The individuals gave not only their knowledge of the history of the boundary markers of the tract of land in question but their own ages, and other bits of information. For research of families in Dorchester County, which has such a dearth of early material, the land records are a must. Fortunately, the abstracts were done with care and a keen knowledge of the records. An index to full-names and places adds to the value of this work.

Every action coming before the court has been abstracted and the name of every individual mentioned in each original court record is included. In addition to the abstracts many of the texts have been transcribed in full and included in the Appendix. John F.
