Download or read book Fundamentals of Guitar written by MILES OKAZAKI and published by Mel Bay Publications. This book was released on 2015-02-25 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is designed to be useful for guitarists at any skill level. Beginners can use it as an introduction to the foundational concepts of the instrument, intermediate players can use it for training and theoretical work, and advanced players can explore the sections on advanced theory, extended technique andthe exhaustive tables of melodic and rhythmic possibilities. It is divided into two parts: pitch and rhythm. Part 1 (pitch) begins with the properties of string, harmonics, and tuning systems. It then moves methodically through pitch information, beginning with locating all versions of a single pitch, building pentatonic, heptatonic, and all possible symmetrical scales. This is followed by a study of intervals, with all possible locations of every two pitches, and a long study that moves through every possible fingering of three pitches, with a series of exercises to master triadic syntax. Part 1 closes with a study of four-pitch structures and complete tables that show all possible pitch sets in circular visual notation.Part 2 (rhythm) begins with a complete course in "Symmetrical Picking," a methodbased on drum rudiments that builds control in the picking hand through an exhaustive variety of movements. The focus of this section is building a strong rhythmic foundation, with a focus on efficiency, accuracy, speed, dynamics, and groove. It is followed by a study of legato playing, working with ornaments and slides. The study of playing with fingers on multiple strings takes up the remainder of the book. This begins with the study of pulse against pulse, playing twosimultaneous tempos. The book concludes with a study of polyrhythm, playingone rhythm against another. Plain English is used as much as possible to describe theoretical concepts, and hundreds of illustrations were made for the book as an aid to those who either don't speak English or prefer to think visually. This approach is designed to beinclusive and to promote creative practice. The main idea of the book is described in this passage (page 154): "Even in this small area there is a lot of material, potentially a lifetime of study. The amount of information can feel overwhelming to students at any level. For this reason, the book is designed for self-directed practice, with an emphasis on what the player "could" do, rather than what the player "should" do. The principle is to develop your own learning process, rather than following someone else?s. The ability to make choices is essential in finding a personal approach to the instrument. Pick and choose the studies that seem interesting - there should be enough variety to accommodate a wide range of personalities. If any particular concept or exercise has been useful as the starting point for a new creative direction, then the book has done its job. Its purpose is not to push any dogma, method, or style, but to open the door to options for guitarists of any background that are looking for new perspectives.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book and accompanying video provide a thorough introduction to flamenco guitar. What are the essential elements and techniques of flamenco guitar playing? How does one capture the real essence of authentic flamenco guitar? These are questions that Juan Martin, celebrated virtuoso flamenco guitarist and teacher, addresses in this first book of a projected three-volume series. The method is designed for the complete beginner and requires no prior knowledge of the guitar or flamenco music. It also provides invaluable insight and material for more advanced players who want to capture the essential sounds, rhythms and emotional power of true flamenco. The series begins with in-depth demonstrations of how the basic building blocks of flamenco guitar technique are used in actual flamenco music. The material then progresses to a detailed exploration of the individual rhythmic forms - the palos. In this book, the fundamental palos of Solea and Alegrias are presented to emphasize the basic rhythms and provide examples of falsetas - the melodic passages. Martin then shows how to apply these when collaborating with a dancer and singer. The music is transcribed in standard notation and tablature (cifra), and the online video contain over 3.5 combined hours of explanation and demonstrations. Provides a detailed introduction to basic techniques, using examples of authentic flamenco to show these techniques in action. Then progresses to demonstrations of the Solea and Alegrias, including music for the soloist and the guitar accompanying the dancing and singing. Includes access to online video.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It Took Me 3 Months to Play My First Song - But You'll Be Doing That in Less Than A Week. It wasn't because I was slow or bad at guitar. Neither was it because I practiced less. I was simply misguided - like every other person to ever pick up the guitar! I took the "traditional" method of learning where you learn all the chords and all the theory behind it before you get to the fun part. This also involves months of practice and learning boring theory. This book is here to end that - to simplify things - to make things so simple that you'll be playing your first melody on day 1 and your first song within 7 days. How can this book do that? You would have heard people say - "You need to learn theory to be a real guitarist" Well..... Wrong! Not everyone needs to know theory - why do you need to learn all the boring theory if it's of no use to you? Why is this forced upon all guitarists? This book cuts out all the cr*p and gives you a streamlined process of mastering guitar. Even if you failed every exam at school and you have never picked up a single instrument in your life, you will be able to become a proficient guitar player without years and years of expensive guitar lessons. With the right strategy, you will get addicted to your guitar and the songs you are able to play. How long will I have to practice? Now, I know you have other commitments in life and cannot spend 25 hours a day practicing guitar. No one wants to do that. This book has been designed with exactly that in mind. It will give you goals for each of your 7 days with step by step instructions on what to play each day. You won't have to worry if you're practicing too less or too much - the book will tell you what you need to be accomplishing each day. Commit a few hours a day for 7 days and you'll make your friends and family jealous when you pull your guitar out. It doesn't matter if you just enter primary school or you are about to retire. This calculation applies to all 6.8 billion people between 6 and 80 years of age in this world. In Guitar for Beginners, you'll discover: A practical day-by-day guide to own yourself and your guitar in less than 7 days How you be your guitar teacher and progress into the league of the big players The chords that will allow you to play your favorite songs A beyond beginners' guide to prepare you for your musical journey Free audio tracks to help you with the charts Real photos to make sure you are not making any mistakes as you go And much more. Many people buy a guitar and just look up their favorite songs on Youtube tutorials. Unfortunately, one of the most frustrating things about learning to play guitar is ironing out old mistakes. Don't skip the basics and pick up bad habits that will become almost impossible to break later. If you want to throw out your air guitar and impress everyone with your guitar skills, then scroll up and click the "Add to Cart" button right now.
