Book Absent The English Teacher

Download or read book Absent The English Teacher written by John Eppel and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2009-10-15 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Mr George loses his job teaching English at a private secondary school in Bulawayo, his pension payout, after forty years of full-time service, bought him two jam doughnuts and a soft tomato. When he backs his uninsured white Ford Escort into a brand new Mercedes Benz, the out-of-court settlement sees him giving up his house to the complainant, Beauticious Nyamayakanuna, and becoming her domestic servant. Through the prism of this engaging post-colonial role reversal, and spiced with Georges lessons on Shakespeare, John Eppel draws down the curtain on one particular white man in Africa. But before its time to go, George will delight us with the antics of his literature classes; his various arrests all timed to coincide with the police chiefs need for help with essays on Hamlet and A Grain of Wheat; his keen eye for flora and fauna; and the long trek back through the hundred years of his familys Zimbabwean past, as he returns an abandoned child to her home. Eppel has satirized the racial politics of southern Africa in many of his previous novels. In Absent: The English Teacher he turns his gaze inwards for a generous and richly rewarding parody of the land of his birth.

Book I d Like to Apologize to Every Teacher I Ever Had

Download or read book I d Like to Apologize to Every Teacher I Ever Had written by Tony Danza and published by Crown Archetype. This book was released on 2012-09-11 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I’d Like to Apologize to Every Teacher I Ever Had is television, screen and stage star Tony Danza’s absorbing account of a year spent teaching tenth-grade English at Northeast High -- Philadelphia’s largest high school with 3600 students. Entering Northeast’s crowded halls in September of 2009, Tony found his way to a classroom filled with twenty-six students who were determined not to cut him any slack. They cared nothing about “Mr. Danza’s” showbiz credentials, and they immediately put him on the hot seat. Featuring indelible portraits of students and teachers alike, I’d Like to Apologize to Every Teacher I Ever Had reveals just how hard it is to keep today’s technologically savvy – and often alienated -- students engaged, how impressively committed most teachers are, and the outsized role counseling plays in a teacher’s day, given the psychological burdens many students carry. The book also makes vivid how a modern high school works, showing Tony in a myriad of roles – from lecturing on To Kill a Mockingbird to “coaching” the football team to organizing a talent show to leading far-flung field trips to hosting teacher gripe sessions. A surprisingly poignant account, I’d Like to Apologize to Every Teacher I Ever Had is sometimes laugh-out-loud funny but is mostly filled with hard-won wisdom and feel-good tears.

Book excerpt: In Absent from School, Gottfried and Hutt offer a comprehensive and timely resource for educators and policy makers seeking to understand the scope, impact, and causes of chronic student absenteeism. The editors present a series of studies by leading researchers from a variety of disciplines that address which students are missing school and why, what roles schools themselves play in contributing to or offsetting patterns of absenteeism, and ways to assess student attendance for purposes of school accountability. The contributors examine school-based initiatives that focus on a range of issues, including transportation, student health, discipline policies, and protections for immigrant students, as well as interventions intended to improve student attendance. Only in the past two or three years has chronic absenteeism become the focus of attention among policy makers, civil rights advocates, and educators. Absent from School provides the first critical, systematic look at research that can inform and guide those who are working to ensure that every child is in school and learning every day.

Book excerpt: This volume captures the essence of schooling in a structural manner and explores the classroom life in the larger schooling context. The emphasis is to uncover the necessary framework of classroom that is significant to understand the place of textbooks in the Indian school education system. By the use of ethnographic vignettes, it brings out the multiple patterns of teacher- student's interactions as they occur in different textbook-based situations. Through this, it sheds light on the primacy of the textbook approach in the classroom processes. The book also investigates the ways through which the students respond to the different pedagogic situations. In doing so, it explores the notions of student boredom, alienation, inclusion and exclusion, and the array of student-textbook experiences that are pivotal to the shape and reshape the classroom processes in the larger pedagogical discourses. This book will be of interest to researchers, students, and teachers of education studies, sociology and politics of education, teacher education, childhood and youth studies, and urban studies. It will also be useful for education policymakers, and professionals in the development sector.

Book Interlanguage Error Analysis an Appropriate and Effective Pedagogy for Efl Learners in the Arab World

Download or read book Interlanguage Error Analysis an Appropriate and Effective Pedagogy for Efl Learners in the Arab World written by Muhammad Khan Abdul Malik and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2020-05-31 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First of all the author wants to make it crystal clear that the present work is of a great benefit both for the English and Arab learners of the target language either Arabic or English. This edition of the book pinpoints previous researchers' findings regarding English and Arabic phonological, morphological and syntactic similarities and differences and how all these differences result in mistakes and errors by the Arab learners of English in their learning process. These mistakes or errors are unconsciously or involuntarily made by Arab learners of English due to the differences between the system and sub-systems of the two languages. The present attempt is the result of my realization as an English language teacher as to how a teacher can minimize students difficulties in learning of English and maximize their knowledge, skills and competency of English as a foreign or second language. This is the first edition. The work is pedagogically oriented and primarily intended to make teaching-learning of English as a foreign/second language a bit easy especially for the first-year university students of English language in the Arab world: (Gulf area such as KSA, UAE, Kuwait, and the Middle East Area, such as Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and so on). The focus is on phonetic and morpho-syntactic variations in Arabic and English languages. This area of research becomes more interesting through the assumptions – (i) information about the differences and similarities between Arabic and English language is to be supplied at an early stage since this facilitates the students learning task, (ii) the differences are to be presented in pedagogically suitable format, (iii) it is useful to separate and present phonetics, morphological and syntactic categories as they function in suitable contexts and not merely abstract notions, (iv) before students may tackle contrastive analysis, they should have basic knowledge of Arabic and English languages similarities and differences and (v) pre-modification and post-modification of lexical and syntactic structures are to be explained appropriately.

Book Mobility in Contemporary Zimbabwean Literature in English

Download or read book Mobility in Contemporary Zimbabwean Literature in English written by Magdalena Pfalzgraf and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-06-29 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph explores the concept of mobility in Zimbabwean works of fiction published in English between the introduction of the controversial Fast Track Land Reform Programme and the end of the Mugabe era. Since 2000, Zimbabwe has experienced unprecedented levels of transnational out-migration in response to the political conflicts and economic downturn often referred to as the Zimbabwe Crisis. This, in turn, has led to an increased outpouring of literary texts about migration, both in locally produced texts and in works by authors based in the diaspora. Situating Zimbabwe’s recent literary developments in a wider context of Southern African writing and history, this book focuses on texts that portray movement within Zimbabwe’s cities, between village and city, to South Africa, and overseas. The author examines important developments and trends in recent Zimbabwean literature, investigating the link between state authoritarianism and control of mobility, and literature’s potential to intervene into dominant political discourses. The book includes in-depth analyses of ten recent works of fiction published in the post-2000 era and develops mobility as a key category of literary analysis of Zimbabwe’s contemporary literatures. Setting out a rich dialogue between literary criticism and mobility studies, this book will be of interest to researchers of African literature, Southern Africa, migration, and mobility.

Book MYSTIC LOVE WHAT ARE TRUE LOVE TWIN FLAME UNION Illustrated

Download or read book MYSTIC LOVE WHAT ARE TRUE LOVE TWIN FLAME UNION Illustrated written by Rakhi Roy Halder and published by Rakhi Roy Halder. This book was released on with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FACING RELATIONSHIP PROBLEMS? YOU CAN BE A TWIN FLAME Feeling ignored, absentminded, or unhappy, may signify that you hold Twin Flame energy within. The applied quantum science books can remove your confusion. The ancient literature says Twin Flames are two halves of one soul manifested as masculine and feminine energy in two individuals. The law of nature entangles them. Plato talked about the two halves of human souls in his work Symposium. The Universe always guides the Twin Flames through synchronicities to reach union with their counterpart. In this journey to the union, the Twin Flames identify their life’s mission and contribute to the betterment of humankind. It is not necessary that a woman will carry feminine energy and a man will carry masculine energy in a Twin Flame pair. People of the same sex can also be Twin Flames. In the book MYSTIC LOVE, the feminine Twin Flame receives guidance from the Universe and goes through self-awakening, realizes quantum reality, and gains knowledge about the various concepts of the quantum world that finally unites her with her Twin Flame. This quantum series book is a life-changing book that aims at transforming life. Along with the everlasting love story, this book presents the quantum theories to unite science and spirituality. The quantum theory of ‘QUANTUM ENTANGLEMENT’ supports the concept of Twin Flames. This book highlights the stages of the Twin Flame journey through a love story. Twin Flames together challenge social taboos. The Feminine TFs are originally Creative, Intuitive, Healing, Gentle, Expressive, Wise, Patient, Emotional, Nurturing, and Flexible by nature. Initially, the Masculine TFs are Logical, Rational, Active, Firm, Loyal, Adventurous, and Strong by nature. Social conditioning suppresses their original nature, and they become unhappy. Unhappiness compels them to find their purpose in life. This purpose helps the Twin Flames to unite. Learning to balance their energy makes their life blissful. This book is visionary and metaphysical where a twin flame unites with her ultimate lover. The vision of Rakhi Roy Halder is closer to the vision of K.D. Courage, Elle Hari, Josephine Smoke, Shaleia Divine, Silvia Moon, and A. Melaine Hale the authors of the books The Twin Flame Guidebook, Twin Flames Exposed, The Twin Flame Handbook, Twin Flames: Finding Your Ultimate Lover, Understanding Twin Flame Separation and Understanding Your Twin Flame Journey.
