Book Abraham Israel and the Nations

Download or read book Abraham Israel and the Nations written by Paul R. Williamson and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2001-03-01 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The divine promises to Abraham have long been recognized as a key to the book of Genesis as a whole. But their variety, often noted, also raises literary and theological problems. Why do they differ each time, and how are they related to each other and to the story of Abraham? Williamson focuses on the promises in Genesis 15 and 17, and concludes that they are concerned with two distinct but related issues. Genesis 15 guarantees God's promise to make Abraham into a great nation, while Genesis 17 focuses chiefly on God's promise to mediate blessing (through Abraham) to the nations. The two chapters are connected, however, by the theme of an individual, royal descendant who will come from the nation (Israel) and mediate blessing to all the nations of the earth.

Zechariah prophesied that in the last days God would make Jerusalem a "cup of trembling" and a "burdensome stone" for the whole world. Today's world has its eyes on Jerusalem, believing that the next world war will break out over this city. Jerusalem is indeed a "cup of trembling" and will continue to be so in spite of false peace initiatives.

Book Mission in the Old Testament

Download or read book Mission in the Old Testament written by Walter C. Jr. Kaiser and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2012-05-01 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Walter Kaiser questions the notion that the New Testament represents a deviation from God's supposed intention to save only the Israelites. He argues that--contrary to popular opinion--the older Testament does not reinforce an exclusive redemptive plan. Instead, it emphasizes a common human condition and God's original and continuing concern for all humanity. Kaiser shows that the Israelites' mission was always to actively spread to gentiles the Good News of the promised Messiah. This new edition adds two new chapters, freshens material throughout, expands the bibliography, and includes study questions.

Book Abraham Blessing and the Nations

Download or read book Abraham Blessing and the Nations written by Keith N. Grüneberg and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-10-24 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph investigates Genesis 12:3 in its context in the final form of Genesis. The author argues that the verse is, first, a promise of security and greatness to Abraham and Israel. However, its position following Genesis 1-11 also indicates a divine plan to extend blessing to all the peoples of the earth. Supporting this understanding of the verse, the author examines the close parallels that Genesis and Numbers 24:9 have to Genesis 12:3. He also presents a detailed consideration of the concept of blessing in the Old Testament and of the niphal and hithpael stems of the verb barak. Ph.D. dissertation under the supervision of Dr R. W. L. Moberly, Durham, UK.

Book excerpt: Grounded in the Word of God and the events of history, JanEgil Gulbrandsen’s latest books, Who Jesus Is and Jesus Is Israel, challenge the traditional Evangelical and dispensationalist understanding of eschatology and the person of Jesus Christ Himself. After years of personal Bible study, reflection, and prayer, Mr. Gulbrandsen realized that an objective reading of the Word of God demands an acknowledgement of Christ as Saviour and judge of Israel, and of the significance of the events in Jerusalem between 65 and 70 AD. When these events are placed in the context of Christ’s purpose and words in the Gospels and the book of Revelation, only one conclusion can be reached. Well organized and clearly written, JanEgil Gulbrandsen’s latest work will provide many “a-ha” moments to clergy and laity alike. It is a book to be approached with an open mind and an open Bible.

Book Israel God s Timepiece

  • Author : Christine Thomas

  • Release : 2018-03-06
  • ISBN : 1641143460

Download or read book Israel God s Timepiece written by Christine Thomas and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2018-03-06 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Vision of Numbers 1, 7, and the Star of David is a revelation of the heart of God for all humanity. The revelation gives a biblical account of the history of Israel and the call of Abraham by God, to father a new nation. The land was covenanted to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob by God as an everlasting inheritance to his "Seed." Through Abraham's son, Jacob, the "Seed," of the woman of Genesis 3:15 would be born. The "Seed," Jesus Christ would be a blessing both spiritually and physically to all humanity, He would bring redemption to all people. The revelation gives deep insight into the Passover and the Exodus from Egypt and introduces the seven Feasts of the Lord which outlines God's Eternal Plan for all humanity, from chaos to eternity. The revelation focuses on Israel; God's chosen people and Time piece in the earth and points to why Israel is the most hotly contested piece of land in the earth. The reason for the conflicts in the Middle East today and why Jerusalem, Israel's Capital City is the most fought-over piece of real estate in the world. Jerusalem has been sought after by all major religions Jews, Muslims and Christians for thousands and thousands of years. God was espoused to Israel and she became his wife. She was unfaithful to Him and had to be punished for her disobedience, idolatry and unfaithfulness to God; therefore, she was uprooted from the land of promise and dispersed to many nations of the world. After two thousand years Israel is back in the land and became a nation on May 14th 1948, fulfilling "The Fig Tree Prophecy," which ushers in the time, the bible calls the "Last Days," or the "time of Jacob's trouble." Therefore, the revelation points to our soon coming King - Jesus Christ. "He is near, even at the door." He will reign in The Capital City, Jerusalem, it is God's resting place for all eternity. It is the Lord's inheritance; where He will reign in Majesty. It is in this future City that all believers of the House that Christ is building will live and reign with Him. Our home, the New Jerusalem will descend from heaven to this great land and Christ will reign with both Jews and Gentiles in that City forever and ever. It is God's will for all people from every nation, country, tribe and culture to be saved; this is God's heart for all people and humanity's only hope - salvation in Jesus Christ. Deuteronomy 4:6 Says: "Hear O Israel: The Lord our God the Lord is one."

Download or read book A Light to the Nations written by Norman K. Gottwald and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2009-08-18 with total page 645 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Light to the Nations is a singularly well-organized survey of ancient Israel in its historical continuity, with special attention to the literature of the Old Testament viewed through the lens of historical-critical method. The book interweaves literary, historical and theological approaches, combining the best features of other scholarly texts that are strong in only one of these points of view. Thus it is not just an exegesis of the biblical books, nor simply a history of Israel, nor purely a theological study, but a synthesis of the interests and values of all three. Throughout, connections between the faith of Israel and that of the later synagogue and church are stressed. An immensely useful section on Canon and Text gives the student a knowledge of the Old Testament's ancestry that is foundational to studying the biblical text. The book is richly supplied with maps, illustrations, a glossary, recommended further reading, and translations of eleven chief ancient Near Eastern texts related to the Bible.
