Download or read book Abraham written by James G Whitelaw and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-05-22 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edition is designed for leaders who are leading a Bible study group using our main book as a Bible study tool. It contains guidance and help for each stage of the study. The story of Abraham is a journey through life. It is a journey all of us are called to make. The circumstances may be different, the location most certainly will not be the same route as Abraham took, but the journey we take will face the same problems and same distractions which would seek to sideline us. Therefore, it is crucial to study these characters. As Solomon said, "Nothing is new under the sun". We can learn from these scriptures, which God has provided for us. Abraham starts his life in Ur of the Chaldeans, a godless place, and this is where we all start. We come into this life as sinners, and we must begin our journey there. Most people stay there, but some are called to start a journey. When Abraham reached Haran, he settled but was never going to stay there. Haran is Abraham's decision point, and we also will face a moment when we have to decide if we will press on towards the promised land or ignore the call of God. Abraham then journeys towards and arrives in the promised land but can only see it by faith. He does not possess it at this point but believes God will fulfil his promise. We, too, will own nothing in this world as our sights should be set way beyond earthly realms. God has promised us the same reward as Abraham, and we must keep that in sight as we move through our earthly journey. We should note that Abraham was called to leave his land, his family, and his homeland. We do not know what God will ask us to do, but you can be sure there will be sacrifices to make along the way, and we must be ready to make them. We must be prepared to lay aside everything that would burden us in our journey. When Abraham arrives in Shechem, he builds his first altar, and we also must build an altar and make a sacrifice, but Abraham then moves on to Bethel, which in Hebrew means 'House of God'. Likewise, building our first altar and making a sacrifice is not the end for us. We need to press on until we reach the House of God. The House of God is where we must be found.

Book Isaac

  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 60 pages

Download or read book Isaac written by James G Whitelaw and published by . This book was released on 2021-05-23 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Bible Study Leader's Edition(BSLE), we add extra content and questions for exploration. We suggest points to pause and ponder what has been covered. Although designed for the leader of a small Bible study group, it may be used by an individual seeking a deeper study of the character. There are many questions throughout the book. Give your group the opportunity to answer, but be prepared to take it forward. I firmly believe that every verse in the Bible has meaning for us today in the twenty-first century. If it did not, God would not have let it become part of the Bible. Every verse is there for a purpose, whether for encouragement, correction, guidance, or various reasons. I love studying Biblical characters, so I started writing this series of books. I think every personality in the Bible is fascinating, simply because they have meaning for us today. When I studied the character of Abraham, it was clear to me that the story of Abraham was likened to our spiritual walk and represented the steps and stages we would encounter in our lives. When I then turned to Isaac, I puzzled over him for a while, reading and re-reading the account of his life and wondering what the overall significance for us is today? Then I felt God say to me, "Isaac is like the Church today. He is a great man but achieves little." When God speaks to me like that, it still comes as a shock, but then when I look at it, yes, it's right. The Church is a great organisation, but it is achieving little today. Therefore, any burdened that the Church is achieving little need to study the character of Isaac and learn from him. This book seeks to recount the life of Isaac and look for deeper meaning related to us in the twenty-first century, but I must confess, I found this a difficult book to write, and I hope this does not detract from the content.

  • Pages : 36 pages

Book excerpt: This edition is for leaders of a group who are using our main book on Lot as a study tool. This edition contains pauses and extra questions and discussion points to help your group delve deeper into the subject. Lot was the nephew of the patriarch Abraham and learned from him as they emigrate from The Iraq/Iran area to Israel, four thousand years ago. Abraham, the father of the Israelis and the Arabs is a giant of the faith, but Lot got sidetracked and lost everything. This book follows his progress and examines what lies behind the scenes. Read about the fascinating escape from Sodom when God rained fire down upon it and finish up appreciating the faithfulness of God. Great Bible study tool. Use for Bible study with small groups. The Apostle Paul said that the old covenant was a school teacher to bring us to God. We leave school when we become an adult, but we don't forget what we learned there. In the same way, the old covenant is immensely important to us as Christians. We must learn from the Old testament before we can truly understand the New Testament.

But in this classic work, Christian philosopher and statesman Elton Trueblood reveals how Lincoln's leadership skills flowed directly from his religious convictions—which explains how the president was able to combine what few leaders can hold together: moral resoluteness with a shrewd ability to compromise; confidence in his cause while refusing to succumb to the traps of self-righteousness or triumphalism; and a commitment to victory while never losing sight of his responsibility for—or the humanity of—his enemy. These rich meditations offer deep wisdom and insight on one of the most effective leaders of all time.
