Friendships take time, trust, and sacrifice, and in this insightful study Oswald Chambers examines each step of Abraham’s faith-journey toward intimate friendship with his creator. Chambers shows us how this great pioneer of faith reacted to God’s call, the claims of companions, clashing circumstances, and the terrific cost of God’s friendship. Not Knowing Whither asks Christians today to look each faith challenge in the eye—to face the unknown—and pursue friendship with God.

Book excerpt: Through every turn of the biblical story, God's people are a wandering people. When they are rescued from slavery in Egypt, God sends them into the desert, where they wander for a generation. Jesus and his disciples wander from town to town. In fact, some of God's most important truths are imparted to people with dusty feet as they travel on the road. With his trademark thoughtful introspection, A. J. Swoboda boldly suggests that wandering is not an absence of faith but a central component of faith. In The Dusty Ones, he leads the restless, the frustrated, and the curious on a spiritual journey to uncover the answers to questions like - Do I wander because I'm failing or because God has left me? - Is the desert something I can overcome? - Why is God sometimes "hidden" in the Bible? - What do I do when the end seems nowhere in sight? This compassionate and contemplative book offers hope and peace to Christians and seekers alike as they make their way down the winding road of faith.

Book excerpt: God called Abram out of Babylon to go on a journey to a place God would show him. Abram must step out in blind faith in God and His Word. Throughout Abrams journey with God, He was shaping and forming Abraham into His image and likeness for the purpose God had for his life. Abram must walk his journey with God step by step. As Abram obeyed God and His Word, he was drawing closer and closer to God in a deep and abiding relationship. Eventually, God changed Abrams name to Abraham because he had been transformed into a mature man of God who would soon have spiritual seed through Isaac. The life of Abram/Abraham is a picture of the spiritual life of those who follow God through Abrahams seed Jesus. God called Abraham out of wicked Babylon. He still calls people out of wickedness symbolized by Babylon to follow His faithful and obedient Son Jesus into a new spiritual life. God has a plan and purpose for each of our lives but He must shape and form us for the call. God will walk us step by step through faith and obedience to His Word into the fullness of the blessing that Christs sacrifice accomplished. God works in fullness. God wants to be fully known and wants to extend the fullness of the blessing that Christs sacrifice on the cross accomplished for all -- whether Jew or Gentile. Abrahams journey with God and His walk of faith and obedience beautifully illustrates Gods desire to bless all those who love His Son Jesus Christ. Abraham obeyed God willingly out of love, not out of command or demand. God spoke to Abraham and then left the choice of obedience up to him. When Abraham willingly obeyed Gods Word, he was blessed. Those who love and follow Jesus are to also obey His Word willingly out of love. The New Covenant extends from the Abrahamic Covenant. The Bible says that the gospel was announced in advance to Abraham. Gal. 3:8 This book is written to show that Truth.

Book excerpt: A close-knit community of Christian women writers share compelling and courageous personal journeys of transformation and growth toward finding their unique voices and invite other women to join them on the beautiful journey. From matters of politics to education, from social justice to health and wellness and beyond, this has been a year for the voices of women to ring out, and the Women of Redbud Writers Guild add their voices to the swell: voices of honesty, faith, deep spirituality, and generous wisdom. In their new book, Everbloom: Stories of Deeply Rooted and Transformed Lives, edited by Shayne Moore and Margaret Ann Philbrick, they speak out on behalf of those women who might not have found their own voices yet, sharing stories of their own personal transformations, discoveries, and overcomings. In forty stories, from global campaigns against social injustice and poverty, to the most intimate retellings of miscarriages and stillbirths, these Women of Redbud Writers Guild share a clarion call to all women: there is no pain that cannot be redeemed by the grace of God, no God-given voice that should be silenced, no one for whom the love of God through Jesus Christ will ever fall short.

Abraham was a pagan who worshiped idols; however, he left his home, family, and security to follow God. God called Abraham to be a centerpiece in his plan to redeem all people (Gen 12:1-3). All nations would be blessed through him, as he was the father of Israel-God's priests-and an ancestor of Jesus-the one who gave his life to save the world (John 3:16). Because of Abraham's great faith, he is called the father of all who believe (Gal 3:7). Though each person's faith journey is unique, we all encounter similar trials and tribulations, joys and victories, as Abraham did. And like him, we are called to be lights in a dark world that denies God. As we study Abraham, we learn how to faithfully live our life of faith. We cover topics like following God's call, passing God's test, conquering habitual sins, responding to conflict, experiencing God's power, and much more. Let's study Abraham's life together with the Bible Teacher's Guide: "Expositional, theological, and candidly practical! I highly recommend The Bible Teacher's Guide for anyone seeking to better understand or teach God's Word." -Dr. Young-Gil Kim, Founding President of Handong Global University "Helpful to both the layman and the serious student, The Bible Teacher's Guide, by Dr. Greg Brown, is outstanding!" -Dr. Neal Weaver, President of Louisiana Baptist University
