Book About the House with Henri de Marne

Download or read book About the House with Henri de Marne written by Henri De Marne and published by Upper Access Books. This book was released on 2021-07-27 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Henri de Marne is among America's best-known experts on every aspect of home ownership. For 32 years, people have depended on him for answers to questions such as: What should I do when moss is growing on the north side of a roof? How can I stop the toilet tank from sweating? How can I paint a basement floor and not have the paint peel off? What is the best way to get rid of carpenter ants? Where can I get replacement hardware for my old windows? Why have my windows been steaming up ever since I installed a new furnace? The one disadvantage of a column, of course, is that you don't necessarily save all those columns, to be handy when you need the information. This is a big collection--probably the most complete handbook for homeowners that has ever been published--and in the same conversational, easy-to-understand language that readers have come to expect over the years.

Book Battlefields of the Marne 1914 Illustrations

Download or read book Battlefields of the Marne 1914 Illustrations written by Michelin and Cie Publisher and published by Michelin & Cie. This book was released on with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the benefit of tourists who wish to visit the battlefields and mutilated towns of France we have tried to produce a work combining a practical guide with a history. Such a visit should be a pilgrimage, not merely a journey across a ravaged land. Seeing is not enough, one must understand: a ruin is more moving when one knows what has caused it; a stretch of country which might seem dull and uninteresting to the unenlightened eye, becomes transformed at the thought of the battles which have raged there. We have, therefore, prefaced the description of our journeys by a short account of the events which took place in the vicinity, and we have done our best to make this account quite clear by the use of many illustrations and maps. In the course of the description we give a brief military commentary on the numerous views and panoramas contained in the book. When we come across a place that is interesting either from an archæological or an artistic point of view, there we halt, even though the war has passed it by; that the tourist may realise it was to preserve intact this heritage of history and beauty that so many of our heroes have fallen. Our readers will not find any attempt at literary effect in these pages; the truth is too beautiful and tragic to be altered for the sake of embellishing the story. We have, therefore, after carefully sifting the great volume of evidence available, selected only that obtained from official documents or from reliable eye-witnesses. This book was written before the end of the war, even then the country over which it leads the reader had long been freed. The wealth of illustration in this work allows the intending tourist to make a preliminary trip in imagination, until such time as circumstances permit of his undertaking a journey in reality beneath the sunny skies of France.

Book The Savvy Woman s Guide to Owning a Home

Download or read book The Savvy Woman s Guide to Owning a Home written by Kitty Werner and published by RSB Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finally a homeowner's manual for everyone. Newly revised and updated to include information on energy efficiency?saving money, saving energy and maintaining your home. Finally, a homeowner's manual for everyone. Just as a new vehicle comes with an Owner's Manual, now your house can too. Homeowners aren't expected to repair their own home anymore than a driver is expected to repair their vehicle. Yet in each case, the owner is expected to know when a problem arises and who to call for help if the job isn't DIY. That is an owner's responsibility. Maintaining a home means knowing when servicing needs to be done, or when repairs need to be made. None of this is obvious to someone who has never been responsible for a home.
