Book excerpt: Words Of Wisdom... It began as an oral tradition, the passing on of knowledge, wisdom, understanding, the natural way of life and the order of all things. Starting with the creator Himself to his created, from father to son from mother to daughter this vital information was past... It was the MaZoon (the Wise) Sages that foresaw the need to transcend knowledge from an oral tradition to a written text as a guide for those that would lose their way due to unintentional uncontrollable circumstances and to those who were intentionally misled and purposely deceived about all matters of life, even their origins in life, their langue, their cultural identity, their names and their religion... This scroll transcends nationalities & cultural identities, with the hope of attempting to scratch the surface of showing the connectedness of the indigenous by the words spoken from the mouths of the aboriginal where ever WE maybe... ...I Am That I Am...

Book Jamaican Creole Proverbs

Download or read book Jamaican Creole Proverbs written by Aleksandra R. Knapik and published by Æ Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2019-12-20 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jamaican Creole, like many other contact languages, has taken its ultimate shape through the course of multi-lingual and multi-cultural influences. From the perspective of contact linguistics , this meticulous study examines Jamaican Creole proverbs in a corpus of over 1090 recorded sayings; it presents a framework of cultural changes in Jamaica accompanied by corresponding linguistic changes in its creole. The analysis clearly demonstrates that despite three centuries of extreme dominance by the British empire, Jamaicans successfully preserved the traditions of their own ancestors. Not only that. The poly-layered stimulus of various factors: geographic, cultural and, most prominently, linguistic, helped create a unique phenomenon – Jamaican creole culture. The vibrant life of the Jamaican people and their African background is best encapsulated in their proverbs, proverbs which constitute generations of wisdom passed from the 16th century and on. John R. Rickford, J.E. Wallace Sterling Professor of Linguistics and the Humanities, Stanford University The research theme of the very publication entitled Jamaican Proverbs fromthe Perspective of Contact Linguistics is a successful analysis of both linguistic and cultural contacts between English and African cultures that have been shaping the vernacular language of Jamaica. The study material consists of 1092 proverbs, all of which can be regarded as a first-hand record of sociolinguistic events that have had important influence upon the formation of the Jamaican creole language and its registers. Dr. Knapik proves beyond any reasonable doubt that the Jamaican linguistic and cultural world is a great example of a thriving microcosm which continues to incorporate various elements and can also very well serve as the basis for future research on patterns of language and culture development. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, The Hidden Revelation, started out because of my search for knowledge and my in-depth studies of various religions. I realized that we are more alike than we are different through that search. I realized that the major religions of the world have more similarities than differences, yet we think we are so different from each other. Various parts of the world, practices various religions and spiritual teachings and at the core, the very message, some traditions and some practices are one and the same. Then why do we fight in the name of religion? Why do we kill in the name of religion? Why do we look down at some, look up at some and don't look at some at all? Why do we discriminate and think we are better? The basis for this book, though not all encompassing, seeks to highlight, how the undertone of religions in the world are the same. How at the core, we are all seeking the same things in life- which is peace, love, harmony, contentment, happiness and a connection to a power bigger than and greater than anyone of us. This book shows how no matter what religion we belong too, yes, there are differences but the similarities far outweighs them. So the question arises again, Why do we fight, why do we hate? If we are all so alike, we should be living in harmony, we should be at peace, we should be happy...the beauty is we can all have that. We just need to put our minor differences aside and connect at a heart level, at a spiritual level and see God in each other. Read the book and you would journey into a world where it is somewhat of a Utopia, but we need that in order to see the big picture and to understand love in the Universe. The settings used to describe various religions and practices, also takes you, on a travel and you get to picture parts of the world you may have on your bucket list. Even some world class travelers, who have visited some of these places, might also be able to see it from another perspective. If anything at all, you would find at least one nugget to help improve your life and your perspective. Spread love and unity!!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since ancient times, the enduring religious concepts of love your fellow being, live truthfully, and do to others what you would like them to do to you have laid the foundations of the laws of civilized human societies. The presence of a supernatural power and its feeling at a personal level has been a source of inspiration and emotional satisfaction for the spiritual believer. The spiritual enhancement reinforced the human mind to achieve greater goodness in the conduct of life. All religions have contributed significantly in shaping humanity, and they continue to do so. World religions have a common spiritual heritage to guide us on the path of a purposeful life of kindness, peace, and harmony in spite of differences in languages, cultures, and historical origins. Benefits of science and technology are available to everybody. The geographic barriers have been shrunk for our global township of diverse cultures and faiths. However, science has also produced the menace of thermonuclear and biological weapons capable of global devastations. In this new era of science, religion has a greater role to play for education in universal awakening to purge prejudice and antagonism that trigger conflicts and wars. Religion and science have a new paradigm for humanity: "Live and help to live."

Book Indigenous Studies and Engaged Anthropology

Download or read book Indigenous Studies and Engaged Anthropology written by Paul Sillitoe and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-23 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advancing the rising field of engaged or participatory anthropology that is emerging at the same time as increased opposition from Indigenous peoples to research, this book offers critical reflections on research approaches to-date. The engaged approach seeks to change the researcher-researched relationship fundamentally, to make methods more appropriate and beneficial to communities by involving them as participants in the entire process from choice of research topic onwards. The aim is not only to change power relationships, but also engage with non-academic audiences. The advancement of such an egalitarian and inclusive approach to research can provoke strong opposition. Some argue that it threatens academic rigour and worry about the undermining of disciplinary authority. Others point to the difficulties of establishing an appropriately non-ethnocentric moral stance and navigating the complex problems communities face. Drawing on the experiences of Indigenous scholars, anthropologists and development professionals acquainted with a range of cultures, this book furthers our understanding of pressing issues such as interpretation, transmission and ownership of Indigenous knowledge, and appropriate ways to represent and communicate it. All the contributors recognise the plurality of knowledge and incorporate perspectives that derive, at least in part, from other ways of being in the world.

Download or read book Teaching Africa written by George J. Sefa Dei and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-12-04 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One is always struck by the brilliant work of George Sefa Dei but nothing so far has demonstrated his pedagogical leadership as much as the current project. With a sense of purpose so pure and so thoroughly intellectual, Dei shows why he must be credited with continuing the motivation and action for justice in education. He has produced in this powerful volume, Teaching Africa, the same type of close reasoning that has given him credibility in the anti-racist struggle in education. Sustaining the case for the democratization of education and the revising of the pedagogical method to include Indigenous knowledge are the twin pillars of his style. A key component of this new science of pedagogy is the crusade against any form of hegemonic education where one group of people assumes that they are the masters of everyone else. Whether this happens in South Africa, Canada, United States, India, Iraq, Brazil, or China, Dei’s insights suggest that this hegemony of education in pluralistic and multi-ethnic societies is a false construction. We live pre-eminently in a world of co-cultures, not cultures and sub-cultures, and once we understand this difference, we will have a better approach to education and equity in the human condition.
