Book excerpt: The "Norchem" was enroute Batlimore, Maryland, U.S.A., from Valleyfield, Quebec, with a full cargo of sulphuric acid in bulk; the "Canadian Prospector" was enroute hamilton, Ontario, from Port Cartier, Quebec with a full cargo of iron ore pellets in bulk. Whilst transiting the South Shore Canal, which is a section fo the St. Lawrence Seaway, the "Norchem" collided in dense fog with the "Canadian Prospector" in a position approximately 45 degree 25'N, 73 degree 42"W, causing damage to her forecastle head shell plating and forward main deck. Damage incurred to the "Canadian Prospector" consisted of bent and broken main deck fittings and hull paint scuffs. The "Norchem" proceeded to Montreal where repairs were effected; the "Canadian Prospector" continued to Hamilton. There were no injuries or pollution as a result of this incident.

Book excerpt: At about 0014 on July 14, 1985, the upbound freighter "Ferbec" collided with the downbound yacht "Nonya Manis II" to the west of Cap aux Oies in the St. Lawrence River. On impact, the sailboat disappeared under the overhang of the "Ferbec's" port bow but was fortunately pushed clear by the vessel's bow wave. Following the collision, the standing rigging of the sailboat was slightly damaged and the starboard side of her hull was scratched. Whilst the occupants of the sailboat inspected the hull and brought the damage shrouds down to the deck, the "Ferbec" continued her upbound course at full speed. The "Ferbec" arrived at the pilot station off Quebec at 0410 en route to Sorel and at about the same time the "Nonya Manis II" was entering the marina at Cap-a-l'Aigle to make repairs. The collision occurred in excellent weather and visibility conditions. There was no loss of life and there were no injuries to the 4 sailboat occupants.
