Book Abandoned Roadside and Historic

Download or read book Abandoned Roadside and Historic written by Chris Chaos and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2023-07 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abandoned Connecticut What is Connecticut known for? Connecticut is known for its beautiful fall foliage, Yale University, and being the home of ESPN. It is often regarded as a state of beauty, but as with every state, it is plagued with decay. The economic crash of 2008 set the ball in motion and cause d many to lose their housing and businesses. The Covid epidemic of 2020 further drove the nail into mom and pop stores seeing a vast number of them get shut down and never recover. If you drive down any major highway with strip malls, you will see the Closed, For Rent signs and empty buildings. Located in southern New England, Connecticut has a mixture of coastal cities and various rural areas populated with small towns. The city of Mystic is known for its seaport museum and its centuries old ships and the Mystic Aquarium On Long Island Sound, the city of New Haven is known as the home of Yale University and its acclaimed Peabody Museum of Natural History. Connecticut was one of the original 13 colonies and played a key role in the development of the nation. Out of all the states, Connecticut is ranked #3 in Healthcare, #6 in education and is 47.5% college educated. Some of the most cited reasons to move to Connecticut are: one of the most scenic states to see in every season, it is the ideal mix of urban and rural, it has beautiful beaches and great food, reportedly has high incomes and good job opportunities and possesses a low crime rate. That is great and all, but we are here for the abandoned! Living on the east coast and having an interest in the abandoned we were always drawn to the larger cities and more well known locations that possess many abandoned properties: Camden, Trenton, Philly, Baltimore, Pittsburg, New York City and the like. Out of all the states on the east coast, Connecticut was one of the last ones that I would expect to have interesting abandoned. When we were looking for locations to road trip to we found a few interesting spots and they were located in Connecticut. As always, when we plan a trip we research all the cities and locate the pins we make sure it is worth it and try to get more bang for our buck. We started in the cities and conducted extensive research for the abandoned, then fanned our way out until we had enough locations to make it worth while.

Book The Haunted House Diaries

Download or read book The Haunted House Diaries written by William J. Hall and published by Red Wheel/Weiser. This book was released on 2015-08-17 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A paranormal investigator explores a haunted Connecticut farmhouse—with the diaries of a resident detailing decades of unexplained phenomena. Nestled deep in Litchfield Hills, Connecticut, a 1790 farmhouse overlooks the epicenter of a paranormal crossroads. The family that resides there regularly encounters its own ancestors, as well as strangers - human and nonhuman - who seemingly occupy the same physical space in parallel worlds. When ghost hunters Ed and Lorraine Warren investigated, they dubbed it "Ghost Central". When William J. Hall visited the house, family member Donna Fillie showed him her journal of the paranormal activity she’s experienced there over the years. Here is Donna’s diary spanning five decades of uncanny occurrences, supplemented with background information provided by Hall. It tells of notes from old friends who insist they didn't deliver them; a grandson playing with an invisible - but very real - friend; and Donna awakening to phenomena at precisely 12:42 a.m. - an eerie correspondence to her house number, 1242. This compelling work includes many other kinds of inexplicable incidents that frequently occur in this otherwise normal area of Connecticut, which some believe is also the site of a secret military base.

Download or read book Abandoned North Carolina written by Christina E. Cole and published by America Through Time. This book was released on 2021-09-27 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abandoned North Carolina: Mouth of the Holler takes you on an introspective look at North Carolina's past and abandoned architecture with angsty mystery, fulfilling fear and unbridled truth through the eyes and words of the author and photographer, Christina Cole. North Carolina is a state that has progressively worked to shake the old South mentality against a modern backdrop. Yet, the haunting and brash facts lie in a legacy of crumbling walls and barely standing skeletons. Hoodoo and Satanism alike writhe in its belly like Culebra masked only by superstition. Enslavement and suppression were its stronghold from 8,000 B.C. and now again in the present day. While attempts to thwart and rise above the past play out, the one thing that remains true is the bones of the structures that held them. Guiltless, blameless wood, frame, metal, brick, or stone tell the tales of long ago, with pictures for some being the only proof of their existence.
