Book Design Method for Secondary Road Flexible Pavements in Virginia

Download or read book Design Method for Secondary Road Flexible Pavements in Virginia written by Nari K. Vaswani and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design method for secondary roads is based on AASHO Road Test Results and Virginia's design experience. It is divided into two parts. (1) the evaluation of the soil support value of the subgrade, the thickness equivalencies of the paving materials, and the traffic in terms of vehicles per day; and (2) design considerations such as the determination of the required thickness index of the pavement and the selection of the materials and layer thicknesses to meet the design thickness index.

Book Application of AASHO Road Test Results to Design of Flexible Pavements in Minnesota

Download or read book Application of AASHO Road Test Results to Design of Flexible Pavements in Minnesota written by University of Minnesota. Department of Civil Engineering and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this investigation has been to study the design of flexible pavements in Minnesota with emphasis on how the finding and concepts of the AASHO Road test can be applied to the present Minnesota Flexible pavement Design Procedures. At the AASHO Road Test pavements of various thicknesses were built on one subgrade soil with one material for subbase, one material for base, and one material for the asphaltic concrete surfacing on the main factorial experiment. The base type was varied in a special study. Traffic consisted of about one million applications of ten levels of load. Each of the two lanes on the five test loops had constant weight and axle configuration trucks. Adequate thicknesses have been established, based on performance, which is related to the variation in Present Serviceability of a pavement section with traffic.

Book Performance Study of Typical Virginia Pavements

Download or read book Performance Study of Typical Virginia Pavements written by Kenneth H. McGhee and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The performance of in-service typical Virginia flexible and rigid pavements in all areas of the state has been under evaluation since 1954. The objectives are to provide a ready reference for designers and field engineers and to provide background information for design improvement. Periodic deflection and roughness tests have been conducted along with field inspections. The records maintained on each pavement reflect condition, traffic, construction costs, and major repairs. Among the major findings of the study are: 1. Cement stabilized subgrades under recently constructed flexible pavements have virtually eliminated rutting and other major distortions; 2. the estimated cumulative number of 18 kip equivalent axle loads sustained by a pavement up to a fixed degree of cracking is directly related to a parameter used to define the shape of the dynaflect deflection basin; 3. terminal PSI as defined from the AASHO Road Test is too insensitive for use in the evaluation of flexible pavement performance in Virginia; 4. and the use of too long a joint spacing and of metal joint forming inserts has impaired the performance of rigid pavements in Virginia.

Book A Design Guide for Subdivision Pavements in Virginia

Download or read book A Design Guide for Subdivision Pavements in Virginia written by Nari K. Vaswani and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design method for secondary roads and that for subdivision roads are based on AASHO Road Test Results and Virginia's design experience. For flexible pavements, the methods are divided into two parts: (1) the evaluation of the soil support value of the subgrade, the thickness equivalences of the paving materials, and the traffic in terms of vehicles per day; and (2) design considerations such as the determination of the required thickness index of the pavement and the selection of the materials and layer thicknesses to meet the design thickness index. For portland cement concrete pavements, they are based on traffic only.
