Book Aalenian Ammonites and Strata of Western Canada

Download or read book Aalenian Ammonites and Strata of Western Canada written by T. P. Poulton and published by Geological Survey of Canada. This book was released on 1991 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aalenian fossils are widely distributed in the Western Cordillera of Canada and indicate the presence of marine Aalenian strata. Only a few Aalenian fossils have been illustrated previously. This report describes all of the currently known fossil localities and illustrates the more significant ammonites by location and by family.

Book Toarcian early Jurassic Ammonoids from Western North America

Download or read book Toarcian early Jurassic Ammonoids from Western North America written by G. K. Jakobs and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Toarcian (Early Jurassic) strata in the Queen Charlotte Islands have yielded a well-preserved and diverse ammonite fauna that provides a framework for a regional ammonite zonation for western North America described in this report. Other localities, particularly in southern Alaska and north- western British Columbia, have provided additional material contributing to the development of this zonation, which is of prime importance in determining the age of sedimentary strata and the relative timing of tectonic events. The report describes the biostratigraphy of the five western North American Toarcian ammonite zones, the occurrence and stratigraphy of Toarcian fossil occurrences in the western Cordillera, Pacific Northwest, and Queen Charlotte Islands, and biostratigraphic correlations with other areas including Europe. Systematic paleontological descriptions are provided of fossil ammonoids. The appendix includes fossil specimen locality data.

The main body of the text and accompanying plates and figures present the stratigraphy, structural history, and economic geology of specific sedimentary basins and regions. The volume concludes with a summary chapter in which the currently popular theories of cratonal tectonics are discussed and the unresolved questions are identified.
