His majestic taught, experiences and spiritual ideas raised his position as the star-pole in spiritual philosophy. In his life of teaching, he was stroked by the acquisition of heresy. His radical philosophy of religions won the test of time and it led him to achieve the position of a great mystic and theologian in 19th century. Meister took initiative in popularizing several ideas related to modern philosophy, modern spirituality, psychology and psychoanalysis. In 1936, Eckhart began the publications of German and Latin critical works. His works basically show only a small portion of idea that he really planned to write. Meister wrote four works that are usually called “treatises”. His great plan was to write Opus Tripartitum, but unfortunately the first part, Work of Propositions only exist today. The other two parts, Work of Questions and Work of Commentaries consist of valuable sermons and commentaries.

Book excerpt: Imagine what our world might look like if Christians became known for remarkable love, as well as life-giving truth. The stakes are high and the need is great for Christians to represent Jesus to a watching world. And today, we have more influence than ever before--for better and for worse. We are among the first generations to have access to a global megaphone through social media. But it's not enough to speak truth louder to a noisy culture. To counter the reputation Christians have earned, our love must be just as loud. Ask evangelist Matt Brown, and he will tell you Christians today are facing a crisis of influence. In our rush to speak truth to today's tensions, cultural issues, and trending controversies, it becomes all too easy to focus on proving our points rather than extending God's grace. Conversely, when we seek only to love yet never proclaim a better way, we short-circuit God's plan. Truth Plus Love invites you to rediscover the biblical framework for engaging culture as ambassadors of Christ. Through biblical insight, cultural analysis, and practical principles, Matt Brown outlines how to champion truth without compromise, how to love unconditionally, and ultimately, how to step into this great adventure of representing God to the world. It's hard, it's messy, and it's the unfinished project of a lifetime, yet here we find our great adventure: representing God to a watching world.

Book Revival and Revivalism

Download or read book Revival and Revivalism written by Iain Hamish Murray and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Murray analyses a crucial period in American religious history, with particular attention to the major theme of the nature ofreligious revival. He rejects the common identification of revival & revivalism, showing that the latter differed from the former both in its origins & in its implications. Whereas in the earlier period, revival was understood as supernatural & heaven-sent, in the later period the ethos was much more man-centred & the methods employed much closer to the manipulative. The change in perspective can be summed up by saying that revival was first viewed as OEsent down, but later seen as OEworked up. A pivotal figure in the change & a major promoter of the new methods, was Charles Grandison Finney (1792-1875). Murray traces developments from the time of Samuel Davies (1763-61), through the age of the Second Great Awakening, to the New York Awakening of 1857-8. In addition to Davies & Finney, major leaders whose names recur in these pages include Archibald Alexander (1772-1851) of Princeton Theological Seminary, Edward D. Griffin (1770-1837) & Asahel Nettleton (1783-1844).Arnold DallimoreAn outstanding biography, scholarly, yet popularly written, of theleading preacher of the eighteenth-century evangelical revival.Whitefield (1714-70) is acknowledged to have made a greaterimpact on evangelical Christianity on both sides of the Atlanticthan any other preacher of the eighteenth century. The firstvolume traces the early career of Whitefield to the end of 1740, atwhich point the twenty-six-year-old was already the most brilliantand popular preacher of the time, and had already, at age 24,commanded the largest congregations yet seen in America. Thesecond volume traces the doctrinal conflict with John and CharlesWesley, Whitefield?s visits to Scotland and Wales, as well as theAmerican colonies, and the emergence of a Calvinistic branch ofMethodism. Also provided are details of Whitefield?s marriage, friendships, ceaseless labours and early death aged 55. The two-volume set casts new light on Whitefield?s early life in Gloucester, religious conditions in England at the commencement of hispreaching ministry, his influence on the Great Awakening of 1739-40 in America, his relationships with the Wesleys, hisphilanthropic endeavours and his impact on all classes of Englishsociety including the aristocracy.

In Holy Spirit Revivals, Finney recalls those events, revealing the secrets that led to the mass conversions of lost souls in his meetings throughout upstate New York, as well as in Boston, Philadelphia, and London. Finney was unafraid of offending delicate ears by addressing the problem of sin head-on, and his dedication to prayer, his understanding of Scripture, and his radical reliance on the power of the Holy Spirit are a great template for believers today. This treasured account of one of the greatest Christian preachers in history is an outstanding resource for anyone interested in seeing a revival of faith in the church.

Book The Spirit of Revival

    Book Details:
  • Author : Ewang Nelson Mfortaw
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock
  • Release : 2017-04-12
  • ISBN : 9781532630330
  • Pages : 300 pages

Download or read book The Spirit of Revival written by Ewang Nelson Mfortaw and published by Wipf and Stock. This book was released on 2017-04-12 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In these last days, the Christian Faith has fallen into apostasy as it is rightly written in 1 Timothy 4:1-2(NIV), The Spirit clearly says in the later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. We all await a Christian revival but before true revival comes, there must first be a rebirth of learning. This book is a body of living words that make up flames of revival; it is the re -awakening of the Christian Faith. It will enlighten your understanding of God's mind and will. Therefore pay full attention to its contents (Proverbs 4:20, NIV) because understanding it will give you real understanding of the Christian Faith. If you understand this book then the Bible will become plain to you because it is its language. The Spirit of Revival is written to make all the mysteries of the Bible (including the mysteries of the Garden of Eden, the nature of Faith, the concept of sin, and the miracle of baptism) plain and simple to you. These words are not his, but those of Christ. They are spirits ( life) and seven times pure: When there is a need for revival, and the spirit of meditation falls on a man he does not just start preaching (or teaching), but the Spirit raises his understanding of the Truth, it may take years for him to be ready, that is why there is a period in the life of Christ that is not mentioned in the gospels but it is summarized as, ""And Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature, and in the favor of the Lord and man"" (Luke 2:52, NIV). And when such a man has become perfect in wisdom and judgments such that he walk not by sight nor reprove after his hearing because he can discern between spirits (wisdoms), he is presented to man for the glory of the Spirit that leads him. The words in this book are sure and greater than all insights. Pastor Ewang Nelson Mfortaw is a young Cameroonian who believes in the glory of revival because of what he has learnt from the Spirit of Christ who lives in us. He was born in August 1982, and presently lives in Douala (Cameroon).

Book Revival Preaching

Download or read book Revival Preaching written by Ernest Eugene Klassen and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-09-03 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As part of his passion to bring glory to God, Ernie Klassen is particularly interested in the revival of God's people and the awakening of the lost. He believes strongly that God-honoring, Christ-exalting, and Spirit-empowered preaching plays a critical role in revival and awakening. No one models this dynamic better than Jonathan Edwards. He was a pastor who was a protagonist of the First Great Awakening. He thought deeply and critically about religious movements, and his reflections and sermons provide valuable "fodder" for reflection. Revival Preaching extracts the most important lessons of Edwards's writings and sermons for preaching in today's world.

Book Revival

    Book Details:
  • Author : Martyn Lloyd-Jones
  • Publisher : Crossway
  • Release : 1987-02-01
  • ISBN : 1433553597
  • Pages : 322 pages

Download or read book Revival written by Martyn Lloyd-Jones and published by Crossway. This book was released on 1987-02-01 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In every era the church needs revival—certainly today as much as ever. And in the heart of every committed Christian there is the longing for personal revival—to know the quality and depths of spiritual reality, and the presence of God in one's personal life. This was the deepest desire of Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, one of the great 20th-century Bible expositors. It was also the purpose behind this series of messages which were first given on the 100th anniversary of the Great Revival which started in Wales, and swept across England and throughout the United States and to the far corners of the world. As Dr. Lloyd-Jones recognized, it is a rare time in the history of the church when there is a great outpouring of the Holy Spirit— and a time of special interest of every Christian who longs for revival today. As Dr. J. I. Packer writes in his foreword, Dr. Lloyd-Jones believed in "the necessity of revival—that is, a quickening divine visitation—as the only vent that can avert ultimate spiritual disaster. The thrustful urgency of the sermons in this book testifies to the depth of his conviction that without revival in the church there is really no hope for the Western world at all." Dr. Lloyd-Jones deftly draws principles from the lives of Old and New Testament characters as well as expounding some of the great prayers of the Bible. Clearly and forcefully, he presents a masterful exposition of the circumstances accompanying revival in the past, why each generation needs it, and how it will come about today. We must come to the sovereign God, forsake our sin, and wait upon Him for this special, essential outpouring. God, bring us revival!
