Book A Wasting Historical Asset

Download or read book A Wasting Historical Asset written by Iola A. Shorters and published by BAR British Series. This book was released on 2004 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are grave memorials and graveyards as a whole a useful and reliable source for local history? This study demonstrates that the answer must be yes, as it presents a comparative analysis of evidence from churchyards at Wootton Wawen, King's Norton and a range of others in Birmingham. Shorters collates information relating to life expectancy, family structure, marriage patterns, attitudes to death and disposal to determine the extent to which the different churchyards represented different socio-economic trends. Investigating the issue of an urban-rural divide is uppermost in this study.

The Postmaster-General. Memorandum and criticism on the financial proposals of the London County Council report on London electricity supply. Depreciation and controlled establishments under the Munitions of War Act, 1915. The economic and political importance of advancing the science of measuring the annual profits of industry is becoming plainer to the many who are seeking answers to the questions: "What is the fair share of capital and what is the fair share of labour in the annual profits of industry?" It is obvious that before such questions can be satisfactorily answered, it must be possible to ascertain the annual profits of industry with such a degree of accuracy as shall exclude the irregular methods and wholesale guesswork at present prevailing. Book The Accumulation of Waste

Download or read book The Accumulation of Waste written by Ali Kadri and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-08-21 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phenomenal waste has surfaced as the social form and substance of value. In capital’s totalizing process, which commodifies all that comes in its way, wasting classes consume the wasted classes. This book addresses the metamorphosis of value into waste and it focuses on wars as industries of perfect waste. Whereas wasted man is visibly the prevalent commodity on sale, this central element in the commodity relation is rarely mentioned. In line with this, the book examines how waste, as a surrogate value, eludes the crises of capital and maintains its resilience.

Download or read book Depreciation and Wasting Assets written by P. D. Leake and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-11 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Depreciation and Wasting Assets: And Their Treatment in Assessing Annual Profit and Loss The increasing demands for reduction in charges for the supply of municipal and other public services in the nature of monopolies, such as railways, tram ways, electricity, gas, &c., based on the declared annual profits earned by the operation of such services. NO equitable adjustment is possible under any Of these heads without the reasonably accu rate assessment Of annual profit and loss, and this can never be attained without systematic attention to the subject Of Depreciation and Wasting Assets. Under these circumstances it is startling to find the general admission that the subject is in an altogether neglected and chaotic state, coupled with the further general admission that, unless a near approximation to the outlay on wasting assets which has expired within each year (depreciation) is made and fully provided for by being refunded out Of the revenue receipts Of the year, no correct state ment of annual profit or loss can be Obtained. Book National policy statement for waste water

Download or read book National policy statement for waste water written by Great Britain. Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2010-11-16 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Waste Water National Policy Statement (NPS) will be used by the Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC) when deciding whether such applications should get the go-ahead. The policy will be applied to large-scale developments, referred to as Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) in the Planning Act 2008. The NPS refers to two projects that may be dealt with by the IPC - the proposed treatment works at Deephams in North East London, and the Thames Tunnel which will carry waste water from sewage overflows which currently run into the Thames. Under the new guidelines, applicants of Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects will need to consider aspects such as the standard of design, whether any alternatives exist to the project, pollution control and wildlife conservation. The Government is taking measures to lessen demands on waste water infrastructure in England through sustainable drainage systems. However, more infrastructure is required to prevent environmental damage and poor water quality.

Download or read book Pinning Down the Past written by Mike Corbishley and published by Boydell & Brewer Ltd. This book was released on 2014-04-17 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In a relatively short period of time the pursuit of archaeology has evolved from an antiquarian interest to a specialised scientific activity. Part of this evolution has always included the interest of the public and archaeologists' efforts to educate them. As each new method and technique is developed, and each new specialism is created, the challenge of making archaeology available as a learning resource grows with it. Today, for example, the issues which surround archaeology and heritage, such as the pressures of tourism on sites, now form part of many formal educational curricula. This book, the first to deal with the subject in such depth, examines the place of education and outreach within the wider archaeological community. Written by one of Britain's leading archaeological educationalists, it charts the sometimes difficult and painful growth and development of "education and archaeology". Packed full of informative and enlightening case studies, from the circus at Colchester to Sutton Hoo and Hadrian's Wall, this work examines exactly how we have reached the point we are at, where that place is and suggests areas for future development. By drawing upon many decades of experience at the front line of archaeological education, the author has produced a key text that will play a major role in the on-going development of the heritage industry"--Publisher's website.

Book Regeneration Heritage and Sustainable Communities in Turkey

Download or read book Regeneration Heritage and Sustainable Communities in Turkey written by Muge Akkar Ercan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-12-10 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last three decades, historic housing areas have become one of the major concerns in urban regeneration, housing renovation and conservation projects. Since the late 1990s, the notion of community, sustainability and sustainable community have become rising issues in the urban regeneration debate. Regeneration, Heritage and Sustainable Communities in Turkey contributes to this debate by integrating the interplay between regeneration, community needs and sustainability in the context of Istanbul. Together with the relational, multi-scalar and contingency planning approaches, these vital agents of regeneration provide new possibilities and creative opportunities to successfully deal with the uncertainties and complexities in evolving regeneration spaces. The interdisciplinary text reasons that finding the balance between the needs, aspirations and concerns of local communities and the conservation of the built environments will lead to more equitable and sustainable solutions to the problems faced in Istanbul’s historic quarters.
