In addition to this, he analyzes another mystery of faith: the Paschal, Passover, or Easter Mystery of Christ's life, death, resurrection, and return." Book excerpt: As the Eucharist forms the very heart of the whole Christian worship, so it is clear that the entire question of the Church, which all are compelled to acknowledge, the great life-problem of the age, centres ultimately in the sacramental question as its inmost heart and core. Our view of the Lord's Supper must ever condition and rule in the end our view of Christ's person and the conception we form of the Church. It must influence at the same time, very materially, our whole system of theology, as well as all our ideas of ecclesiastical history. -- excerpt from the Preface to "The Mystical Presence" This edition is a word-for-word copy of the 1846 publication of John Williamson Nevin's classic "vindication of the Reformed or Calvinistic doctrine of the Holy Eucharist." Significant effort was made to balance the original text's style with modern typesetting and legibility.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For over 2,000 years the Catholic Church has been celebrating the Eucharist as the source and summit of the Christian Faith and it is still one of the most divisive doctrines separating Catholics and Protestants today. Author, lawyer, and a leading defender of the Faith, John Salza, unpacks this pillar of the Catholic Faith in the same clear, engaging style that has drawn thousands of readers to his other works. Here Salza demonstrates how, without question, the Eucharist, as the body and blood of Jesus Christ, is deeply rooted in biblical history. Whether you are defending, questioning, or exploring the role of the Eucharist in the Catholic Faith, you will come away from The Biblical Basis for the Eucharist with a crystal clear understanding of what the Church teaches and why. Extensively footnoted, yet filled with the passion of a courtroom, this book outlines the Eucharist and the Mass in detail: Learn the story of how the Old Testament sacrificial system was the foundation of the Church's celebration of the Eucharist . . . how the Mass applies Christ's sacrifice to the faithful through time and space . . . why belief in the Eucharist is key to understanding God's wonderful plan of salvation and so much more Regardless of your level of knowledge about the Eucharist or the Catholic Faith, you will come away from The Biblical Basis for the Eucharist with a greater appreciation for the sacrifice of the Mass and a deeper relationship with our Eucharistic Lord.

This book was released on 2016-10-25 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the particular object of this Essay is limited to 8 consideration of the Eucharist in its sacrificial character, it is not my intention to enter with any detailed proof into the question of the Real Presence and Transubstantiation. These doctrines are undoubtedly 8 necessary basis to that of the Sacrifice, but since they have been treated of with great erudition and copiousness in many English works of controversy, to them, being easily accessible, I beg to refer those of my readers who require a complete exposition of that part of the subject. It will be sufficient for my present purpose to adduce S. Paul in proof that the real Body and Blood of Christ were made present by virtue of the words Qf our Lord. He declares that the bread which he broke was 8 'partaking of the Body of the Lord,' and the chalice 8 'communion of the Blood of Christ' (1 Cor. x.16); also, that those who partook unworthily of that bread. and that chalice were 'guilty of the Body and Blood of the Lord,' and did not' discern the Body of the Lord' (1 Cor. xi. 27-9). He says, moreover, that communicants, although numerically 'many,' become 'one bread----one body' by 'partaking of the Body of the Lord' (1 Cor. x. 17). The whole point of S. Paul's argument would be utterly lost, his parallel unmeaning, and his denunciation aimless, if the real Body and Blood of Christ were not in the Eucharist. How could anyone be justly punished by sickness and death, therefore there are many infirm and weak among you, and many sleep' (1 Cor. xi. 20)-for not discerning an absent Body? How could men be 'guilty of the Body and Blood of Christ,' if the figure alone of Christ was there, and if that figure was only bread? How also can anyone be truly described as partaking of the Body and Blood of the Lord, through the reception of the consecrated bread and consecrated chalice, if that bread which 'is broken,' and that chalice so communicated, conveys no Body and no Blood of Christ? The Apostle was inspired, erudite, and not a mocking sophist; and yet, if the Protestant explanation be true, he could not, if he had tried, have used language more calculated to mislead.
