Book A Veteran s Guide to Right Living

Download or read book A Veteran s Guide to Right Living written by Airman Derek Seeney and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-11-03 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A VeteranaEUR(tm)s Guide to Right Living: Saving Our Military Lives through The Word is a book about my journey, which started with the United States Navy and integrated into a life filled with drug addiction, posttraumatic stress disorder, and being homeless on the streets of Baltimore City, sleeping in abandoned buildings and panhandling for small change. During this time, my nephew, Private Clifford Williams, who recently joined the United States Army Infantry Division, was killed in front of his home while holding his newborn baby in his arms. During this time, Clifford was only on fifteen-day leave from the Afghanistan war on terrorism. If I had put my trust and faith in the Lord while serving my country, maybe I would not have gone through as much turmoil, self-doubt, and postmilitary syndrome upon exiting the navy. I also may have been able to witness to Clifford about Jesus Christ, which would have made a difference in the ending of his life. Only the Lord knows. This book makes a great gift and must-have reading study guide to accompany anyone who has family members heading into the armed forces, already serving an enlistment in the military, or whoaEUR(tm)s ready to give their heart and mind to the Lord! May all our family members and fellow brothers and sisters in Christ return home from service and may all those who havenaEUR(tm)t accepted the Lord Jesus Christ into their life do so now with a clean and pure heart. Many thanks to God, BaltimoreaEUR(tm)s Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center veteransaEUR(tm) mental health program, and the Wounded Warrior Project.

Book excerpt: You SERVED. You DESERVE. Brian Reese was good at masking his PTSD, bipolar disorder, depression, and anxiety. He even told himself he did not "deserve" benefits, which he later discovered was complete bullshit. As an air force officer deployed to Afghanistan, he embodied the motto of "service before self." Unfortunately, like many veterans, his service came at his own expense, and abusing alcohol and drugs to cope with mental health issues nearly ended his life. But by the grace of God and the power of pure vulnerability, Brian began a transformational journey of overcoming social stigmas and persevering through adversity. This journey has become a global movement of Veterans Helping Veterans Worldwide(TM). In You Deserve It, Brian provides veterans with a step-by-step blueprint to help them obtain virtually unknown federal and state benefits. With years of personal experience and more than ten thousand hours devoted to helping veterans get the benefits they're entitled to, Brian provides readers with the unparalleled insight and expertise that forms the foundation of his SEM Method. Whether you served thirty days or thirty years, this book will educate and inspire you to reap the rewards for your honorable service to our country.

Book Veterans Resource and Transition Guide

Download or read book Veterans Resource and Transition Guide written by John Heintzelman and published by . This book was released on 2021-03-26 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. John Heintzelman served in the military from 1992 till 2015. He served as an Airborne Infantry Senior NCO for over 22 years with numerous awards and decorations to include the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. After over 22 years he decided to pursue his doctorate in Psychology with an emphasis on PTSD and TBI. During this journey he discovered through his own experiences, injuries, studies, research, and helping other people that there were so many other factors, challenges and obstacles that affect veterans and their reintegration back to civilian life. Although each of these factors, challenges, and obstacles are usually individualistic based on the veteran's experiences and abilities to adjust to their completely new lifestyle, there still are common trends that show issues that need to be addressed both individually and socially in the veteran reintegration process and/or systems. John wants to give back to his fellow veterans and educate the public on the challenges that veterans face daily as they transition back in their new civilian lives. His intention for this guide is to provide a ONE STOP or QUICK REFERENCE source of Research, Knowledge, and Resources for veterans to easily reference in the effort to help educate veterans on the issues, challenges, and process of transitioning out of the military, what to do once they get out, develop a plan, and provide resources to help make life a little easier during and after that experience. Additional information has been added for survivors benefits to help surviving widows and a military 101 class to help educate the civilian workforce on military culture and lifestyle. Additional intent of this guide is to make it a living document by taking input from readers and providers on information and resources, providing annual updates to veterans on the ever-changing and developing process of transitioning and resources. Book Martial Culture in the Lifeways of US Servicemembers and Veterans

Download or read book Martial Culture in the Lifeways of US Servicemembers and Veterans written by Nathan J. Hogan and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-02-13 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book develops a new concept—“martial culture”—with which to problematize and reframe thinking surrounding the lifeways of US servicemembers, by exploring the values, beliefs, norms, and rituals they are exposed to and practice during military service. By reuniting the two concepts of servicemember and veteran into one overarching cultural model, the author shows how the concept of martial culture can be used to acknowledge the unbroken, holistic, multidimensional life cycle of an individual. Adopting a comparative mythological approach and drawing upon Roman, Navajo, Hindu, Norse, and Japanese myths that speak to the lived experiences of servicemembers, veterans, and their families, it weaves together ancient voices and contemporary servicemember experiential existences to offer new insight into the psychological experience of servicemembers. It will be of strong interest to psychologists who seek to develop their treatment of veterans by understanding the unique lifeway of service without judgement and offering a balanced, integrated spiritual connection, while pushing back against both inaccurate assumptions of martial lifeways and the influences of industrialized secular approaches to service. It will also appeal to those within the fields of military sociology and psychology.

Book A Veteran s Guide to Transition

Download or read book A Veteran s Guide to Transition written by Thomas Braden and published by . This book was released on 2021-03-16 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written by a veteran for other veterans, to assist in the transition from Active Duty. It specifically addresses the timeline, requirements and challenges one must overcome in order to gain a position in the federal civil service, or "GS" Government Service. This book will help you to establish your own timeline and drumbeat for navigating the process. This timeline should begin prior to your separation and continue throughout your 180 day active duty waiting period (for positions within DoD) until you're hired and on-boarded. This book is dedicated to walking you through this process, step-by-step and chapter-by-chapter.Along the way, this book provides insights and information which will allow veterans to maximize their potential opportunities for employment. It tells you exactly how and when to request additional benefits (such as leave and pay) that may be available, (some only available for veterans). Upon joining the GS ranks (federal civil service), you will want to set yourself to maximize your returns under the new benefit plans which apply to the civil service; specifically, the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) and the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP). This book will insure that you have the right information when on-boarding so that you make informed decisions and (hopefully) establish your initial payroll deductions to maximize the 5% TSP matching available to you - something not previously available to you while on active duty!Throughout this book, the reader is provided with links to source documents and current information from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), USAJobs.com, the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) or other bodies; giving necessary information should current policy/procedures change, especially during COVID. Finally, this book provides an Action Checklist for the reader to follow and not miss a critical step, or inadvertently leave anything on the table. If you're even thinking of applying for jobs in the federal civil service - this book is a must-read!!
