Book Veterans Resource and Transition Guide

Download or read book Veterans Resource and Transition Guide written by John Heintzelman and published by . This book was released on 2021-03-26 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. John Heintzelman served in the military from 1992 till 2015. He served as an Airborne Infantry Senior NCO for over 22 years with numerous awards and decorations to include the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. After over 22 years he decided to pursue his doctorate in Psychology with an emphasis on PTSD and TBI. During this journey he discovered through his own experiences, injuries, studies, research, and helping other people that there were so many other factors, challenges and obstacles that affect veterans and their reintegration back to civilian life. Although each of these factors, challenges, and obstacles are usually individualistic based on the veteran's experiences and abilities to adjust to their completely new lifestyle, there still are common trends that show issues that need to be addressed both individually and socially in the veteran reintegration process and/or systems. John wants to give back to his fellow veterans and educate the public on the challenges that veterans face daily as they transition back in their new civilian lives. His intention for this guide is to provide a ONE STOP or QUICK REFERENCE source of Research, Knowledge, and Resources for veterans to easily reference in the effort to help educate veterans on the issues, challenges, and process of transitioning out of the military, what to do once they get out, develop a plan, and provide resources to help make life a little easier during and after that experience. Additional information has been added for survivors benefits to help surviving widows and a military 101 class to help educate the civilian workforce on military culture and lifestyle. Additional intent of this guide is to make it a living document by taking input from readers and providers on information and resources, providing annual updates to veterans on the ever-changing and developing process of transitioning and resources. Download or read book From hero to Zero and Back written by Steve Speakes and published by . This book was released on 2018-03-27 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written for Veterans retiring or separating from the Military. Little has prepared us for life "after we put away the uniform." It is a story borne of lessons learned from failure followed by recovery and ultimate redemption. Following 35 successful years in the Army, Steve was fired from his first civilian job. To help you in your journey, this is his story. We may feel we are alone in this transition, but over 50,000+ Veterans annually retire from the military and transition to civilian life, many of whom will struggle in commercial management positions. A common concern is we lack the needed awareness and skills to be successful in what is for us a strange new world. To help you in your journey, Steve reflects on his seven years as a civilian businessman and compares the two environments to share lessons learned. After describing his release from his first civilian job, Steve begins a thoughtful assessment of how to become more successful moving forward. He believes that while Servicemembers have much to provide, they also have much to learn before they can parlay their time in uniform into successful civilian careers. Using vignettes and his personal experiences the author builds a rich lore of common sense coaching to guide the prospective former military leader through the thicket of complexity obscuring and complicating the transition. Steve believes the key to strong civilian careers begins by studying how to interact, communicate, and relate to new civilian counterparts. While the author is primarily focused on speaking to Veterans, civilian leaders also have much to learn from this story. They will gain valuable insights to assist transitioning Veterans by learning both the vulnerabilities and needs of potential new Veteran associates. As Americans we can all learn from this candid story of initial failure followed by thoughtful self-examination leading to ultimate success in transitioning to a new way of life. Join the quest!

Book Military Past Civilian Present

Download or read book Military Past Civilian Present written by Paul Taylor and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-17 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited book presents a synthesis of current international knowledge on the topic of military veteran transition to civilian life. Understanding the transition of individuals from military institutions to civilian life is of great importance. The essential elements of transition support are currently widely debated in order to assess current practice and potential shortcomings in the intention to improve health, welfare and social outcomes for military veterans. This text links original research and critical commentary to public policy and practice in the area of veteran transition. Doing so through a collection of international perspectives assists in locating continuity and difference between strategies, agendas and the realities of what is actually known of the veteran’s experience. Chapters in this text examine the subject of transition along lines of enquiry that focus in on themes such as social justice, veteran identity and developments in transition agendas. Globally, many veterans face complex social issues such as low income, barriers to employment, and problems of health and welfare. Chapters take stock of the real-world issues affecting veterans and at the same time casts a critical eye over the limitations in accessing, or denial of access to opportunities, support and remedy. The veteran identity is an important dimension of enquiry here. This book looks at the relational factors between the veteran and the public, the creation of a master status and the challenges faced by veterans in transitioning into a cultural context that is saturated with imagery of what a veteran ‘is’. Chapters also seek to pose recommendations as to how the policy and practice agenda that surrounds veterans and the bridging of the gap between military and civilian life may be developed. Here authors point towards the value of knowledge, research and analysis that is underpinned by participatory strategies with veterans themselves. For example, seeking to establish lines of enquiry that value the voice of veterans as an ongoing and iterative dimension of developing understanding.

Book A Veteran s Guide to Right Living

Download or read book A Veteran s Guide to Right Living written by Airman Derek Seeney and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-11-03 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A VeteranaEUR(tm)s Guide to Right Living: Saving Our Military Lives through The Word is a book about my journey, which started with the United States Navy and integrated into a life filled with drug addiction, posttraumatic stress disorder, and being homeless on the streets of Baltimore City, sleeping in abandoned buildings and panhandling for small change. During this time, my nephew, Private Clifford Williams, who recently joined the United States Army Infantry Division, was killed in front of his home while holding his newborn baby in his arms. During this time, Clifford was only on fifteen-day leave from the Afghanistan war on terrorism. If I had put my trust and faith in the Lord while serving my country, maybe I would not have gone through as much turmoil, self-doubt, and postmilitary syndrome upon exiting the navy. I also may have been able to witness to Clifford about Jesus Christ, which would have made a difference in the ending of his life. Only the Lord knows. This book makes a great gift and must-have reading study guide to accompany anyone who has family members heading into the armed forces, already serving an enlistment in the military, or whoaEUR(tm)s ready to give their heart and mind to the Lord! May all our family members and fellow brothers and sisters in Christ return home from service and may all those who havenaEUR(tm)t accepted the Lord Jesus Christ into their life do so now with a clean and pure heart. Many thanks to God, BaltimoreaEUR(tm)s Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center veteransaEUR(tm) mental health program, and the Wounded Warrior Project.
